2023.03.30 01:17 101danny101 Soda vs bad snacks/food - Is soda worse?

My recent weight gains have given me a serious reality check on eating healthier, so I've started to change this up since a few days and search around the internet. On average, I ate about 700kcal+ a day just on snacks alone with 2 ''no sugalight/diet'' soda's a day.
I realized these no sugars are just as bad for my health and weight gain as a normal one, and that 1 can a day is even already too much. I cut down my snacks a lot and try to keep it under 200kcal a day now in a slightly more healthy way too.
But after having watched many videos about how bad soda is online, I started to wonder, do all these negative things also apply to the unhealthy snacks? Cookies, chocolate, chips etc. Or is soda actually worse than unhealthy snacks?
Of course, both are bad but, are soda's worse than unhealthy snacks? Is it better to eat unhealthy snacks with water than no snacks with 2 sodas a day?

2023.03.30 01:16 NotAGunner33 Cycle Recap From a Reapplicant - $$$$ at Northwestern!

PLEASE READ MY MID-CYCLE RECAP POST FOR MORE INFO ABOUT MY R&R! R&Ring can be a great option for many! https://www.reddit.com/lawschooladmissions/comments/zxez6q/midcycle_recap_from_a_reapplicant_dont_be_afraid/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Yale - Pending: I am going to see what happens with this one but even if I somehow got in I don't think I would go because my goals aren't crazy enough to take on that kind of debt.
Stanford - Pending: Same as Yale.
Chicago - Waitlist: This one hurt a bit because I interviewed, and I would like to practice in the Midwest so this was one of the few schools I really wanted badly. I wouldn't have gotten much aid if I got in probably so not a huge deal at the end of the day.
Harvard - Rejected: I expected this and never had my sights set on HYS so I didn't mind this outcome.
Columbia - Waitlist: Not a fan of NYC so this one didn't hurt much. There were only a handful of schools I was seriously interested in but I went on a bad run of WL and R's so eventually I was feeling a little down about how my cycle was going.
Penn - Waitlist: Again, not one of the schools I was seriously interested in but I did think I was going to get an A here based on stupid date change stuff. Just goes to show you can never trust that like you think you can except for a select few schools.
NYU - Hold: I withdrew so I won't ever know what happened. This one was a little concerning because people with my stats bat like 90% at NYU, but I didn't care much about NYU itself.
UVA - Waitlist: I wasn't that interested in UVA and they must have been able to tell. Credit to them.
Berkeley - Waitlist: This was the only T-14 I considered not applying to so this was ok with me.
Michigan - Rejected: I don't even know where to begin with this one and you can probably check my post history at the time this happened but this result was absolutely devastating. Michigan has always been my dream school by a mile, I am in-state, wrote both optionals, visited twice, and was waitlisted last year with a way worse LSAT, no work experience, and a terrible PS. This result was so shocking and it truly felt like they rejected me as a human being because there are some SERIOUS personal reasons why going to Michigan made so much sense for me. Maybe one day I will get over it but right now I have some animosity about that whole situation. No one is owed anything but to be rejected............
Duke - Waitlist: Not a school I was super interested in.
Cornell - Accepted ($$+): This was my first acceptance and I really grew to like Cornell. I think I would have loved Ithaca but they just didn't give me enough money and I was not a CEHS finalist.
NORTHWESTERN - ATTENDING ($$$$): This offer nearly gave me a heart attack. NU was one of the few schools I was very interested in but I did not think I could possibly get a full-tuition scholarship there based on the data I was looking at. I also told myself and my family I would only go to NU over ND if I got a full ride. Because of this, I had essentially committed to Notre Dame. However, when this offer came through it didn't take long for me to realize this was where I needed to be and wanted to be. I am beyond excited to be in Chicago this Fall!
Georgetown - Accepted ($$+): Georgetown was not a school I was very interested in until I was invited to apply for the Blume Scholarship. However, it does not appear I was granted an interview and I withdrew because it could not top the NU full-ride for me personally.
WashU - Accepted ($$$+): WashU is a really neat school and I could have seen myself going there if things shook out the right way. However, my GPA was just below the cutoff for a full ride and I got some offers from other schools I liked more.
Alabama - Accepted ($$$+): I only applied here because they waived my CAS fee, too.
Notre Dame - Accepted ($$$$): I was very interested in Notre Dame because I do not live far from it and I want to practice in the Midwest. I got accepted with a full ride very early and really grew to love the school. I have a recent post about my experience at ASD and I was very excited to be heading to ND. NU's offer at the 11th hour was actually really hard for me because I was so sure I was going to ND and I felt great about the school. I realized I would always wonder what it would have been like to go to NU if I was at ND and I don't think I will have quite that same feeling at NU. I also realized if NU had just offered me the scholarship earlier it would be an easy choice and it was just my emotions that were giving me pause.
Arizona State - Waitlist: This was my first result of the cycle and it must be YP. Honestly, smart on their part because I wasn't actually interested but they paid for my CAS fee so I figured why not.
For a while, I felt like I had underperformed in this cycle. I wasn't that sad about it because I still had at least one offer I was happy to accept. I think NU's offer alone actually turned my cycle into an overperformance because of how amazing it is. I am so thankful for how everything turned out and I am happy to answer questions about R&Ring or anything else!

