2023.03.30 01:18 EtherealDarkness Insomnia without any medication or coffee
I am usually up till late in the night, sometimes till 3/4am not being able to sleep. I feel quite sleepy around 11/12 but by the time I remember to eat, brush, wash face and get to bed it's 1am, which is okay if I could just sleep then, but no it takes me a good 2-4 hours after to sleep. And then I get hungry again if I have had an early dinner.
Once I get to bed I try to keep the phone away in 30 mins and try to sleep for next 30 mins but it's too boring to keep lying down when I can't fall asleep.
Any tips that has helped? I get those 2am motivations.

2023.03.30 01:17 ihatemybrownsofa Chanel Premiere Watch Version Comparison
Just wanted to put these photos I took somewhere for future reference, maybe it will help someone.
The premiere case is very different from version to version (I was under the impression it was always the same, just different straps/chains), but you can see in these images how the proportions and thickness varies.
I personally found the Rock/warp around version infinitely more delicate and charming. The others are weirdly thick for the size, and not as elongated.

2023.03.30 01:17 newyearsamestuff [M20] Pets turning into a familiar? How do familiars really work?
Its been a while since I read the section on familiars in the book, and I don't have the book with me, but a quick glance at the wiki didn't really answer my questions about familiars.
In case its important, I'll preface this with where our game is set: Julius Caesar's Rome. If I understand the lore correctly, some traditions exist, but for the most part this is a less organized time for mages. Or at least, traditions that exist may have little contact with each other? Idk, I'm getting off track.
My character is a former Roman centurion turned mage. He doesn't have them yet, but I was wanting him to get one or two lions he would raise as cubs. The ST agrees its possible one or both could be/become a familiar, especially if I invest in that background.
Do animals become familiars, similar to the way mortals become mages, through some form of "awakening?" Or are familiars born/created/summoned?
What category of familiar would such a lion familiar be
(per the wiki page on familiars))? "Charismatic mega fauna" or "Attack animal" or is this more open ended like everything else in the game?
How easy/hard to kill are familiars? My mage is weak in warding and counterspells, and I'd hate to lose a companion easily and quickly. Is there any special way to bring back a dead familiar or heal a harmed one (besides simple life magic of course, and that whole process of resurrection for humans our ST told us about, just wondering if familiars are unique in that regard)

2023.03.30 01:17 Agitated_Scientist_2 Ex (F 22) and I (M24) are going back and forth for our son.
Long story short I'm my sons primary caretaker, I have been since he was 2 months and he is currently 6 months now. My gf was working full time and supporting us, recently we've broken up but over the past month or so she kinda blew off me and my son and would come home late doing God knows what. She works from 9-9 but would come home much later alot of times. I found out she was supposed to watch our son after work since we split but went to go out with a guy from work instead so I took our son. She hasn't really been a mother to him, only every now and then. She wants me to sign something saying we split 50/50 as I have had him for the past couple days and let her visit him a couple of times. I told her we can meet up to discuss the babies needs and best interest and I could look over the agreement or not because she wants to do everything through the phone which I dont trust. What should I do? What are my options?? I came to stay with my mother who has been very supportive and I plan on putting my 6 month old into daycare so I can get back to work again.

2023.03.30 01:16 cmpabove CPU question for new high end build.
Hello,
I plan on building myself a high end pc soon but have a question.
Until now, I was running a i5 4570 + 1060 6gb and 8gb of DDR3 Ram. This system was great when I built it and served me really well. However, anytime I would play a game, my CPU would most likely go to 100% usage, making multitasking very painful and slow. Not only would I lose frames in the game, but everything would be slow because the CPU was capped. Even browsing or watching a stream while playing was almost impossible. Sometimes watching a stream or video or two on its own would make it go to 60%.
I plan on building a high end pc for competitive titles, streaming, editing, and multitasking (3k€ or above budget if needed). It will use a 360hz 1080p monitor, and it’s not impossible I buy a 1440p or 4K monitor for solo games depending on the build. Most likely 13600k or 13700k + 32gb (or 64gb?) Ddr5 + 4080 or 4090.
With how far CPU’s have come, is this something I have to worry about with let’s say a 13600k or 13700k? Will I at any point end up to 100% CPU usage with these chips from gaming alone or gaming + some multitasking (even years from now)? Do I have to get the 13900k? ( I’ve been advised against it in my case as very little to no difference from the 13700k). Will it still be fine years from now in that regard ?
My system is very old and wasn’t as high end back in the day as the system I plan on building now, but it’s a big worry I have, and want to avoid. And as such, this pushes me towards buying the best cpu possible to avoid this.
Thank you for the help!

