2023.06.01 18:57 Drimify Online travel competitions: fuel your audience’s appetite for adventure

There are a lot of beautiful places in the world, and while the big hitters like the Pyramids of Egypt, Pompeii, and Machu Picchu might dominate a lot of people’s bucket lists for places to travel to, travellers and holiday makers love a hidden gem. Part of the fun of going on holiday is throwing out the guidebook and adopting the “when in Rome” approach. While there are still plenty of fans of sitting by the hotel pool in a tropical climate, the fundamental reason most people go to the effort of travelling is for discovery.
This is one of the key motivations gamification taps into, so whether you’re a tourism operator, an airline, a hotel, or a local body charged with boosting tourism in your area, creating an online contest or competition could be just the marketing game to grow your social media community, drive traffic to your strategic pages, or even as a catalyst to help people learn more about your destination or attraction. Everyone wants to be a winner, and short of the lottery jackpot, there are few better prizes than a paid-for holiday, or even a luxury experience added on to your stay.

Discovery and curiosity: keys to gamification

Holidays and travel are universally enjoyed and adored. Everyone loves going on holiday, escaping from the responsibilities of day-to-day life, getting to an exotic climate, discovering new cultures, and seeing things they might only see once in their entire lives. When you book a big holiday, or even a city break, it’s most likely planned as being the highlight of your year. It’s an opportunity to go all in and live your best life in every possible aspect.
An online travel competition is a great way to tap into that universal enthusiasm to achieve a variety of marketing purposes. There are various types of online competitions, but fundamentally, it’s an event a business will run where an attractive prize lures people in and encourages them to enter and follow any specific calls to action (CTAs). It’ll run for a specific duration with a hard deadline, and either be a game of chance, like in a prize giveaway, or based on some skill or ability, like with a Photo Contest or some kind of Quiz.

Tap into the playful nature of travellers and tourists

The exact type of online competition you could create depends on a number of factors, such as:
Whether you’re encouraging people to participate in your contest for a chance at free flights or an expenses paid trip, or even just encouraging visitors to your location to discover what you have to offer with a luxury experience giveaway, people looking to travel, particularly those that are already on their trip, will be at their most adventurous and curious, so be more open than normal to take chances to get the most out of their experience. This is why different types of competitions can be so effective in this area.

How to create contests as travel competitions

We’ll run through a few examples of travel competitions and consider these starting points for your own online travel contests and that can easily be customised to whatever contest ideas you can dream up.
Here are a few examples that can serve as starting points or ideas for your own online travel contests. They can easily be adapted and customised to to whatever contest ideas you can dream up.

1. An instant win contest for mass appeal and participation

You take a Scratch Card, Wheel of Fortune, or a Slot Machine game to create a highly visual instant win experience. Customising the graphics, the copy, and configure the prize distribution (if say, you had smaller prizes and one grand prize) to your exact needs, then you have a professionally made instant win contest to share across social media and in your email newsletters.
Because it’s an instant win game, and only involves the push of a button, running a cursor over the screen, or spinning a virtual wheel, there’s no barrier to entry. If it’s a highly attractive prize, like say, a trip, there’s a huge incentive for people to take part, so with the appropriate marketing support, this could spread far and wide and generate a lot of entries..
You can customise the contact screen, where you can ask for personal information and encourage people to opt-in to your newsletter. You can also include videos or extra copy to get more of your messaging into this easy to play contest, and include any relevant CTAs on the end screen.

2. A Photo Contest or Video Contest for user-generated content

A Photo and Video Contests both work by asking users to submit videos or photos, and when customising your competition, you set the parameters or the brief for what sort of media they should submit. For example, let’s say you’re a local body promoting a new hiking trail – you could create a photo contest encouraging users to take pictures on the new hiking trail, with a prize like a skydiving experience or a swimming with sharks experience, or even a romantic meal for 2 serving as the motivation for people to create the best possible compositions they’re able to.
You then validate a shortlist of the best entries, and put out a subsequent sort of voting gallery, and invite your audience across your websites, social media, and your newsletters to vote for the best entries.
Because every member of your target audience has, at the least, a modern smartphone capable of taking high quality video, and in most cases even video editing capabilities, this is a highly sophisticated contest that can carry mass appeal. Because everyone is very camera happy on holiday anyway, there’s an element of social cache to entering such a competition. The photos or videos people submit can also be used to promote the contest on social media, and when it’s good, be used in subsequent marketing campaigns too.

