2023.06.04 06:46 RhiaKyrie Clerk with no OIC/PM - Carry mail? Make Schedule? Crisis? Many questions, and a useless union rep.
Hey all, another question- a few really. Buckle up, this one is gonna be big.
So, to clarify some prior posts, I work in a level 18 office in SoCal (not clarifying further for plausible deniability anonymity reasons). Four routes, three PTF clerks (FTF position in arbritration), and a LOT of problems. Those being, we only have two RCA's, one is on medical and fighting labor to even get treatment while the other is 6-days acting regular on an overburdened (~49hweek K route + DACA-5 every week) route.
So, a good few things: I was an RCA before, and thus have the training to run routes. I've done so for our Auxi before, and have not been appropriately paid for the mileage- but am not sure if it's viable for eTravel as it's personal vehicle delivery. At this point, I'm wondering if I'm even allowed to deliver routes, not just express- I've not gotten a straight answer when asking more directly.
My Postmaster is currently out on medical, he had a massive surgery and has been out for a good few months as is. We had an OIC come from, way away, and was doing genuinely fantastic work and fixing things that were long standing issues. Unfortunately, HIS home office practically imploded for something only a month in, his MPOO pulled him back to his district, to my knowledge. As a result- it's just us clerks, and the occasional nearby postmaster coming in for reports we don't have access too. We're doing CSAW, DCV, DMS, things that I'm fairly sure we're good to do, but some other ones- Scheduling, even giving instructions (instructing to pass instruction to carriers or other employees), feels like it's way sketch.
Yesterday we had a full route vacant due to callout- I called eight neighboring offices near and far, but with Saturday being a popular K-Day, there's jack squat available to come and cover. I'm there at like 2:30 AM on another postmaster's suggestion due to having a heavy and unexpected late UPS/Amazon drop, and it's enough it'll impact carrier time if trying to do my normal arrival times. (Note: All other clerks are otherwise indisposed on saturdays, I fly a solo ship and was told there MAY be relief later in the day if a nearby clerk in a single HWY route office gets done.) So, crap's hitting the fan, there's a whole route just fusterclucked, another one with a fairly fresh RCA that's gonna get in past 1800 as is. Eventually, I pull a big trigger- I contact District on another Postmaster's reccomendation (unsure why they didn't do it themselves, since I'm a PTF clerk...). I've never seen both my personal phone and hotline blow up so fast. Every postmaster nearby I had contacted is wondering what is going on- mind you most of them were told the details of my MIA route risking full failure to deliver- and others from farther offices immediately offering help later in the afternoon if I'm willing to case the mail (which, at this point to avoid being in a HUGE hot seat I am willing to do.) I'm already catching huge professional but passive flak from my Boss, but he's on medical, frankly should be resting- as well as the fact that he's not even hooked to the office in terms of accountability right now. The long-gone OIC is. I have postmasters telling me I made the right gut call- it was either being on the radar for requesting Aid on a level over what I usually have to (but with my hands otherwise tied), or get in trouble in one of three ways: Go into major OT (14 hr+ knowing my time on that route) and leave a lot of mail undelivered in PO Box, and fail integrity for all the PO box parcels and see if the RCA can help and get us both less overtime with the same PO box issues, or say 'not my problem' and end up on a big red flag list for failure to deliver- with me being the one that made the call to just not deal with it. Rock, meet hard place, meet blast explosives. It's already causing major friction with coworkers who hate being on anyone's radar, let alone district level management- fair enough.
How much of this am I realistically even supposed to be doing? I'm not getting paid OIC/EAS17-18 rates (technically no supervisor position here) rates, I have access to some head clerk tools and such, but by no means any supervisor, timekeeping or leave input, any of that. I just make the schedule, cover a vacant route with other RCA's as I can, and dangit if I don't do it WELL too, this being the first major issue, though one I was dreading to come inevitably given staffing issues.
What doesn't help either is that our steward is very much barely doing anything, and the actual rep is radio silent on myself and other clerks, same for the Rural rep. Glad I didn't join either of those, thank god.
Guess my questions are really: How much of this should I not be touching with a 0.5 mile delivery range pole? What calls am I on the hook for, given that I've only been verbally told what things to do, and that I'm a kinda, a standing scheduler? Was my call way too overboard, or was making sure it got done while doing a proper CYA with the call/communication a good call? Any other input would be, greatly appreciated. I just find myself anxious as hell about what's going on above my head, while still performing these duties.