2023.03.30 01:15 mcarpbear My journey: of all the peer group I grew up with, I’m the only one who kept his faith. (Hint: it wasn’t easy.)
My “peer group” formed in high school. My family attended an ultra-conservative, ultra-fundamentalist, explicitly Calvinist church which had all the hallmarks of a cult. The pastor dictated what friends we could have, what activities were permitted, what books we could read, what movies we could watch. Dating was absolutely forbidden. Attendance at the three services each week was MANDATORY. Watching television on Sunday was absolutely forbidden. (It was a treat when we visited my cousins, who were Church of Christ - whom the Calvinists viewed as “liberal” — on a Sunday evening, because we got to watch “heathen” shows such as Disney’s “Wonderful World of Color” and “Bonanza” — even though we’d have to give an account on why we missed Sunday evening service.)
I knew I was gay early on, when I was eight and ran into two of the “ clobber passages” - Leviticus 18 and Romans 1 - and I knew I was “one of those people”. I tried my best, but I could not “pray the gay away” and I finally came out in 1970 when I was a sophomore in high school. Within two weeks, I was excommunicated and formally shunned.
I moved from my church and went to the United Methodist Church which was conservative, but nothing like the Calvinist church I had attended. In our youth group four of the kids happened to be gay. Nobody gave a shit. That was liberating, because I found out I was no longer alone.
That was all fine, just as long as we didn’t act on our own urges. Of course, teens being teens, we were going to act on those urges. My first boyfriend was a Catholic. We attended a Roman Catholic Easter vigil together, and it was the most glorious and DAZZLING thing I’d ever seen! I knew at that point I could never again be an Evangelical Protestant, even as Methodist. Eventually I ended up joining the Episcopal Church, went to seminary, and became a deacon.
The other four kids, of course, acted on their urges too — and they got in trouble with the church elders who told them to cease-and-desist or leave. All of them left, and without exception, all of them lost their faith. I was the only person who kept his faith, but I ended up in a radically different denomination which accepts LGBTs as full and equal members.
My best friend in high school was an American Baptist. American Baptists tend to be very moderate as far as Baptists go, and they were certainly much more liberal than my Calvinist church. Still, they weren’t exactly accepting towards gay people.
I had suspected (maybe “hoped” is a better word, because I had a secret, long-term crush on him!) that possibly he was gay. After we went to college, we lost touch with one another and reconnected may be eight years later it turned out he was gay, found a permanent partner, and was summarily asked leave his church. One of the reasons I liked him in high school was because he was religious, like me. I’ve all my friends who left the church permanently, he’s the one I feel saddest about. When I came out in high school, he stood right beside me, and would not abandon me as a friend.
My first boyfriend in college was a Missouri Synod Lutheran who was a member of the Campus Crusade for Christ. I wanted a specifically Christian boyfriend. For some reason, it never occurred to me that “Mr. Right” might have a conflict being gay and being a Missouri Synod Lutheran and a member of Campus Crusade! I talked him into going to a service with me, at my very high Episcopal church which had a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (I like the idea of praying to female deity!). That was too much for “Mr. Right”, who condemned me as a “Papist” and a “heretic” and dumped me in order to save his soul. In retrospect, I think he did me a favor.
In college, I did a minor in religious studies which opened my eyes to world religions; and taught me the techniques of exegesis and hermeneutics as applied to the Christian Scriptures. It started the process of undoing the damage done by Calvinism; and I could see my church of my childhood was a cult. The best thing I got from these courses was seeing that there is good in ALL the world religions, which serve as pathways to God. The religions are for OUR benefit: they do not benefit God at all. If I had done this 30 years later, I would probably have become an ELCA pastor or an Episcopal priest. As it was, I did eventuality become an Episcopal deacon.
Fast forward 50 years : that United Methodist church I attended now fully accepts its gay members and has recently voted to stay with the United Methodist Church as the UMC wrestles with the problem of gays in its denomination. I’m glad that church came around. I’m the case of my four friends, it’s too late: save for a marriage or a funeral, they’re not going to set foot in a church. My American Baptist best friend is the same way: decidedly anti-religious. Honestly, I don’t blame any of them. The Church let them down.
My family of origin still attends that Calvinist church. My partner and I do share holiday dinners with them we are not allowed to sleep in the same bedroom (after 33 years!) nor are we allowed to offer a blessing for the meal, even though I’m an ordained deacon because Calvinists do not recognize Episcopalians as being “sufficiently Christian”.
I used to hope my family of origin would come around and accept my faith and my partner. I now know that’s not going to happen, and it will never happen. I accept myself; I’m happy in my faith and my relationship. That’s enough for me, and I’m good with that.