2023.03.30 01:16 teddybear0203 My mum washed my perfectly clean, brand new plushie, now its not the same

So I have this beloved plushy that I received from my boyfriend recently. I am currently at work so cant take a picture of it but I got a picture of it on google. Its the Histoire D'ours Bunny. Basically, I love this plushie, mainly because of the sentimental aspect of it (my boyfriend gifting it to me, and bunnies have always been an inside joke/thing we have).
While I was at work though, my mum decided to wash it for some reason. She decided to wash my bed sheets and saw the plushie and decided to throw it in the washing machine as well. I was furious.... I loved the smell that it had, and now it smells like detergent/mildew. Some parts of it smells strongly of detergent, and the other parts (mostly the legs and the bottom part) smells musty like mildew.... Definitely something I couldn't cuddle in bed with anymore.
So i decided to wash it again, instead with my shampoo ( i rather it smell like shampoo than detergent), and now its just left on a rack in the sun... Basically i handwashed it, i googled a ton and decided to just dunk it in water and pump it using shampoo.
My question is, i am just worried that the fur will not be the same... is that possible? did i need to condition it as well? it is a super soft plushie. i am also worried about it smelling like mildew again because it hasnt been hot lately so its taking awhile to dry in the sun.. (i dont want to put it in the dryer to avoid damaging it even more). I have also heard putting it in direct sunlight could bleach the fur as well..... I am just so anxious, I just want it to be back to normal, any advice or clarification would be appreciated.

2023.03.30 01:15 Sure_Ad_7378 Burning !

Im a 27 year old female who got gastric sleeve surgery in October of 2021. Since week one i had problems. My body was in incredibly bad shape and i never felt good. It was the toughest surgery i had ever been through. Sipping water alone would make me nauseous. I gave up and shakes and such immediately. December rolled around and i expressed concern to my surgeon about my inability to stomach water no matter the temperature, the kind, etc. I was able to drink anything else with no issues. December & January of 2022 roll around and I decide that I can’t take it anymore and my surgeon prescribes me omeprazole and sucralfate. At this point, the burning is happening about every 3-4 hours. It seemed like a hunger cue and was extremely weird. I kept making appointments and expressed my concern about these occurrences. I was told ( hope you’re ready for this) BY MY SURGEON, to alternate between Pepcid complete and omeprazole. The burning wasn’t relieved by this by the way, the only way the burning was relieved is if i ate something. June/July of 2022, I ended up going for tests. I had an endoscopy, they have ruled out everything: Cecliacs, no indication of GERD, nothing wrong with my gallbladder, everything was perfectly fine with my insides … and until this day I still deal with a burning in my stomach after a few hours have passed. I do not take any medication for this, just probiotics ( I saw another surgeon for a second opinion and this was their advice to me: to try probiotics because our stomach flora can change after a surgery. This is still extremely frustrating and I dont want to have to eat sooooooo frequently just to avoid pain and burning in my stomach and until this day, my water intake is AWFUL because its just so extremely nauseating and i dont drink anything else but coffee. Has anyone experienced something similar? What did you do in this situation? Is this my new hunger cue? Should I get a revision? I haven’t gained any weight, I just don’t want to live like this forever.

Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is an excellent business model for beginners, as it involves promoting other people’s products and earning a commission on any sales that you generate. You don’t have to create your own product, handle customer service or worry about shipping. You just have to promote the product to your audience.

This model takes care of the storage, shipping, and customer service for you, making it easy to get started. Additionally, there is a massive potential for scalability with Amazon FBA.

With platforms like Shopify, it is simple to set up an e-commerce store, and there are numerous products to choose from. You have complete control over the customer experience, from the website design to shipping and handling.

With info products, you have complete control over the creation and distribution process, allowing you to create something truly unique and valuable. You can sell it over and over again, making it a great source of passive income.

2023.03.30 01:14 gabrielleduvent No supervision in postdoc lab, is this normal?

(also posted in labrats)
Hi folks,
I was previously a patch-clamp electrophysiologist who defended and moved to a heavily molecular bio lab, which I've been part time for six months until this month. For reference, I am the kind of person who did one western blot (saw bands with Ponceau, and that was the end of the lab) during undergrad and then never touched it again during grad school, and had never been in a TC hood before.
The issue is that I am mostly left alone in all things. For example, I just did my first western blot today and I was entirely unsupervised. The protocol in the lab database had some missing information (such as blocking solution is milk in TBS-T). It just said 5% milk, and so I dissolved the dry milk in water. That sort of thing. The lab heavily focuses on confocal as well, something I had never used before. I keep getting contamination in my primary cultures. There are times when I have to spend few minutes looking for things (before I came in almost nothing was labeled, -80 had no database, the other databases were last updated in 2019, etc), and sometimes those minutes can be critical... Which also sends me into panic.
Obviously, I am not producing data, and most of the protocols so far have been practice runs for me. Furthermore, there are days when I have to run 2+ different protocols at once, and recently that's been everyday. So yesterday I had to feed cells, PCR, do BCA and ATP assays, while fixing 72 cover slips. Most days I am exhausted and I've been making dumber mistakes. My calculation speed has hit an all time low and I just had to spend five minutes today calculating 5% of 100 on calculator.
I don't think I'm weak willed, as I basically had to teach patch clamping to myself and I managed to do that in 3 months, but this constant pressure to produce results ASAP and not make mistakes is lowering my performance and I have started considering quitting research entirely. I feel like a toddler being asked to make a soufflé along with a three course dinner with recipes where it is just a partial list of ingredients, while the adult is in the kitchen maybe once every few hours. There is a more senior postdoc who started the same time as me (she is senior because she previously was a research scientist elsewhere and has had experience with molecular bio stuff) and she has said the same thing.
Is this level of supervision - or lack thereof - normal? And how do people survive through it?

2023.03.30 01:14 SingAndDrive For those finding themselves needing to retake and traditional bar prep did not work