Semi-related: I've also been informed though, that if I want to be put at a nearby city office to train back end OIC/Sup, I may well be offered it considering what I've been doing came to light in a big way today. Yay? Thank y'all for reading, and thanks ahead for any input. Ask any questions, I'll answer to the best of my ability.

2023.06.04 06:45 rubyphire78 Boomer in-laws don’t even know their own USA history.
It’s embarrassing to talk to my boomer parents and in-laws.
They didn’t know that Columbus was Italian and that he had murdered and pillaged his way through the Americas. They didn’t know about Jim Crow laws, Sundown towns, poll taxes, and poll tests that kept black Americans from being able to vote until the late 1960s. They didn’t know that the GI bill, after WWars, didn’t offer much of anything to black Americans who had served and prevented them from developing much of the generational wealth that was afforded to many white Americans. They didn’t know that the slave owners, in the south, actually got reparations after emancipation. They didn’t know what red-lining was. They have no idea what happened in Tulsa, OK (black Wall Street) or that NY city’s Central Park was a thriving black community called Seneca Village, or that an entire town in GA was flooded to remove the black people, or that Manhattan beach (in CA) was also a black community. They didn’t know Haiti was an island connected to the Dominican Republic (after a long and painful conversation about immigrants crossing the southern border). They didn’t know about American foreign policies in South America which has contributed to the mass exodus of people from their own countries. They are unaware of the current reproductive policies in many states in the USA. They have no idea what it takes to immigrate to the USA, today. They told me that poor people are getting paid by the government to stay home and not work (all that Covid money, apparently). They didn’t know that the second amendment was redefined in a Supreme Court case in 2008 and that is why a lot of gun laws are hard to implement today. They believe that boomers are not the responsible generation because they are not in government and we had to remind them that the average age of congress is almost 60 and that the current, and most recent former, president are boomers.
These are retired, well-educated, highly successful people and they are so ignorant about their own country’s history. I could go on and on.

2023.06.04 06:45 fragilebonesana Me 21F and boyfriend of 9 months 21M, have been arguing nearly everyday
My boyfriend and I got into a relationship right after our first date so there wasn’t much time between us getting to know each other and us dating.
We’ve argued nearly everyday for the past 9 months over the same issues. My love language is quality time and his is words of affirmation.
We seem to understand where our issues lie but I feel like the effort is very one sided and he always has some sort of excuse to justify his lack of presence.
My question is, has anyone actually faced a phase like this in their relationship and they found it manageable or does it eventually take a toll on you (emotionally and mentally) and you end up leaving?
Besides this issue, he’s actually very sweet and genuinely cares for me and understands my quirks and I do too. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated 💗

| I killed the swine king after he killed Tranchant and Engerrand. By that point Sarah and Chauncy were both 4 HP. This whole fight(Level 5 Champion Boss Fight) Wilbur stunned my characters twice maybe. I made the mistake of thinking Wilbur would fuck off once the Swine King was dead. Nope. Instead he stunlocked Chauncy and Sarah to death and there was nothing I can do. The hardest part about Darkest Dungeon for me is not getting attached to my characters, But when you pour thousands of gold into Skills, Gear, Provisions; when you play dungeon after dungeon to get those specific trinkets, it's damn well near impossible not to get attached. 2023.06.04 06:44 Sully883 Is it bad that I refuse to date due to child abuse and mistreatment from woman?
Long story short, mother physically and mentally abused me when I was a kid, was constantly having to defend myself against mostly female bullies.
Everytime I put myself out there, and I swear I did everything right, I was harshly pushed away, of which they made a joke out of.
And the last time I asked a woman I liked to coffee, instead of just leaving it as a simple no which I have zero issue with, decided to lie and say I sexually harassed her, nearly costing me my job and reputation had she not been caught in the lie by the cameras and audio in the business, as the owner and manager called her out on. I must clarify that I can handle being told NO, what I can't handle well is being treated like a monster just for posing the question.
I'm 27 about to be 28, male. Never had a girlfriend, never done the deed. Am I justified with refusing to date?

2023.06.04 06:44 stop_lying_good_god I remember that my parents took me to a child psychologist when I was about 8 years old.
I wasn't behaving well. Though, they could not tell why.
The funniest thing in the world is that the psychologist essentially pointed the finger at them. Haha.
And, they did nothing.
In fact, things got worse!
Their psychological and social needs mattered more than my own.
I'm 35 years old, and this shit they pulled still haunts me.
