2023.06.01 09:10 benderew Windows game performance not as good as I was expecting on Windows 10. Tips to improve performance?
I'm running the 512gb model and the only hardware changes I have done is installing a 2tb ssd into the system therefore I dual boot both steam os and windows 10. I have also debloated 10 using one of those programs to remove all the unnecessary system apps.
I have windows installed mainly so I can play some games with mods notably skyrim, fallout etc but I must say the overall performance on windows compared to steam os has been lower than I expected.
I understand that game performance will vary depending on the game that's played therefore since windows takes more resources to run I can understand some performance issues.
What I'm wondering is if there are any manual tweaks I can make within windows 10 in order to improve the overall system performance? As this is my first time running Windows on a device that's not a regular laptop/desktop, I'm curious to hear if anyones got any performance tips.

Backstory:
Last week I was a player in my friends game. My character, a gnome monk, only 3 feet tall has some skills. He has a Cartography kit and in his background, is exceptionally good at writing out legal binding contracts.
When I made the character, I wasn't so focused on his monk abilities (I had zero concern for min maxing) and instead I wanted to focus on his out of combat abilities.
Needless to say. My first few sessions were great. I made written contracts between players for various things. I sought after upscale paper and ink and quill pens. The players loved it.
But last weeks session. That is where NOODLES really shined.
We encountered a Labyrinth. And NOODLES was adamant he could map out the place. Even with its ever changing design. He mapped out 1 pathhad to start over, 2, 3 and even 4 times. And in the end, overlapped the maps found a pattern to the changes and we made our way in and out.
This session is what NOODLES had been waiting 1.5 years to accomplish. And accomplish it he did.
So that brings me to my question.
If a player wants their character to learn a new skill, say, Fishing, or playing a new instrument, or new language, or Cartography or really anything that isn't combat related.
How do you allow your players to do this?
What do you allow or do you not allow your players character to learn?
I'm curious to know how you handled it and how it was well received. And what your players requested in your games.
I'm coming up with a new homebrew campaign in a few weeks and just seeking new advice and information to prepare myself.

Just retired my Blinkblade at level 6. I'm trying to pick between the Fist and Kelp classes for my next character but not sure which to choose. They each look very fun in there own way, and I just wanted to hear people's thoughts on their experience playing these two classes to help me choose.
Currently my party consist of a Boneshaper, Banner Spear, and Geminate. The boneshaper will probably retire soon though and choose the Trap class. The others will retire in the next 5 sessions too but they're not sure what they're going to choose. Would either class work better with the current/future party setup?

2023.06.01 08:12 MaciSkeleton When to Release a Baby Bird
My daughter found a nest of baby birds. All the babies had been torn up, except for one. She decided to take care of it. When she initially found the bird, it had few feathers and mostly quills. We discovered that some towels and a small space heater could keep the baby warm, and water mixed with dry dog food could be fed to it. I also read that spraying water on the feathers is beneficial, so we did that. The bird now semi flys, feeds, drinks, and knows how to bathe itself. We practiced perching by allowing the bird to sit on our fingers. It has a lot of feathers, but is still missing some. When can it be released back into the wild? The bird knows we are the feeders and knows our voices, but I don't think it is bonded to us. It will sit on our fingers, but it does take a little coaxing to get the bird on.
