I will be discussing stock, ETF and 401k allocations. This will be based on a consensus of market outlooks & allocations from research papers from Wall St's biggest banks and investment firms (Amundi, Bank of America, Blackrock, Franklin Templeton, HSBC, JP Morgan, Merrill, PIMCO, T. ROWE, TD, SAGE, SUNTRUST, etc.). Feel free to pull the literature from their respective websites, but I've complied their data, and weighted each asset class to generate alpha.

2023.03.30 01:29 EvansFamilyLego Anyone else finding unauthorized charges on cards that were used to pay for orders on Mercari?

My husband and I have had SEVEN debit cards compromised over the last 13 months. The most recent hasn't been compromised... Until the day after I used to it pay for something on Mercari... And the VERY next day, we've got $300+ in unauthorized door dash charges from three different places around the country.
Since I use Mercari a decent amount- this is the first card that hadn't been linked to Mercari for a long period of time because my husband and I both have cards for the same bank account and this was his replacement card. It hadn't been used on Mercari for the 3 months he's had it - but because we were out running errands the other day, and I didn't have my purse - when something popped up that I wanted to order - he said "just use my card and pay from the TD bank account." (I had been linked to a different account).
Within HOURS of making that Mercari payment- his card was used fraudulently several times.
I'm almost positive the only common link between all the frauds - is that every card we've had compromised was used on Mercari at some point.
Has anyone else experienced this?!

2023.03.30 01:23 BloodyBloodshot Could solo traveling serve as a compensation for the college experience I missed out on?

Hello.
So long story short. I have nearly 30K in the bank. And I am currently 27 years old and have never lived on my own. My college years and adolescent years in short have haunted to me to this day. If I sound overdramatic. I apologize but how it went down still bothers me and it's looking like I've lost my 20s too. And if you're wondering, I've been dealing with immense mental health issues since the pandemic. Counseling is ongoing.
I want a setting where I can be free of any responsibility. I desire a setting where yes. I can have irresponsible immature and youthful fun. Basically, I want a space where I can feel like the 19 year old I never got to be even if it is for a very brief moment.
I'll be real. The reason traveling and staying in hostels appeal to me is simply cause they resemble a college dorm room.
Will it exactly be like college? I know that is a hard no. And I know I won't really make any long term friendships from this. And you know what? I don't desire to. I am in no mood for anything serious in my life right now. Frankly, I don't care if I whomever is staying in my hostel is a doctor and I don't care to know about that person's career. I've had an incredibly sheltered life so far, and the only thing I care about is having fun. Again, being the 19 and 21 year old I never got to be is my priority. I want that type of fun I wanted from my college years. I don't care how shallow and meaningless the partying is. Pleasure is the only thing I desire right now.
I have doubts if my 30K will last me more than a year but I'll try to make the most of what I got. I have thought about pursuing being a paralegal or aviation after if I go down this route. In an ideal world, I go for 4 years; in a way sure, I would be having my own "college experience" just at a sad late age unfortunately.
I know I can't be 18 or 20 anymore but I am desperate to have some "self serving compensation" for those times I have missed. If I can get something out of this, then I can promise the world around me that I'll grow up.
My apologies if this is juvenile. The truth is yeah. I am juvenile. And I am desperate to be juvenile. If you want to label me an asshole that is okay too.
So. My question is, does this route suit me? How long realistically will my 30K last me?

2023.03.30 01:20 Eastern_Tomato_8324 Honest opinion about a career in Sustainable Finance

Hey guys, in two weeks I'm becoming a Financial Engineering Graduate and I would like to pursue a career in Sustainable Finance, but where I am from this topic is kinda new and it worries me that I might be barking at wrong tree, and even abroad I don't know the availability of jobs. Looking for opinions and recommendations on this or if I should go with another career path like banking, financial analyst, etc. (Ik I shouldn't ask people on the internet about my future and career lol and I will do further research, but sometimes different perspectives help a lot)

2023.03.30 00:38 Swimming_Shirt_79 New mortgage + HELOC: Collateral Charge

Hi Looking for some assistance understanding collateral mortgages. I just purchased a house (1.5m uninsured 40% down) & would like access to HELOC funds for emergencies.
The bank is offering me the following two separate products: Mortgage at a fixed rate & HELOC at a variable rate
Both are Collateral charges, valued more than the actual loan (both are almost the full value of the house). TD rep is telling me this is because I will have flexibility to borrow more if I need going forward.
My worry is having two liens on the property (equalling almost double the value of the property).
Is this normal?
As an fyi I’m not able to get a mortgage+HELOC in one product - which is thought I would get due to ratios (apparently?) This is the product I initially wanted.