It took me to becoming old enough to earn some basic fucking respect from them!
They failed to provide any sort of leadership, confidence, positivity, etc. to me -- yet, now, they demand the same things from me.
I was damn-near crying the other day when a colleague told me that their dad watches an anime with them. My father only mocked me for that. These people just don't get it.
And, there's a reason for why it took so long to heal.
Spent most of my life moving around and in school.
Then, at work.
Simple.
I met someone who literally has never celebrated his birthday, yet I can tell that he is completely fine. Why?
He did not face CEN.
His parents weren't broke. They just weren't the birthday party types.
So, well, the parents focused on him instead of the birthday parties.
They didn't treat him like a chore. They genuinely tried to get to know him and explored his interests, WITH HIM.
I got birthday parties. I just didn't get parents who focused on me like a human.
When parents don't show an interest in a child's interests, intellect, and activities -- it leads them to rejecting themselves.
Our parents are supposed to be our first true, unconditional friends.
School is so fucking dangerous to us. We spend half our lives in it, only to be thrown into even more emotionally neglectful work/career.

2023.06.04 06:43 Intelligent-Pea4144 Maintain campus cleanliness Reject Yan Limon for Perelman Medical College
| In the global epidemic, the economy is shrinking, the employment rate is low, the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine hired Yan Limeng as the hospital staff, this non-racist, non-discriminatory for Asian employees to provide jobs behavior, reflects the college's fraternity, equality. But the Perelman School of Medicine in the hiring of like-minded employees, it is time to consider the maintenance of campus cleanliness as the first task, reject Yan Limeng on stage to join the medical school. https://preview.redd.it/m87grskwkx3b1.jpg?width=3508&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ef25c15cbd782989096cbb395e8516ed758a909 Academically Questionable "Scholars" Yan Limeng has a doctorate in ophthalmology, but in ophthalmology has been obscure, no attainment, the only thing that makes him famous is published on the Internet "new coronavirus man-made theory". Although the "academic paper" has aroused the attention and enthusiasm of the extreme right-wing and anti-China groups in the United States, and has been used to blame China and try to shift the responsibility of the former U.S. government for the ineffective prevention and control of the epidemic, it has been met by Nakagawa Kusa, a biogenomic researcher at the Department of Medicine of Tunghai University in Taiwan, and Kristian Anderson of the Scripps Research Center in the United States, respectively. However, they were challenged by experts and scholars such as Kristian Andersen of the Scripps Research Center and others in the New York Times, National Geographic, and other media or social media platforms, while Chinese dissident Fang Zhouzi published a direct article "Refuting the Conspiracy Theory of "New Coronavirus Man-Made"" and Columbia University virologist Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia University, even argued that Yan Limeng's paper was "political propaganda" aimed at deception. Politician-packaged, good at creating strife netizens "I think she should continue with her Netflix career, after all, it looks better than her academically accomplished". "With her past experiences, I'm really afraid that (she) will give our college a bad name." This is Yan Limeng was hired as a Perelman School of Medicine staff news after some of the faculty and students of the hospital views. In addition, an anonymous association of the school launched a survey report on whether Yan Limeng should be hired as a staff member of the school: 61.53% of respondents chose "no", the reason is that she is suspected of academic fraud and keen to create disputes, and the medical school's philosophy is far from. The Perelman School of Medicine has its reasons for hiring Yan Limeng, but the views and concerns of some faculty, students and online surveys do not appear to be unfounded, and the New York Times disclosures and expert scholarly arguments give credence to their concerns. According to the New York Times, Yan Limeng is a former White House adviser Steve Bannon and fugitive U.S. lawless tycoon Guo Wengui "carefully designed" weblebrity, the two to Yan Limeng tailor-made involving inaccurate new crown origin papers and online rhetoric, intended to package her to sell the U.S. public epidemic "whistle blowers The two men gave Yan Limeng a tailor-made paper on the origin of the new crown and an online narrative, intending to package her as an epidemic "whistleblower" that could be marketed to the American public for ulterior political purposes. University of Washington biology professors Carl Bergstrom and Kevin Bode found that Yan Limeng's papers were based on research by the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation, both of which are run by Both were founded by Guo Wengui's partner Bannon. Yan Limeng in the former U.S. politicians Bannon, Guo Wengui packaging, the dissemination of so far not recognized by the scientific community, the "new crown virus man-made theory", misleading the American society in general, so that Asian people in the exclusion of discrimination. During the same period that Yan Limeng's "New Coronavirus Theory" was