3. A themed Quiz to reward holiday makers who embrace the local cultures

Again, discovery is a huge motivator that gamification capitalises on. It’s also a huge motivator in visiting different locations on holiday. By customising a Quiz -being one of the simplest and most popular games- you can test and educate a tourist’s knowledge of a region, and reward the best performer with a prize, or enter participants into a prize giveaway.
This is probably the most versatile mechanism and could be used in any number of ways. You could construct questions using audio or video, have answers be multiple choice, open, or ordered, and make them as long, and as difficult (or as short, and as easy) as you like. You could use the Quiz format to also gently educate participants on a particular destination or culture, as well invite them to opt-in to your marketing newsletter. This kind of contest works just as well for targeting people who want to win a holiday as it does for people who are already on a trip.
For example, let’s say you’re a marketer on the tourism board for a tourist destination. You could create a Quiz featuring pictures of local landmarks that they need to identify, as well as questions about the local culture, to test what tourists have learned about the local area. You could distribute the competition via social media, but also have it accessible via QR codes featured in partner hotels lobbies, and in business premises popular with tourists.
The possibilities are endless. Experiment with gamifiaction and see what works best for you!

2023.06.01 18:57 Responsible_Web_7578 I F25 am thinking about leaving my fiancé M26

I F25 and my fiancé M25 have been together for 4 years and we have known each other for 6. We have a baby together. We got into an argument last night and now idk what to do.
To sum up the argument, it was basically based on miscommunication regarding money, and issues with how he never cooks and puts 100% of the weight on me. We could have had a calm conversation about this but he blew it way out of proportion and now I’m really second guessing everything.
The argument was heated from the start on his end. His voice was raised and he wouldn’t allow me to disengage or leave the situation despite me telling him i needed space. I had anxiety and felt like it wasn’t going to be a productive conversation at all. He was 100% blaming me for everything. He literally blocked me from leaving.
Next he accused me of thinking that he was below me because of my tone of voice, attitude, and possible the issues he has with me which is not true. At the same time he talks to me however he wants. He said that i always have an attitude which is also not true. We barely argue these days.
Lastly after accusing me of thinking that he’s beneath me and how he doesn’t like my tone of voice, he then said that he’s a man and I’m woman. I asked him “are you threatening me?” And of course he didn’t answer. I got a feeling that he was insinuating that he was going to hurt me one day over how I talk to him. Yes I had an attitude naturally but who wouldn’t?? And I wasn’t talking to him any kind of way either. Maybe with a tone he didn’t like but that’s it. The argument ended with him stonewalling me and nothing got resolved.
I’m hurt over what transpired. I’m also over it at this point as it’s not the first time something like this has happened. We are supposed to get married soon but I honestly lost interest. I’m not really interested in trying to talk to him about his behavior towards me either because it’ll most likely fall on deaf ears.
He’s acting like he’s absolutely perfect and did not play a part in this at all. Everything is always my fault. He also feels that it’s ok to threaten me which I can’t get over.
I’m literally fantasizing about telling him that I’m moving out later on today. He seems to think I’m weak which is ironically how he feels that I see him. The problem is that if I do leave, I won’t be able to see my baby everyday anymore which absolutely kills me. obviously we’ll have shared custody. I really don’t want to make a life altering decision but I don’t know what else to do. I’m just sick of this.
TLDR: My fiancé M26 and I F25 got into a heated argument that he wouldn’t allow me to leave from which resulted in him threatening me. Now I want to leave but the thought of not seeing my baby everyday anymore kills me.

2023.06.01 18:57 lilkimchee88 PQQ and anxiety meds (buspar) Anyone used both?

I take 15-25mg buspabuspirone a day for anxiety/OCD. 35F.
I asked my doctor and my psychiatrist about PQQ and neither knew anything about it. As I expected since this was the case, they said it’s better not to try and it doesn’t sound like they plan to look any further into it.
Frankly, I’m not sure I even understand PQQ: is it a nootropic? Are those contradicted with anxiety meds?
Has anyone used PQQ alongside mental health meds? I’ll obviously listen to the professionals, but I knew this sub would have way more info about PQQ that I could maybe pass along.