This post is for bar exam retakers who finds themselves needing more than the standard, cookie-cutter bar prep that companies offer. I know I needed something different to try because I did not retain enough law using a traditional bar prep program for the J22 exam. I passed in F23, going from a 258 to a 284, in a 272 jurisdiction. This not an all inclusive list, but it hits on most of my heavily used tools. If you are stuck, these things may help you. I want to see everyone pass, and I created this post as a way that I can pay it forward because I have found a lot of support and comfort from all of you during these last 12 months of studying.
First, I did NOT practice writing MEES or MPTs at all - none! If you can IRAC, CRAC, or RAC, you don't need to write them out. This wastes valuable study time. You only need to master the rules as best as you can. If you've got the rule, then you've got an answer. It's as simple as that. Study ALL rules not just the highly tested rules because the NCBE is testing rarely tested rules now, i.e. constructive adverse possession, testamentary capacity, etc. These topics appeared only 2-4 times across all prior exams. You need to know these less frequently tested rules. JD Advising has a one-page FREE MPT template guide for the most frequently tested tasks. I thought it was a little helpful.
Video lectures - are a big waste of time. If you don't understand a subject/topic, then watch a video, but speed it up to 1.25 or 1.5x to cut down on how much time you need to spend to get what you need to know. Limited time to study is your enemy. Use it wisely. Studicata and JD Advising have a lot of free video lectures on YouTube. You don't need to pay Themis, Barbri, etc. when you can get most everything for free.
Issue spotting - this is IMPORTANT and where I struggled in J22. Best thing I did was review every MEE & MPT in the NCBE BarNow "Everything Pack" including each of the grader's point sheets. Seeing what issues the bar examiners want from certain prompts and how topics are tested is PRICELESS. I reviewed them all, not once but TWICE. This study aid cost me on sale $125, but I think it is now $145. Totally worth it!! This is GOLD. (You will also get about 625 licensed questions in the pack and a game to play to see how many in a row that you can answer correctly).
I will say that I lived and breathed out of my SmartBarPrep skinny outline ($124). I could eventually memorize where something was on a page and what the rule 'looked' like. I don't have a photographic memory but it's something that can be developed to be able to recall what the rule 'looked' like and somehow the elements just got easier to recall. You can retain what's in a 100 page outline, not what's in a 500 page outline.
I found this video about 6 weeks before I took the exam. I listened to this guy's advice (he has taken 30 bar exams and passed), and it increased my practice MBE % correct by 5% instantly if you apply his strategy. This was VERY valuable to me. https://youtu.be/bITXRay12D8
I would watch some more of ReedBarReview videos, all the free stuff, because each one gives you something you may be able to use in other parts of the test or for the MBE because he has memory aids that help with hearsay, relevant evidence, strict products liability, and more.
I also watched the free portion of the Studicata Bar Exam Refresher and all other free video courses he offers. I especially liked his 5 MEE explainer videos that you can watch for free on YouTube. These are GOLD!
You also need to be doing active learning not something passive to engage and retain the rules (reading an outline will not work, watching videos isn't really active learning either). Make your own memory aids for rules that just won't stick in your brain. You WILL remember the elements by doing this for those rules. For example, "I ParKed my car at the MAll by the FRESH Azaleas but FORGOT to READ ONLY for Extra credit." Bizarre, right? Yes, but I still remember the hearsay exception for past recollection recorded because of this. It's all embedded in the sentence. (The witness had Personal Knowledge, the writing was M-ade of A-dopted by the witness, while it was FRESH in the witness's mind, it was A-ccurate, but the witness FORGOT/cannot remember well enough to testify, and it can be READ into evidence but can ONLY be offered as an E-xhibit if offered by the adverse party.)
Write the rules neatly as you can by hand, MANY times, but don't do this while distracted by other things. Be present and focused. I actually did a screen share recording of my writing of the videos with my Remarkable2 and recorded that using VIMEO so I could play back the videos as a way to give myself reinforcement of what I just wrote out. Here's a link to one of them. https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/769242129/824f66f62c If you want to watch it faster, then speed up the videos to 2x. There is no audio in the video.
BarPrepHero's $99 unlicensed MBE question bank. I bought these to have fresh questions to answer once I used up every licensed question I had available to me. I was having diminishing returns on the licensed questions I had taken more than once. This tool has more thorough explanations supported by specific case law that goes beyond what I've seen in any of the licensed questions. I did about 600 questions on that.
Brainscape's MBE Certified Flash Cards. These were helpful and very low cost. I ran through them several times. I also created my own Brainscape cards for MEE subjects. Again, because I made my own, it was an active studying activity. Here's a set of flashcards that I made for Wills, Trusts & Estates that are free to you to use. https://www.brainscape.com/p/4OWOK-LH-CIS85
Bar exam anxiety - This has to be controlled or you will go off the rails on the exam. I got completely overwhelmed in J22 and really messed up in a panic on the MEEs. In F23, I used a breathing exercise. I used 4-square breathing at the beginning of each session as they were reading the instructions before we could open our books. It's a 4-count breathing exercise. Breathe in and count to 4, HOLD for a count of 4, breathe out for a count of 4, and then count to 4 before breathing in again. Repeat until you feel your anxiety starting to ease. It helped me tremendously.
If this helps you get into the passing zone, please send me a chat to let me know. I want to hear about your success and congratulate you personally.