spread, the number of incidents of discrimination and violence against Asians in the United States was on the rise, and President Biden had to sign the Anti-Asian Discrimination Act to protect the legal rights of Asians. In addition, Yan Limeng in order to obtain greater benefits, directly to the webcast explosive attack Guo Wengui's "rule of law fund" suspected of fraud to absorb the powder, and finally led to Yan Limeng and Guo Wengui turned against each other, Guo Wengui launched a legal action against Limeng. Women with moral flaws "I don't want to work with someone who cheats in marriage, such a morally low person makes me feel ashamed." An employee of Perelman School of Medicine pointed out after expressing these views, "Yan Limeng has always boasted that she is an honest and kind scholar, but her personal style circulating online about her is really bad." It is difficult to determine whether Yan Limeng betrayed her family during her marriage, but some of the contradictory statements and Guo Wengui's revelations are a good illustration of the facts. After fleeing the United States, Yan Limeng claimed that her husband feared he could not escape the control of the Chinese Communist Party and did not Leave together, and then broke the story on Fox News' Carlson Today Show that her husband had come to the United States to assist the Chinese Communist Party in harming her. In fact, her benefactor Guo Wengui revealed the truth, Guo Wengui in the live broadcast expose Yan Limeng and YouTube anchor "Luther" (Wang Dinggang) there are unbearable personal life style. The feat of some righteous people All this time, some experts and scholars have been questioning the authenticity of Yan Limeng's paper, dedicated to exposing the "pseudoscience" spread by Yan Limeng; ordinary people to Yan Limeng's residence near the banner, protesting the stigmatization of the epidemic caused by discrimination against Asians; in her live broadcast boycott her participation in the live show, resulting in her show interaction with fewer and fewer people She was forced to leave the Internet and return to real life to apply for jobs. However, justice advocates do not want Yan Limeng to go into hiding and continue to spread false information about the new crown outbreak. Guo Wengui found out Yan Limeng's current address: Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (3400 Civic Center Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19104) through the FBI agent's connection, Some members of the "New China Federation" started a campaign to "maintain the clean campus and reject Yan Limeng's entry into Perelman Medical" on the telegram, calls on people who love freedom and uphold the "Rule of Law Foundation," especially members of the "New China Federation. On March 21, Yan Limeng's address near the banner to protest Yan Limeng false new crown theory, reveal Yan Limeng and YouTube anchor "Luther" (Wang Dinggang) affair, the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine campus to protect the clean land. submitted by Intelligent-Pea4144 to u/Intelligent-Pea4144 [link] [comments] |

2023.06.04 06:43 xX_codgod420_Xx An Amateur Investigation into the Psychology of r/LionsManeRecovery
I want to start by asking that nobody engages in any sort of brigading or personal attacks as a result of this post. I'm only interested in contributing to the discussion so we can begin moving past some major issues surrounding lion's mane that have cropped up recently.
I'm not an expert, but I do have some relevant personal experience. I wanted to investigate (within 10k characters) some prominent users of the
LionsManeRecovery community to figure out what's going on. What I seemed to find is that mental health struggles are at the core of the problem, and the people I looked at all seem to be dealing with different issues, grouping together via internet phenomena over the shared commonality of their incidental use of lion's mane.
I first came across this post by u/MikeJBWilliam where he was exclaiming how LM can cause permanent damage, and gave a long list of anecdotes from different Reddit users. This was his most recent post:
He describes how years prior, he took Om brand LM extract for 5 days. As far as I can tell Om doesn't actually sell extract, and he was taking what some user called "myceliated rice powder", possibly mixed with dry mushroom. He was taking a product that was weaker than the lion's mane extracts that you'd typically buy in pill form, but he thought that he was taking an unusually large amount.
Over this period, I also noticed a gradual decline in my memory and ability to focus. College work became excruciating, and holding more than one idea in my mind became frustratingly difficult.
My mental abilities have remained heavily impaired since. I find it almost impossible to dream or visualize[...]
Looking a bit deeper into u/MikeJBWilliam's history, I found these posts:
The posts are removed, but the comments give some interesting clues.
Further back in their user history, I found several posts detailing the use of psychedelics and research chemicals to self-medicate "a decade long anhedonic depression/dissociation that neither therapy or a good lifestyle could fix". He mentions that he ingested the LM powder while on "about a tenth of a blotter" of LSD:
Within minutes of taking the mushrooms a part of my awareness "switched off". It has still not turned back on again. It was a scary experience and over the next few months I fully realized what I had lost.