Basic rules/ preferences:
My preferences:
I tend to lean towards stories with an element of romance, but at the same time I don't like stories that focus solely on a cliché lovey dovey relationship. I want hardships, I want problems, I want arguments. Im a huge sucker for angsty roleplays, and those that have a lot of action. In terms of smut, I prefer to withhold it until the sexual tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife, and even then I prefer not going too far into the smut side. A 'gloss over' would be ideal, or simply sticking to the emotions coming from the smut rather than just writing paragraphs about the sex.
Plots:
None that I'm interested in doing at the moment from my own list, but I'm willing to work with my partner to make a plot that suits us both! Just no high school plots unless it's something really good, because those get on my nerves
Where to reach me:
I'd prefer it if you messaged me over on discord, it's linked on my profile

Hey there stranger. Let me tell you a lil about myself. I was born in Egypt but moved to the UK when I was 16 with my father’s family for School and University. I’m tall, I have 3 tattoos I’ve been boxing for almost 2 decades now and I lift weights. I’m a little bit introverted but do have some extroverted tendencies from time to time. I like to read fiction and non-fiction, poetry is among the things I love to write and I’m also really into anime and gaming (PC, PS5 and Switch). I work full-time (from home) and I’m doing a masters on the side, it gets lonely sometimes having such a busy schedule but I always make time for myself and the people close to me. 2023.06.01 18:56 nerbesss Denmark Bilateral Confirmation

After lots of research and help from subs like this I am planning on using the US/Denmark Bilateral to extend a Europe trip this fall with my family. (We are US citizens) I emailed with the Danish Embassy and got a prompt response to several questions I had, I'll list them here: (responses in bold)
If your office does have any information about this, please let me know. Here is my itinerary that I am curious about: Fly into Copenhagen, spend one week in Denmark. Spend the remaining 90/180 time in other Schengen countries. Return to Denmark for another 30 days. My questions are: Does beginning the journey in Denmark make any difference when staying the "extra" time in Denmark at the end of our trip? When flying out of Denmark at the end of our trip, would having a connection in Iceland be a problem? (I am wondering if we would go through any customs control while in Reykjavík, and if so would they understand or think that we overstayed our Schengen zone time?)
It is best to think of the bilateral agreement (additional 90 days stay in Denmark) and Schengen visa free stay (90 days within 180 period in Schengen) as not mutually exclusive. In the case of the trip you have outlined below, the first entry and stay in Denmark counts towards both the Schengen visa free stay and the additional days stay in the bilateral agreement. This is because your first country of stay is Denmark instead of another Schengen country. So you will need to deduct the one week in Denmark from the 90 days stay in Schengen. You will need to reserve one Schengen visa-free day from the 90 days for the transit in Iceland. The bilateral agreement is well known and you have resources (the link you referenced) to support your stay. However, the date of entry stamp and date of exit stamp will appear as though you stayed over 90 days. As the traveller, it will be your responsibility to keep documents (e.g. train, bus, flight tickets.) to demonstrate which days you were in Denmark and other Schengen countries. To keep your easier to document, you may reserve the entire 90 days stay in Denmark via bilateral agreement at the end of the 90 days of visa free stay in other Schengen countries and may consider returning to the US directly from Denmark.
We are slowly booking and planning the details, but the last few days I have had a looming feeling that I should double check to make sure I am reading/understanding correctly to avoid showing up at the Copenhagen airport and getting fined or banned.
Here is our Itinerary: UK / Sept 6 - 19
Location Schengen Days
Copenhagen / August 21 - 27 6 days Landing 13:20pm on the 21st
Bremen / August 27 - 30 3
Haarlem / August 30 - Sept 6 7
UK Fly out at 10:00
Alps 28 Fly into Milan at 17:00
Italy 44
Denmark Finish out the trip until our one way flight back home Dec.13
Does everything check out here? My calculations are that we will have 88 Schengen days before our ending in Denmark, leaving a few wiggle room days in case our flight from Italy goes wrong or something.

Thanks!

First 300 yd drive w/my new driver (TSR2)
As my wife tries, but just doesn't appreciate things the way this community does...thank you for letting me share here.
I played in a 4-Ball tourney earlier this week with a buddy and we managed to come in 3rd in our group (net scores) and qualify for the final event later this summer. He's the much better golfer (HI 4.6 vs my 16.2) between us, but I was happy to carry my weight - especially on the front 9 - and get us some red numbers. After getting a bit off track between holes 9 and 15, I put the wheels back on for 16, 17, and 18. This was my drive on 17, with about a 45 foot drop from tee to fairway. Thank you Titleist.
After a 10+ year layoff and getting back to the game last June, it's been a long process of cleaning off the rust, working, cleaning off more rust, working, and not really seeing evidence pointing to improvement. The front 9 finally gave me a sign, as I shot a solid 40 that included 2 3-putts and a dbl on 9; the back 9 showed there's still plenty of work to do - 48 that included 2 trips and a dbl.