2023.03.30 01:15 LifeLiterate My AMD Ryzen 5 3600X regularly breaks 100c in temp (212 degrees Fahrenheit) when rendering 512x512 images using AUTO1111. What kind of long term effects on my processor/GPU might I see if I keep going at these temps? Is there an upgrade I can/should focus on short-term before building my new PC?
Current PC build is around 7 years old. I've been ready to build a new one for awhile but a financial setback has me waiting to pull the trigger, so I need this one to last me a little while longer.
Windows 10, 64bit
Geforce GTX 1070 8gb
Thermaltake open-air case with Thermaltake processor fan and 4 case fans (air-cooled)
Proc idles around 85c (jumps up to ~95 to 100c when rendering) GPU idles around 50c (jumps up to ~65 to 75c when rendering)
I've been using AUTO1111 pretty steadily for the last several months, and I'm rendering a couple thousand images a day several days a week, upscaling maybe 50 or 60 a day.

2023.03.30 01:14 ahammouda Many people confuse timidness with introversion
I often come across posts from people seeking advice on how to meet new people, but struggling to do so because they are introverts.
Although there may be some overlap between timidness and introversion, they are not the same thing. Timidness refers to a mild lack of self-confidence or assertiveness, which can make it difficult for individuals to speak up or express their opinions. They may also avoid social situations or interactions that make them feel uncomfortable or vulnerable.
On the other hand, introversion is characterized by a preference for solitude or quiet reflection. Introverted individuals tend to be more focused on their inner thoughts and feelings than on external stimuli or social interactions. They may enjoy spending time alone or in small groups, and may find large gatherings or loud environments draining or overwhelming, which can lead to social anxiety.
While both types may struggle with managing and maintaining relationships with their communities, introverts may not be as self-aware as timid individuals, which can make it harder for them to integrate socially.
My wife is actually an introvert, and she is not intimidated by the outside world or people - in fact, she hates it. She is a great person but often misunderstood because she can come off as rude or unemphatic, which is not the case. She simply doesn't care much about people.

2023.03.30 01:14 StepwiseUndrape574 Watch GTA 5 Morph Into A Photorealistic Sim With Machine Learning Sorcery From Intel
Some people are concerned about games like GTA 5 affecting peoples' behavior in real life, but what if those games actually looked like real life? Researchers at Intel Labs may have figured out how to do just that using machine learning to make rendered footage look photorealistic. This technology could just bring gaming into a new era if it is used in the wild.
Since the dawn of video games, people have been trying to make them as realistic as possible to achieve the most immersive experience. PC and console hardware has grown over time as well, which nicely complements this goal. Take, for example, the Tomb Raider games, the original of which looks to us more like a Cubism art piece versus what we have now. It seems that things have somewhat stagnated, though, as Moore’s Law can only take you so far on hardware, and the equivalent law in software can only go so far as well. However, Intel Labs researchers may have found a way to circumvent any traditional notion of what a game looks like by using machine learning techniques.
lara croft gta v looks like real life with machine learning techniques from intel labs Tomb Raider I Released In 1996
The Intel Labs team’s project abstract describes how they can enhance synthetic images through a convolutional network, which is a type of deep neural network. This neural network was trained using the rendered images from the game alongside intermediate rendering buffers (G-Buffers), which “provide information on the geometry, materials, and lighting in the scene.” The G-Buffered are processed and used as input for the image enhancement network “where they are used to modulate image features.” While there is a lot more that goes into it, this work culminates in the footage you see below from GTA 5.
Play
If we did not know it was from GTA 5, it would be hard to tell that it was not real. Of course, some minor issues appear, such as license plates becoming a blurry mess, but that pales compared to the rest of the video. Besides, are you looking at license plates while driving around in GTA? In any case, this sort of technology is wild, and we cannot wait to see where it goes. If you are as excited as we are, let us know what you think about it in the comments below.