Focusing on my studies became incredible difficult as I could no longer hold things and "see them clearly" in my working memory. I lost the ability to dream and to visualize. I started getting agitated/annoyed/aggressive in social situations (Something that I never used to do) and I felt a lot less safe riding a bicycle, as I lacked the full awareness of my surroundings (cars on the road, pedestrians on the footpaths).
On the nootropics sub, one user said this on the matter:
What you describe sounds very much like thought withdrawal which is a symptom of schizophrenia. Very likely induced by the LSD.
My impression is that this person was likely predisposed to psychosis/schizophrenia, and was using a range of powerful substances to self-medicate during the prodromal phase. It's hard to say whether LM potentiated the LSD in some way, or whether they would have experienced the same decline, at the same time, if they didn't combine these substances. But I do not think that this was an issue caused by lion's mane.
Next is the top moderator and one of the most active users, u/ciudadvenus. I think they're mostly responsible for the depictions of fire and brimstone that you can see in the subreddit. They're the one with the current pinned post, which says:
Do not try Lion's Mane under any circumstances! The price you could pay later is simply not worth it! This is seriously the most dangerous substance that exists.
The worst imaginable hell on earth
In the main text, they describe symptoms like "physical and mental pain", "rushes of accelerated heartbeat many times per day", "an extreme sensation of absolute fear without cause at all", "depersonalization and derealization", "strong panic attacks", etc.
He says that he took a single 500mg dosage of fruiting body extract from 'Nature’s Answer', 1/3rd of the daily dose recommended on the bottle.
So, I've experienced his symptoms hundreds of times, and the progression of his condition mirrors what I went through a few years ago.
He developed panic disorder, but did not understand what was going on. While desperately seeking an answer, he latched onto the idea that it was an unknown medical condition resulting from a single low dose of lion's mane. In reality the LM was probably an innocent bystander.
Clues within the earlier parts of the post establish that he was both nervous about taking lion's mane, and had difficulty sleeping the night before the first panic attack. I'm going to assume that he was also predisposed to anxiety and neuroticism. These are all precipitating factors. Much like my own experience with the disorder, if it didn't start then, it probably would have started later. I don't think that lion's mane physically contributed to it in a significant way.
Another major user on that subreddit I want to mention is u/MicroscopicStonework. This is the other primary moderator. They also have a YouTube channel primarily dedicated to vlogs on the topic.
This user had also ingested the Om brand of powdered lion's mane material. He says that it was for only two weeks.
In his vlogs he gives descriptions of various persistent somatic experiences and anxieties. Among the issues he reports are perceptions of muscle tightness, compulsive and repetitive movements in various body parts, numbness and weakness in the fingers, a severe inability to focus and find relief aside from when he's asleep, as well as feelings of despair and guilt for how his condition is affecting those around him.
It's clear that this person is suffering immensely, and it's heartbreaking to see. I'm very concerned about the medical procedures that he's had done, such as 'nerve block injections'. I feel as if the doctors he's dealing with are ignorant of the nature of his problems, and this probably contributes to his feelings of confusion and hopelessness.
One of his significant contributions to the LionsManeRecovery subreddit is a massive write-up that begins here:
u/MicroscopicStonework does not seem to be dealing with panic attacks or psychosis. While I can't diagnose him, I have some ideas. From skimming through the text posts, it seemed to be a pretty clear case of hypochondria. And that's likely true. But from watching the vlogs, I also get a very strong impression that the root cause is that this individual may be suffering from undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) with heavy somatic and tourettic features.
I say this as someone who has OCD and Tourette's Syndrome, which led me to experience severe health obsessions, as well as panic disorder, in the past.
Outside of their respective communities, these neurological conditions are very misunderstood, and it's common for them to be misdiagnosed by doctors who aren't educated on them. Sufferers can have a hard time describing their symptoms as well.
"Tourettic OCD" seems to closely align with his experiences of compulsive movements in response to different feelings of tension and whatnot. This is a decent introduction to the concept:
https://youtu.be/evxW-7vK4bU
Tourette's is another possibility, but there's a lot of overlap, and OCD alone can cause these symptoms. Extreme stress can also cause "Functional neurological symptom disorder", that being dysfunction absent a physical cause.
Preoccupations and worries regarding health and well-being are also common, including closely perceiving normal sensations (including symptoms of stress/anxiety) to the point that they are distressing.