Hi there! I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about the actual GND show, so please let me know if I should delete! I can remember a scene in which Bridget is wearing either a yellow or blue striped bikini and they're doing some sort of playing with water, maybe swimming? It's not S4E12 Surf's Up, so I'm wondering if anyone might now any episodes in general where the girls go swimming or to a water park. This might be a random question, but the context is that I try to collect clothes and pieces from the show, but I like to have photo evidence lol. (I know I'm not hallucinating, I just don't have time to go through the whole show rn only looking for swimming scenes. Any help would be appreciated, thank you all!)

2023.03.30 01:14 ortary How to stop being timid at work?

So I've been working in this company on a trainee position for a bit over a year, first MKT dept. - then sales dept. - then back to MKT
One issue I have at work, and the only thing my manager pointed out during an assessment review - i lack confidence. I rarely speak out, I have trouble standing my ground and I get easily swayed when someone confronts me on smth.
It gets better with time, I work more independently as I gain expertise and I learned to learn and let go when making mistakes, instead of actually having full on mental breakdowns over them.
But still - it's not enough. And that is usually when people older than me in age/seniority.
I am finishing my masters now as well, and it really hit me how different I am at work and in university. I am very active during lectures, I can make a joke, and I'm not afraid to talk to professors at all. Heck, I talk even when I barely know the topic! And in group assignments (we have lots of them) - I realised we kinda always end up doing my idea lmao. I'm put together groups, organize calls, come up with ideas, I ask members to finish their parts, and my friend pointed out you can see when I'm mad because someone was late/didn't do their part.
At uni I'm highly confident - to a point someone asked me to explain a subject to them purely because "you seemed like you get it" (i barely did)
At work I'm rather fine with colleagues my age - but as soon as someone older is involved I pipe down quickly. I'm don't want to be disrespectful or seem stupid, so I just stay quiet most of the time.
What do I do with it?

2023.03.30 01:13 kloc_ Help with theme and title!

Help with theme and title!
Hi Everyone! I'm heading towards game design gazillion but this one I've been having fun designing and need some help with the overall theme and title of the game.
The game is a two player abstract game where players will randomly select two "elements" to play as. These will probably be represented by dice. Players will choose to play 3 dice of one element and 2 dice of the other element. Those elements dice will move around the board a certain way to reflect a similiar real life movement of that element. On the board there is going to be one of each elements symbol so water, air, fire, earth. When you land on an elements symbol, if you are playing as that element you get to perform one of three elements specials which will immediately benefit that element. If you land on an opponents element symbol that they are playing as you get to remove a special from their three specials associated with that element.
The goal is to capture your opponents elements by moving through them or landing on them. The tricky part is if you move through or land on your own elements those get captured as well. Each element dice will have two "health" and once its up that dice will be removed from the game.
Because its an abstract game with an adaptable theme I was hoping to come up with a better theme than elements but for some reason I'm having a hard time coming up with anything else! Based on how the game plays, does anyone have a better suggestion of what the two players could play as instead of elements? and are there any good game titles you can think of for a game like this? Picture for the gameplay reference.
Thank you!