2023.03.30 01:14 SingAndDrive For those finding themselves needing to retake and traditional bar prep did not work
This post is for bar exam retakers who finds themselves needing more than the standard, cookie-cutter bar prep that companies offer. I know I needed something different to try because I did not retain enough law using a traditional bar prep program for the J22 exam. I passed in F23, going from a 258 to a 284, in a 272 jurisdiction. This not an all inclusive list, but it hits on most of my heavily used tools. If you are stuck, these things may help you. I want to see everyone pass, and I created this post as a way that I can pay it forward because I have found a lot of support and comfort from all of you during these last 12 months of studying.
First, I did NOT practice writing MEES or MPTs at all - none! If you can IRAC, CRAC, or RAC, you don't need to write them out. This wastes valuable study time. You only need to master the rules as best as you can. If you've got the rule, then you've got an answer. It's as simple as that. Study ALL rules not just the highly tested rules because the NCBE is testing rarely tested rules now, i.e. constructive adverse possession, testamentary capacity, etc. These topics appeared only 2-4 times across all prior exams. You need to know these less frequently tested rules. JD Advising has a one-page FREE MPT template guide for the most frequently tested tasks. I thought it was a little helpful.
Video lectures - are a big waste of time. If you don't understand a subject/topic, then watch a video, but speed it up to 1.25 or 1.5x to cut down on how much time you need to spend to get what you need to know. Limited time to study is your enemy. Use it wisely. Studicata and JD Advising have a lot of free video lectures on YouTube. You don't need to pay Themis, Barbri, etc. when you can get most everything for free.
Issue spotting - this is IMPORTANT and where I struggled in J22. Best thing I did was review every MEE & MPT in the NCBE BarNow "Everything Pack" including each of the grader's point sheets. Seeing what issues the bar examiners want from certain prompts and how topics are tested is PRICELESS. I reviewed them all, not once but TWICE. This study aid cost me on sale $125, but I think it is now $145. Totally worth it!! This is GOLD. (You will also get about 625 licensed questions in the pack and a game to play to see how many in a row that you can answer correctly).
I will say that I lived and breathed out of my SmartBarPrep skinny outline ($124). I could eventually memorize where something was on a page and what the rule 'looked' like. I don't have a photographic memory but it's something that can be developed to be able to recall what the rule 'looked' like and somehow the elements just got easier to recall. You can retain what's in a 100 page outline, not what's in a 500 page outline.
I found this video about 6 weeks before I took the exam. I listened to this guy's advice (he has taken 30 bar exams and passed), and it increased my practice MBE % correct by 5% instantly if you apply his strategy. This was VERY valuable to me.
https://youtu.be/bITXRay12D8 I would watch some more of ReedBarReview videos, all the free stuff, because each one gives you something you may be able to use in other parts of the test or for the MBE because he has memory aids that help with hearsay, relevant evidence, strict products liability, and more.
I also watched the free portion of the Studicata Bar Exam Refresher and all other free video courses he offers. I especially liked his 5 MEE explainer videos that you can watch for free on YouTube. These are GOLD!
You also need to be doing active learning not something passive to engage and retain the rules (reading an outline will not work, watching videos isn't really active learning either). Make your own memory aids for rules that just won't stick in your brain. You WILL remember the elements by doing this for those rules. For example, "I ParKed my car at the MAll by the FRESH Azaleas but FORGOT to READ ONLY for Extra credit." Bizarre, right? Yes, but I still remember the hearsay exception for past recollection recorded because of this. It's all embedded in the sentence. (The witness had Personal Knowledge, the writing was M-ade of A-dopted by the witness, while it was FRESH in the witness's mind, it was A-ccurate, but the witness FORGOT/cannot remember well enough to testify, and it can be READ into evidence but can ONLY be offered as an E-xhibit if offered by the adverse party.)
Write the rules neatly as you can by hand, MANY times, but don't do this while distracted by other things. Be present and focused. I actually did a screen share recording of my writing of the videos with my Remarkable2 and recorded that using VIMEO so I could play back the videos as a way to give myself reinforcement of what I just wrote out. Here's a link to one of them.
https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/769242129/824f66f62c If you want to watch it faster, then speed up the videos to 2x. There is no audio in the video.
BarPrepHero's $99 unlicensed MBE question bank. I bought these to have fresh questions to answer once I used up every licensed question I had available to me. I was having diminishing returns on the licensed questions I had taken more than once. This tool has more thorough explanations supported by specific case law that goes beyond what I've seen in any of the licensed questions. I did about 600 questions on that.
Brainscape's MBE Certified Flash Cards. These were helpful and very low cost. I ran through them several times. I also created my own Brainscape cards for MEE subjects. Again, because I made my own, it was an active studying activity. Here's a set of flashcards that I made for Wills, Trusts & Estates that are free to you to use.
https://www.brainscape.com/p/4OWOK-LH-CIS85 Bar exam anxiety - This has to be controlled or you will go off the rails on the exam. I got completely overwhelmed in J22 and really messed up in a panic on the MEEs. In F23, I used a breathing exercise. I used 4-square breathing at the beginning of each session as they were reading the instructions before we could open our books. It's a 4-count breathing exercise. Breathe in and count to 4, HOLD for a count of 4, breathe out for a count of 4, and then count to 4 before breathing in again. Repeat until you feel your anxiety starting to ease. It helped me tremendously.
If this helps you get into the passing zone, please send me a chat to let me know. I want to hear about your success and congratulate you personally.