Lastly, a quick mention of Ryan Russo: a bodybuilding influencer who's spoken on the topic as well. He blames lion's mane for a set of symptoms he has - primarily sexual dysfunction.
From watching that video we can see that he admits to abusing steroids and taking testosterone. These things are known for ruining the body's natural ability to produce T, and I'm highly skeptical of the idea that lion's mane is the cause of his problems, as opposed to damage from using gear.

2023.06.04 06:42 Not-Tentacle-Lad New Resident Of Pleasant Grove, Noise Concern
I don’t want to be a Karen but there’s no way to avoid it… I live near State and Main in Pleasant Grove, been here for about 8 months. One nagging constant is obnoxiously loud cars revving their engines up and down state street at all hours of the night. Don’t particularly care about it in the middle of the day, but it’s a really regular occurrence that I get woken up past midnight by someone’s car(s). Don’t know if they’re just joyriders, one or a few collective of people, or generally ignorant/inconsiderate, but it’s really killing living here.
I’m curious if anyone else in the area has any insight. I’m from the main valley originally… I’ve lived in Murray/Taylorsville area and North Salt Lake/Bountiful area and NEVER had this issue before. Do we just have a lot of people down here with the intelligence of cavemen? Have people in our community complained to the police or city authorities but there’s something impeding change?
I’m probably gonna get ridiculed by people because it’s Reddit and there’s always that one person that likes loud cars so they get offended reading about someone equating loud car people to morons, but I thought I’d give it a try. Kinda just venting too; people are really inconsiderate and suck. Never had people blasting their stereos and revving their engine at 2AM until I moved south of the point of the mountain. Kinda makes me want to move back up north when my lease is up.
In reality, can our community do anything about it? Or am I just going to see the nasty side of Reddit make fun of me for not wanting to tolerate smooth brains who are too ignorant to consider their noise level in the middle of the night.

2023.06.04 06:42 FenyxDaFloof Why am I not satisfied in my relationships? Mentally cheating?
So basically I've dated several people, longest relationship was w my gf for 4 months and I've dated her twice. I have an ex bf that I've also dated twice, and a guy I kept seeing over and over again until he got an official gf.
I'm currently not interested in any of them and I have an amazing bf who I can relate to alot, he cuddles me, gives me attention, and we talk when he's around although I'm more of the talker. However like on the phone texting and stuff I find I'm always the one to reach out first. He says that he legitimately loves me (told him how I felt abt him saying stuff like that in the beginning of our relationship amd we've dated over a month now) but he started saying it two weeks ago. I don't think I feel the same way
I've noticed a pattern. I get bored in relationships. I've been cheated on, left behind, and heartbroken and I think maby I'm broken. I can't seem to form long lasting relationships to people in general, friends and partners. I find myself talking to a guy on insta and he's also rlly sweet and if we lived near each other I'd wanna see him. Am I mentally cheating on my current bf?

2023.06.04 06:42 The_Crafty_Introvert In need of a tank top pattern
| I just got a tattoo on my upper spine area and realized after the fact that I own zero loose fitting comfy tank tops to wear around the house while it's healing. Problem is I cant find a tank top at any stores near me with a low enough back neckline to fully clear the tender area. I'm looking for a pdf pattern similar to the simplicity one pictured above (specifically the middle view) so I don't have to drive 45 minutes to my local fabric store for it. All the patterns I've found so far either have cross back or strappy details that would rub directly on the tattoo, so I'm desperate for any other suggestions submitted by The_Crafty_Introvert to sewing [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 06:41 mangoyogurt0 Engineering Girl with sub-(A2C)standard ECs and Awards get a surprise! + reflection and advice
Hi! As you will see, I didn't publish research/co-author a papecreate a non-profit/found a company/present at a science faiwin a national award/etc/etc. Hopefully future applicants will learn something idk. I realize the post is very long, at the end is my reflection/advice. Keeping it vague because I don't want to get exposed as a Reddit user to my friends
Demographics - Gender: Female
- Race/Ethnicity: Asian
- Residence: US
- Type of School: Competitive Public
- Hooks: None
Intended Major: MechE
Academics - GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.5 W
- W GPA is lower than some top students at school because I took a lot of random electives that weren't AP/Honors
- Rank: no rank
- # of Honors/AP/Dual Enrollment: 16 total
- Senior Year Course Load: Calc 3 & Linear Alg Dual Enrollment @ local CC, AP Bio, AP English, 1 engineering elective, AP Government, AP Micro, school orchestra