2023.03.30 00:24 unemployedloser3 Can't find an internship... starting to panic

I am a 1Y at an M7 school who cannot find an internship. I was a tech hopeful, but that hasn't panned out - it is a barren landscape. My school's career portal does not have much, and I am doing my best to network on LinkedIn (and broaden my scope), but nothing is materializing. The MBA is only good at placing students into banking and consulting, neither of which is a career that I am interested in. I apologize for the venting, but I am very frustrated and disillusioned. I regret leaving my well-paying job to do an MBA at this point.

The banker Switzerland trusts to stem Credit Suisse crisis
Straight from a class room to trading securities while just a teenager, Sergio Ermotti has had a career which tracked the Wall Street boom that started in the 1980s, and culminated with him fixing Switzerland biggest bank after it fell victim to the last financial crash. Now he is being asked to do it all over again.https://www.wikifx.com/en/newsdetail/202303299774984004.html?gip=TGal61
Ermotti was originally propelled into the role of chief executive at UBS Group AG in 2011 by a rogue trader scandal. He helped rehabilitate the bank before leaving nine years later.
The 62-year-old banker now retakes the helm as UBS grapples with potentially an even bigger problem – absorbing the countrys second-largest bank into one giant wealth manager, without unsettling either investors, the global elite who entrust it with their billions or the Swiss public.

2023.03.30 00:02 k36king1 Is it me or are Cowboys haters reaching new ridiculous levels?

First the Gilmore trade which is an excellent move, they couldn’t say anything about the defense so they attacked Dak Prescott and called him an “Average and Overpaid player”, I can understand the money thing, but the man is far from “Average”. Compare Prescott’s career numbers to Troy Aikman who everyone is in agreement as a Great QB, and you’ll see Dak actually leads Aikman in many categories in the same amount of time and play. He has a 66.6 completion pct. Compared to Aikman’s 61.5 pct. Aikman played in 165 games compared to Dak’s 97, yet Dak has thrown for more TD’s (166-165) in far fewer games than it took Troy. No im not saying Dak is better not at all, but he is not “Average” either. Aikman threw 141 interceptions compared to Daks 65! Yet the haters will have you believe Dak is INT prone, which he isnt. They also want to selectively leave out that Dak had surgery on his throwing thumb which no doubt affected his throws, and who did he have to pass to outside Lamb? Now he has Cooks and Lamb.
The haters are gonna be real real mad next season, because the Cowboys are going to do all of the things they like to talk trash about, and Im all for it. Especially Eagles fans.

"After completing an engineering degree, there are several competitive exams that one can consider taking to further their career goals. One popular option is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The GATE exam is used as a screening test for admission to postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, and architecture, as well as for recruitment in various public sector undertakings (PSUs) and research organizations. Physics Wallah coaching can provide you with an experience that you will cherish for life.
Another option is the Indian Engineering Services (IES), which is a combined competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to various engineering positions in the government, including the Indian Engineering Services. Apart from these exams, there are other competitive exams that engineering graduates can consider, depending on their interests and career goals. These include exams for admission to management courses such as CAT, MAT, and XAT, as well as exams for recruitment in the banking and finance sector, such as the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) exams. For various such courses and exams, Physics Wallah coaching and strategies are your best choice in order to crack these exams.

Been doing my fair share of research around Private Banking and the more people I speak to, the more interested I become. I just wanted to get the thoughts and opinions of everyone here on the subject- what’s it like, salary and exit opps?
For greater context, I am just starting my professional journey. Set to graduate next year and currently interning at a corporate. I live in London but are not opposed to moving abroad for my career - specifically interested in the Middle East

2023.03.29 21:31 Hallohowu Chances at Johnson (profile review)

For context, I’m pretty much dead set on Cornell or bust. I feel that with my current role it wouldn’t make any sense to go to a non t15 school and Cornell is a great fit for me and my post mba goals. Yes there are other schools just as good but I don’t think it’s realistic I’d get in.
Gpa: 3.14. T30 undergrad. Had a 2.1 after my third semester, made a switch to finance and political science from financial economics and got roughly a 3.7 for my last 5 semesters. Don’t really have a solid way to explain the bad beginning performance but I’m thinking about it.
GMAT: I sit tomorrow, my gmat mocks are 710. I think it’s safe to say that by September I’ll have a 700-710. I know, I know, I haven’t locked in my score yet, but I’m asking for consideration given I locked it in. If anything, I don’t apply if it’s lower so this is the base case.
WE: 4.5 years of experience at time of application, 5.5 years at matriculation. leadership development program in finance, 8 months experience at same firm in corporate development/FP&A. Then 1.5 years at divisional FP&A at a BB bank in nyc. 2 promotions. No direct reports
Why mba: I want to be an investment banker. Cornell has a spectacular IB program, i have connections to the IB industry that I couldn’t leverage earlier in life due to my gpa, and I want to do it post mba. My career goal is to be a cfo at a middle market regional bank. My background in FPA & corp dev, combined with FIG m&a experience and a cpa I think it’s a realistic and believable story.
Demographics: Multiracial male, white and carribean (I’m guyanese. I’m not black or Latino or indigenous but I don’t feel comfortable identifying as Indian given my culture is really different. If anything I’m West Indian)
volunteering/EC’s All state bassist College athlete, played baseball. Won first conference championship in history for my alma mater 200 hours over last 2 years as head baseball coach for youth baseball for little league and travel basball Small business owner for baseball training, very very small, ~10 clients IB diploma holder, extensive volunteer work with wildlife sanctuaries and miracle league baseball
All opinions welcome, thanks guys