2023.03.30 01:14 RoombaReaps Accidental Soccer Ball REVENGE
I went to a lot of schools growing up, one every few years.
This one in particular was pretty eventful, even a case of Mistaken Identity but that's a different story.
I was often targeted for bullying and all that jazz, and for some reason this one girl in particular put down every girl around. Always bragging about her fake hoop earrings being real gold when they're not (she got attacked because of that lie, someone wanted to steal them out of her ears). Regularly sitting on people (after pushing them down to the ground) because, quote, "I have a fat ass, feel how fat it is!" note: she was pretty skinny and this was middle school.
This story starts in the Girls Locker Room, we were just finished with gym class and my locker was a small one near the floor so I had to kneel down to grab my things so I could change. As per the usual, this girl was rough housing with another girl, they were pushing each other around for some reason I didn't care to listen to. I often kept my nose out of other's business. But this time it became my business as the girl she shoved landed on me with her full weight, and my jaw/neck landed RIGHT onto the mechanism that sticks up out of the locker door hard enough to bleed and bruise immediately.
I reacted in shock from the sudden pain, stood up and ran out of the now quite locker room to get help from the pain I felt strong enough to draw tears from my eyes. I could feel the blood dripping down my neck when the gym teacher asked what happened.
I get patched up, and the next day what does this girl do?
While talking with her two friends, she pointed at me as I walked by and stated "See that girl? I punched her and she didn't do sh*t about it!"
Please bear in mind at this time I was in karate/self defense classes, but was also in anger management classes, I know how I would've realistically reacted to actually getting punched/attacked so her statement pissed me off. I was debating what to do about it but couldn't think of anything that wouldn't backlash. That day in gym we were all out on the field playing soccer and I was WAY out in the field. At the end, I decided not to carry the ball just because. So I kicked that ball as hard as I could, it had a nice curve that landed RIGHT on her butt! Everyone could hear the sound of impact in the field.
She screamed, turned around and yelled to know who did it. I just ignored her and kept walking, trying so hard to not smirk.
For the rest of that week she couldn't sit and needed one of those inflatable butt pillows/seats. I felt that was revenge enough.