Standardized Testing - SAT: 1570 (780 RW, 790 M)
- AP: All 5s (including Physics 1, C Mech & EM, Calc BC) except 4 AP English in junior year
Extracurriculars/Activities - Robotics (9-12, mechanical lead in 12th): by far my biggest time commitment but also my least favorite activity because team politics :
- Robotics Internship at local university (12): sounds cool but wasn't actually. Followed undergraduate researcher around the lab, failed a couple of 3D prints, mixed some chemicals. No reports published, no research authored. At least I had fun
- Independent project with university professor (10): also sounds cool but wasn't actually. got the project through pure nepotism because it was COVID and my parents were stressed I was doing jack shit at home, again at least I had fun
- Volunteer for science organization (9-12): my favorite activity I easily spent 200+ hours on it to the point where my parents told me to chill a bit because I was not doing other things. basically teaching younger students various science topics
- Orchestra (9-12): played oboe/english horn in highest ranked youth orchestra in the area. Liked orchestra, did not like lessons and practice
- Soccer (9-12): JV (9,10) and varsity (11,12). did pretty well in JV but ate more snacks than I played matches in varsity
- School Rocket Club (9-11): I was really into rockets and such in middle school but then I stopped liking it in the middle of 10th grade and I stuck it out until 11th but gave up in 12th
- Random ass personal robot project (11): I was bored. It looked really janky and barely worked but the colleges don't need to know that. Submitted to a total of 0 science fairs/awards.
- Local children's museum volunteer (9-12): I quite enjoyed this one even though it involved talking to people. Basic museum staff things like front desk management, giving prizes to kids, telling people where the bathroom is when the giant sign is right above them
- Playing piano (9-12): In the Common App's "Position/Leadership Description" I wrote "Hobby" lmao
Awards/Honors - Robotics team award
- State/County honor bands
- Qualified for AIME in 11th and 12th (for the record, both years I made it by 1.5 points and got 1 point on the actual AIME, but again, colleges don't need to know that) (unless they asked for it in their application)
- National Merit Semi Finalist
- Spanish award from school
Letters of Recommendation I would say my rec letters were probably pretty good. I got 3 recs total, with at most 2 going to each college depending on what teachers they wanted. I'd known them for all four years of high school some way or another, so I had a more friend-friend relationship with them instead of teacher-student.
Interviews MIT: My first interview! It was definitely a "I ask you answer" kinda feel instead of conversational. The guy would not stop staring at me and smiling which I think meant he was listening to me intently but I was a bit unnerved
Cornell: He was really nice and funny but he also did most of the talking. I vibed with him though
Princeton: Was given the option to do either in-person or virtual, chose Zoom because I couldn't be bothered to go out of my house. Also I was on vacation when they emailed and I didn't email back until my interviewer sent a follow-up email. The interview itself was good though, she was from the same area I'm from so we had some things in common.
Essays I spent a hell of a lot of time writing my essays. I had one outside paid tutor look at some of them, but only a couple since I ran out of time near the end and most of the RD essays went unchecked. I really liked my personal statement though. I can explain more in detail if you want to known through DMs but it wasn't anything big and sad and traumatic, I think it was kind of funny and said a lot about my personality/my values.
Decisions Acceptances: - A handful of safeties that were all coincidentally in the middle of nowhere
- Purdue (EA)
- UIUC (EA)
- UMichgan (EA)
- Georgia Tech (EA)
- UCLA
- UC Berkeley
- UPenn
- Princeton
Waitlists: - Northeastern (deferred EA)
- Cornell
- HMC
Rejections: - Yale
- Columbia
- Rice
- Northwestern
- MIT
Reflection (skip to next section if you don't wanna read me ranting about my college choices):
Ultimately, I chose Princeton over the strong public engineering schools (which I think are ranked higher in terms of engineering than Princeton?) because of a couple of reasons:
- Majors--I tried compsci this year and quite enjoyed it, so I started also considering CS/EE/CE over MechE. At Berkeley switching would be virtually impossible, and it would be difficult at the other public schools as well due to capped major policies and such.
- Size--I didn't like the size of public schools. I personally know students who loved it, but I really didn't want to go to a big school.
- Undergraduate programs--Princeton really sold me on their "undergraduate focused" school, basically that due to their very small graduate population a lot of their resources like funding, research opportunities, faculty are much more available to undergraduates than other schools with a large graduate body.