2023.06.01 18:56 ExcitingLandscape What tips do you have to maintain balance as a Dad alongside career/health & fitness/hobbies/social life??

3 months into dad life with a newborn and I'm going crazy trying to balance being a parent and being my own person. I know that my LO is still so young to jump to conclusions and trust in the cliche advice of "things will get better." But I can see how my entire life can be wrapped up in being a parent while letting health, career, hobbies, and social life fall to the wayside.
Prior to dad life I considered myself a pretty well rounded person. I was a morning person that'd wake up at 5am then worked out at 6am, walked the dog at 7, made breakfast and got ready for work by 930am. I also play golf with friends and enjoy photography. My wife and I enjoy going on date nights and traveling. I'm totally aware that it is selfish to maintain this level of activity with a child and some things have to take a backseat for now and it'll be journey.
Dads who manage to balance parenthood/careehealth/hobbies/social life what tips do you have to work up to that?

2023.06.01 18:56 P-Duck Any way to increase D-Pad diagonal sensitivity?

I know many controllers have d-pads that hit the diagonals too easily, and there are mods for that (like applying tape to the contacts). But there are also controllers with the opposite problem, where you have to dig super deep into the diagonals to get them to register. Playing (for example) fighting games with them is inconsistent, and fatiguing.
Is there any way to make diagonals register MORE easily through hardware mods or software?

My step daughter is the 14 year old in question. Her Bio mom has not taken her to a specialist since she was 9, dad recently was able to get the judge to grant 50/50 on having access to all records. (Too long of a backstory to go into and not the right place.) Mom has not educated her daughter on her medical diagnosis of Lipomyelomeningocele. I was the one to tell her what her Dx is. Anyway. We would like to know her limitations such as to exercise? Is she able to create an exercise routine and start lifting weights to gain strength? Also, are there specific exercises she can do to help herself? She was never allowed to lift, play sports, never received PT or anything to help her condition. She is hunched over with bad posture. We would like some advice. Thanks

2023.06.01 18:56 Necessary-Finish8435 Drinking problem

Me (29 F) and my so (33 M) had been together for 4+ years now. We went on and off to the point i cant no longer save money for my daily needs. For context ; we both love to drink. But i have a pretty good self control for alcohol. Yet he has a very bad self control for alcohol. He is a very loving person when he’s sober but not when he isn’t. I am very aware that the problem is in the alcohol intake. But do you guys think its possible for him to change? And for another context ; how can i deal with the death of his father 3 years+ ago? Everytime we get into argument he will always mention “his situation” and unblocked me whenever he feels my opinion is unnecessary. I love him and i just want to be there when he needed me the most, but i think he is taking me for granted. But somehow i cant leave him because i was there when he was in his lowest point and i just cant leave him. I cant just leave him like that. Please i need some enlightment.