2023.03.30 01:14 LabyrinthsandLayers Toileting Accidents at preschool but not at home. What's going on?
My three year old twins are basically potty trained. Other than the occasional reminder (if they are absorbed in something) they will take themselves off to the potty, do their business and wipe themselves up (unless its a poo or they ask for help) and pull everything back up so they're dressed. They will wake up in the morning and do this themselves first thing without promoting and change into knickers (they wear night time nappy pants for sleep) all by themselves. I am extremely proud of them.
The issue, is that they don't seem to do this a preschool. They keep coming home in the changes if clothes we send with them (just in case, or for messy or wet play). The last straw was that today they both went through the two changes of clothes (EACH!), came home in preschool's 'spare' clothes, and the preschool staff have taken it upon themselves to mention to me about 'another' accident. They even sent them home in nappies today! (Which my girls were upset about as they feel they are 'big girls now' and 'nappies are for babies'. Which I feel is fair enough, they are big girls and don't need to be, nor should they be, in nappies!)
My girls go to their Grandparents fairly often and they also assure me that toileting is not an issue and they don't have accidents there.
So what do I do to resolve this?! I've informed preschool this doesn't happen at home, I've double checked and it doesn't happen at their Grandparents, I send spare clothes in in case (but they shouldn't really need to be used) and remind my girls every preschool day to remember to ask for the potty or toilet.
Am I wrong in thinking this is a preschool issue? They seem to be the common denominator here. I'm considering writing an email expressing my concern?

2023.03.30 01:13 EquivalentArticle245 Girl [23F] I’m [23M] seeing constantly telling me about the attention she gets from other guys, I’m not sure if I’m being overly jealous about it.
I started seeing this girl about two months ago, she’s incredibly incredibly attractive, I’ve been told I’m a very attractive guy too. We are very smitten with one another, and everything is perfect with us and how we share our feelings with one another, and we are kind of exclusive, we’ve both said we want to be in one way or another but haven’t yet done it properly. She’s been travelling the past month while I’ve been working myself to death, which makes things a bit difficult.
The only problem I have is that she does tend to tell me quite often how many guys are into her. It started on one phone call a couple weeks back where she told me that this guy we used to work with really liked her and how she was his favourite and always winked at her, then she went on about two more guys in the same way. I thought it was a bit much and kinda irrelevant I guess but I didn’t make a scene, I just laughed it off with her without expecting it to be a daily thing. While she’s been travelling she always tells me about guys that have tried to flirt with her, for example this guy in her room who kept asking to take her for a drink and saying how perfect she was, and these other two guys who kept begging her to come out with them, and then these other guys who were the same. She also sent me a video of her wearing a sticker saying “single let’s mingle” with a caption saying “where are the taken stickers when you need them” - I found it weird too because it’s a bit like she’s giving me a bone, but also hitting me on the head with it. And finally last night she sent a video detailing how every boy she walked past on her night out was trying to talk to her and flirt with her, and went on to say the compliments she was getting from them, she did however say she swerved them all and didn’t wanna talk to any of them. I replied to the video saying “that’s cute, I appreciate the thought but it does make me jealous to hear about that kind of stuff all the time” and we had a nice conversation about it where she basically said it wouldn’t bother her the other way around but that she felt bad and so on and that she thinks she might’ve said too much.
She’s a oversharer in all aspects of conversations but I feel as though she’s overdoing it a bit, I’m not sure. I’m genuinely not the jealous type, with my ex I never had any of these feelings, and I’m normally not an insecure person and generally very confident but these last few weeks I have been feeling quite insecure about it all.
On from that, I have depression and anxiety and I think it’s starting to push out through those. When I’m having a difficult time I think it inflates these situations. It’s difficult when I’m just working and going to the gym and she’s out having the time of her life getting all this attention. The thing is I don’t want to look insecure, and I do appreciate her being interested in me and telling me how she didn’t care for any of them. I’m not sure, I think from my perspective I avoid telling her about the attention I get from girls as I just don’t care about the attention I get, I am only interested in her so it kinda just isn’t a big part of my night.
I’m stuck between thinking maybe she’s trying to make me jealous, or maybe she likes the attention a little too much, or that I’m just completely drunk on jealousy.
TL;DR:
Girl I’m seeing gets a lot of attention from guys, but I feel she might be unnecessarily telling me sometimes to make me jealous. I’m unsure whether I’m just being jealous of if it’s normal to feel this way.