- Prestige--yeah I'm not gonna lie prestige definitely pushed me and my parents in the Princeton direction, especially as immigrants they were excited about Ivys
Side note: I'm OOS for all publics, but even then I think Princeton had the highest price for me. They did give me financial aid (albeit a very small amount) which helped. Whichever school I chose, my parents had enough savings so I wouldn't have to take out loans, which I'm very grateful about.
Advice:
I'm honestly just as clueless as you are as to college admissions, but here's my take from the past several months. If I had to guess which part of my application got me into these schools--since I know there are people with more "impressive" ECs and awards who got rejected--I would say my essays and everything that comes with them. I wrote them about things that were unique to me, in ways that were unique to me. None of them were about really impactful things, but I'd like to say they were very honest about me and my life, which I think showed my personality really well. In a similar vein, I truly enjoyed my extracurriculars. If I could redo high school, I wouldn't not do any of them. I think this showed in my essays as well. Another note: for a lot of my extracurriculars, I did them for all four years of high school and continued them even after application season, which is definitely a plus as it shows admissions officers commitment and that I'm passionate about what I do, not just starting in junior year for college.
Hoping this helped! If you have any questions, feel free to DM, but please take everything here with a grain of salt because the biggest lesson I've learned through this process is that it all really comes down to luck.

2023.06.04 06:41 Brentonam001 WoR (Ch 81-82)
Ch 81 “Why were they just standing there watching? “Brandons Lanterns! They’re gonna pull something...
Ah, if there was any character to kill off, Navanis position fits best.
The more Dalinar is right, the more he seems to be losing it. Getting too cocky. Its giving me Doctor Who vibes. The bigger the saviour complex, the more risks hes taking.
“The parshendi started singing” I only half-understand the interludes. Do the sing to gain Warform? I knew Rlain would dramatically get there a second too late, he should have been with them the entire time.
Sanderson does sudden dread well. And since this is mid-chapter, Kaladins POV will inevitably be a twist of equal or worse dread.
Ooft. “The king was Dalinars Tien.” At this point MOASH is going to be the one feeling blindsided.
If it turns out the stormfather gave parshendi evil lightning power... exactly who or how is Dalinar supposed to ‘unite’ them Who are them anyway? Who is making the request, and who gets to be included?
Oh the almighty IS trying to kill him. ...but it was His idea to begin with wasn’t it? Very fickle this guy.
Ch 82
Funny how Shallan and Kaladin can lie all they want and Kaladin can say “IIm with you” to guards right bwfore knocking them out and that dorsnt affect the spren or damage his honour.
Welp. Kings dead.
“I am not the almighty.” Oh. But you’re still evil enough to control and attack but empathetic enough to be sorry Dalinarmight die? What is going ON?
“The piece of god” ah so not literalshards. God broken into pieces.
Welp. Kings alive.
Oh yeah assasin in white hasnt struck Dalinar nor Elhokar. Whered he go?
Narratively Kaladin has to run into Moash of all people. He isnt getting out without a confrontation.
There it is. Oh of course thats a cliffhanger. The ending is always full of cliffhangers.

2023.06.04 06:40 Sad-Top-5054 I want to hug Vessel so bad.
I mean after I listen to Euclid and TNDNBTG, the familiar line was sang, it's like he wants to remember the journey we already get through from their first album until the third album.
Like cinematic ending scene, I imagine he say before he leave;
The whites of your eyes Turn black in the lowlight In turning divine And we tangle endlessly Like lovers entwined I know for the last time You will not be mine So give me the night, the night, the night

2023.06.04 06:40 sono81 LED full brightness
How can I ensure that my LEDs are at the maximum brightness? I have a strip of LEDs 12 volt but I'm not sure that they are being powered optimally because they seem a little dim to me even though they are at full brightness. Not talking about full white. Just full brightness of any color I choose.

2023.06.04 06:39 myngrtollul New Tesla Owner - what events count as sentry mode event ?
hii, i just got my first sentry mode event report but there was no footage found (because i didn't have a USB installed oops) —is there any way to retrieve this ? prob not, right?
tbh, the parking lot was pretty sus, especially since i parked relatively far from civilization AND it was dark like no overhead lights to light the lot AND when i came back there was a sus white van a relative distance away ... tbh I'm sort of goofy for that..
but I was wondering, since i have no footage of anything, what events would trigger the alert to go off. Like would it alert me if there were people walking past casually, like relatively close, maybe someone from a car parked next to me entering/leaving close, or would it go off on more sus events like people physically leaning on it, etc
Thanks a bunch :D