Good morning gang and soccer is a funny sport, eh?
There are a lot of new soccer followers because of LAFC, and one thing new soccer fans struggle with is the sport does not go in a linear fashion like most American sports do. It's not just regular season playoffs championship every year; there are multiple competitions going on at once, with some more important than others. Throw in the idea of the two-leg format, and their heads really start to spin. I try to educate new fans as best I can, but it's understandable their confusion given their whole sports-following lives have gone in a straightforward fashion.
Cue last night's game and result as being a big hurdle for a new soccer fan to understand. It's a championship... but not the same one we won back in November. Is it more important than MLS Cup? Most of us would say yes... but some would say no. What was that game then against the Galaxy the other week. Well....
We lost 2-1. BUT... most of us aren't sad about it. We played pretty poorly, and yet the damage is very minimal at the end of the day. Leon began the match like we used to do under Bob - press the hell in the first 20 minutes. And like we used to do under Bob, they wore themselves out by the time the second half came around. So, even though the first half was brutal, I knew we'd have a chance in the second given how 2 Fast 2 Furious Leon began things.
We definitely looked better and more confident in the second half. I went from thinking we could win at the start of the game to just wanting us to minimize the damage and get back home. And we did just that and even snuck in a late goal in the 96th minute during a four minute stoppage time. That was wayyyy better than I expected us to finish.
Almost all credit goes to Johnny Mac, who kept us from losing 5-1. Our backline was constantly getting outrunned and outgunned, but J.Mac was there to save our asses. At this point, he won us MLS Cup and gave us a chance to win CCL on Sunday; he is our guy even when Max gets back. I dare say, he is playing even better this year than Max did last year.
Runner-up MOTM for us was Palacios, who had some timely and patient defensive moves that also helped stopped the beating. Without those two guys playing at a high level, Sunday turns into an exhibition game.
What went wrong? The tl;dr version is I think we approached this game like we were taking on another MLS team. But Leon was faster than anything we have faced this year. The talent gap between Liga MX and your average MLS team was on full display last night. I'm sure their month off helped them with the fresh legs, but my god was it hard to watch us backpedal through so much of the match.
The dark arts were also on display, and I was glad to see us perform them right back at Leon once our guys realized we weren't playing some dinky, low budget MLS side. We were lucky to avoid a Liga MX club on the road to this final, but you could tell our guys hadn't been tested with this level of a club like we had been in 2020.
So, we end it with a 2-1 loss but it somehow feels like a win. When you try to explain this to new soccer fans, it makes their heads spin. But that's what we got. A loss that feels like a win. Only down one goal and going back home to finish the job. Our CCL trophy hopes remain very much alive in a game where it could have brutally ended. And that, to me, is a win.
Welcome to the party new fans! See you all back here Monday morning.

The Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time: #3 Joni Mitchell-Blue (1971)
#3 Joni Mitchell-Blue
Let me preface this by saying I love Joni Mitchell. She's one of the greatest female artists of all time. I have loved every album I listened to for the list. However, this album is not #3 albums of all time. I don’t think it’s her best album that appeared on the list. I preferred the sound of The Hissing Of Summer Lawns, Court And Spark, and Hejira to this album. That’s not saying I don’t love this album I do! This one is more rooted in her folk rock beginnings. The others explore her songwriting talents by incorporating other genres. Having said that this is a glorious album, it is stark and solemn. It is a statement of an artist breaking free, a must listen for every music fan.
The album opens with “All I Want” a song that has Joni feeling all the emotions hurt, love, anger. It is her laying it all out there. The song is supposedly about then bf James Taylor who actually plays guitar on the song. “My Old Man” is about her relationship with Graham Nash. Damn Joni was really the 60’s version of Taylor Swift without the toxic fanbase. This is a sweet somber tune that kinda reminds of CSN’s “Our House” , a song written by Graham Nash. This is just a sweet piano ballad with Joni’s incredible voice shining through. “Little Green” is a sad song inspired by Joni’s decision to give up her daughter for adoption. You can feel the pain and sadness throughout this song. Joni did reunite with her daughter in 1997 so this sad story does have a happy ending . “Carey” is about a period in time where Joni lived in a cave dwelling hippie community in the Greece Islands with Cary Raditz. There’s some hippie hopefulness found in the song which makes it stand out from the other solemn songs on the album. “Blue” is another song about her brief relationship with James Taylor. There is still calmness in this piano based ballad. There are some allusions to drug addiction laced into the lyrics as well. “California” is about her journey back home to California. Joni is a masterful songwriter who can compose so many emotions in her songs. You can hear joy and sadness in her voice on this song which is a rare talent. It was the inspiration for Led Zeppelin's “Going To California”. “This Flight Tonight” is about her regrets about leaving her lover on a flight and she wishes she could return. Rock band Nazareth does a great cover of this song that Nancy Wilson of Heart claims to have inspired their song “Barracuda” strange how that works, one song written by a folk singer being the inspiration to one of the most kick ass riffs of all time. Is “River” the saddest Christmas song ever? The medley is based on Jingle Bells and it does start describing people getting ready for the holiday. It is filled with sadness and the urge to escape the craziness that is all around us. Another heartbreaking song from this album. We all wish we had a river that we could skate away on. “A Case Of You” is another song inspired by her love life. It's either about James Taylor or Leonard Cohen. It is an ode to inescapable love done so beautifully. The album closes with the beautiful piano ballad of “The Last Time I Saw Richard” as she describes her delusions of romance as she sings about a former lover finding happiness that she could never achieve with him. It is a chilling cold way to end the album.
I mean this is just a beautiful piece of art that deserves the acclaim it receives. Joni is one of the great artists of our time so influential to so many artists. Put this one on your bucket list and start a Joni Mitchell deep dive you will not be disappointed.