2023.03.30 01:12 Competitive-Arm-8733 My neighbor might be a drug dealer

TW: DV, Animal Abuse
This is partially to vent and also seek advice. I have lived in my house for 2 years now. When we first moved in almost all houses in the block were for sale, periodically families have been buying them and moving in. All of them have been friendly and overall ok. Nevertheless, right next to my house there's a duplex that people rent, when one of the families that live there first moved in, the lady (mom/wife) greeted us very nicely and told us his 15 y/o could cut our grass if we needed. She has always been nice to my husband and I, but to be honest she never seems to be home because she works A LOT in a cleaning company (this is relevant later). Overtime we learned that is a marriage of husband and wife and two or three teenagers. After 1 month, they started fighting a lot, we can hear how someone is beaten, how the kids yell with pain and I've personally have seen the dad and the sons kick and mistreat their dogs. I have called police and animal protection each one time and they did nothing, my guess is they couldn't find evidence or she didn't want to press charges. That's one issue, adding to that they don't have a yard, so they let their dogs poop in my front lawn, they have a lot of clutter and stuff in their front yard (makes the neighborhood look awful tbh). The husband also picked up a habit of drinking with his buddies in the street like he owns it. His friends and him leave bottles of beer in my front yard and trash cans. All in all is just a horrific situation, and you might be asking yourself why have my husband and I said anything?? Well the thing is we truly believe that he's a drug dealer because he never works, has suspicious people drive by, he comes out (armed) and then those cars leave. Also I (female) got home once while he was having q party and he yelled at me "come here baby girl" which honestly makes me be even more afraid of him. Another option is for me to talk with the wife but as I said I never see her and I also don't think (nor want) her to confront that POS.
Side note: someone was murdered in our block a month ago and everyone thinks he has something to do with it since most families in the block are parents with little kids and military.
Hopefully this makes sense sorry if it's confusing english is not my first language.

2023.03.30 01:12 DevilBoy216 Did anyone get a message like this on FanFiction.net?

I got a PM on FanFiction.net titled "Don't waste your writing talent!" with the following text written in the body of the message.
"Dear author, I am an editor from Webnovel, one of the world's biggest online writing communities. I have noticed your excellent work and its great potential. Since March 2023, Webnovel has launched its annual writing contest: WSA (Webnovel Spirit Awards). The contest has been held for 3 years, each lasting 10 months, with a prize pool of up to $1,000,000 and the gold prize receiving $10,000 in cash. We sincerely invite you to join Webnovel and participate in the WSA. This year, we have set up special newbies prizes for new authors like you, who can compete to win $8,000 cash just by publishing your first work on webnovel! At the same time, we offer 50% royalities and a monthly minimum guarantee of $200."
It then lists a website, Facebook page, email, and link to a Discord server.
The whole thing looked to me like another scam/spam PM at first (got them every now and then), but the event is supposedly legit, with a full website and YouTube page instructing on how to enter the contest, even though I've never heard of them. The message looks very automated (saying just "author" in the response and not my username), claiming to notice my work (while not listing any particular moments or specifics), the contest has supposedly been around every three years despite it being started "since" this current year, and the account it was sent from has no bio or favorite stories in it.
Has anybody had any experience with this group, or is it just another scam? If it is a scam, I'd like to make people more aware of it with this post.
Personally, even if it wasn't a scam, I'm doubtful I'd work with anyone who considers what I write to be a "waste", especially when I've written nearly 2 millions words worth of stories, and the 3rd longest one for one of the fandoms I've written for. Pretty insulting for a sales pitch.

2023.03.30 01:12 NotJustAnyDNA Finished Batch with Food Grade 200 Proof Ethanol.

Had to share… Food Grade 200 Proof Ethanol test.
Went from 28 Meyer Lemons (6.9 ounces of Zest) and 20 ounces of 200 Proof ethanol to create over 4 cups of Limincello over 4 weeks. (With left over lemon extract)
How I did it… Zest lemons with microplane zester, weigh (6.9oz) add to jar.
Add Culinary Extract 200 Proof ethanol (20 oz) for maximum extraction.
Soak 4 weeks. Deep yellow liquid at 4 week point!
Pour off ethanol and filter through coffee filters until all liquid is clear yellow with no sediment. Approx 17 ounces of liquid.
Process the zest through masticating juicer.. extract all juice/oils/flavor. Result was .7 ounces of dry zest after juicing. Result was another 5 ounces of liquid.
Filter juiced liquids three times until clear, add to lemon ethanol base.
Final prep was to create super sugar syrup (made from 4 cups sugar, 2 cups water). Boil and co.
Added three cups base to 1 cup super syrup for total of 4 cups. Ratio: 3 cups base lemon extract, 1 cup super syrup.
Alc by volume estimated between 130-140. Lower than 150 as liquid was extracted from lemons zest.
Last step is to let sit another month to incorporate and then either dilute or bottle.
Flavor is amazing but lips are numb. Will likely dilute or use in mini cordials.