2023.03.29 20:31 RepresentativeTea787 Are we going in the right direction? Behind in retirement and compromise on finances

I’m wondering if I can get some general financial planning advice, I feel like we could be putting our money to better use or condensing some things. I’ve tried to read up on what I can over the years about investing and saving but especially after reading the wiki I feel like maybe we’re doing things out of order and behind on retirement especially my husband given his age. I’m 31 my husband is 44 we have two kids, my FIL lives with us and we live in the Midwest.
Expenses Our monthly expenses are around $3200-3500… $1500 of that is on the mortgage (includes escrow and $250 extra on principal). I would say we are pretty frugal, always buy secondhand/used/generic while still treating ourselves every now and then. We use a small credit union so using spending apps to track our budget has not been possible although I would love it my husband is more hesitant about switching banks because of fees etc. We don’t pay for any childcare since my husband, and I alternate our schedules.
Income
Together we made $105k in 2022 $115k in 2021 $105k in 2020
My husband also buys cars from the auction on the side but not sure how much he actually makes doing this he doesn’t really keep track of profits. To me, it’s more of a hobby but we currently have a few cars that he will be selling in the next few months and don’t have any car payments because we buy our cars in cash and get them fixed up. I went down to PRN at my job the last year and a half after having my second child (one in 2020 and one in 2021) and starting school. When I did this, I lost my benefits including 401k (more on this below).
Our monthly take home pay averages around $5500-$6000
Savings
Personal savings account $75k savings account linked to our checking account. We feel comfortable having about $25-$30k of this for our emergency fund. I’ve been reading in other posts a lot of people recommend HYSA.
Retirement Accounts
Husband currently has $55k. He came to the US at 30 yo and cashed out his 401k contributions when he left his first job ~2013 not realizing what he was doing. (He got a nice letter from the IRS later on). I just increased his contribution to 10% about a year ago from 5%. His job matches up to $1200 or 50 cents of the employee’s contributed dollar up to 5% (whichever is greater) and just gave him 5% of profit sharing this past year (although I don’t fully understand what this means).
I have a total of $60k with Empower but have not contributed since August of 2021 when I switched to PRN. I wanted to continue to contribute so I rolled over what I could from a previous job into a traditional IRA ~38k but then found out I couldn’t have it taken directly from my paycheck and just left it sitting. The other 22k is in my employer’s 457 plan not even sure if I will have access to all this money if I leave because almost half of it is not vested from what I understand.
HSA account he contributes $50/paycheck I set this at max $1000 in a cash account and the rest is invested with TD ameritrade currently $7250 invested in VOO, VTI, PBUS. We are considering using this to pay for small expenses that come up.
College savings 529 $5200
Brokerage account with fidelity $5800 invested in VOO, FXAIX
I couldn’t decide between a college savings account and a custodial brokerage account so I opened both at the end of 2022 and put $5k in each one and contributed $50/paycheck in each for 2022. However (rookie mistake) I got discouraged with the balance going down and stopped contributing. I’ve wanted to open a brokerage account and invest but my husband is much less risk tolerant than I am so this was another compromise.
Debt
Mortgage left $122k. We bought our home in 2017 for 180k and put 10% down. Made extra payments to get rid of PMI within a couple of years. We refinanced at the beginning of 2021 and switched from a 30y mortgage to 15 years and reduced our interest rate from 4.375 to 2.625% including escrow our mortgage is $1250 but we pay an extra $250 towards the principal. I would prefer to pay the mortgage off ASAP but my husband would prefer to keep the cash on hand for other things so we came to a compromise by paying extra. Its estimated value according to Zillow is 325k.
I am getting my master’s degree and have school loans currently $18k with no interest until 6 months after graduating. I’ll have a projected $30-35k in school loans by the time I graduate in August 2023. Again, I preferred to pay OOP but my husband thinks it’s better to keep the cash in our accounts (even though it’s just sitting there). Once I graduate my expected minimum salary (if I work full-time) will be a minimum of 100k.
Goals pay off our home “early”, contribute to an a account for our kids to use when they're older, buy property in our home country/island (in the Caribbean) possibly use as a rental, retire earlier than 65
Any and all advice or insight would be so appreciated!
