Hi ā asking this question for a friend. TIA for any insight.
Background: friend was in a band for a few gigs at a restaurant and volunteered to be the 1099-NEC tax form person. Heās a nice person and should not have volunteered for this, but thatās what happened. This band did a series of gigs at this restaurant. One of the other band crew was the one who actually received checks from the restaurant and would give the rest of the band (including my friend) payments in cash. My friend is no longer in the band. He now has this 1099-NEC for these gigs for approx $8500 income. He only ever got $600-700 of that income. The tax owed is ~$2000. He has contacted the rest of the band about getting their share of taxes owed, but Iām afraid that they might not pay him.
Question: is there any recourse for him to not claim that whole amount as his income?
My gut reaction is that heās saddled with the tax responsibility. Perhaps the former band mates will prove to be nice humans and will pay him their owed shared, but I just have a feeling that heās gonna end up screwed. The band mate who was getting the checks refused to provide the restaurant with his info for the 1099-NEC once my friend was no longer with the band. So thatās partially where my lack of confidence in the band crew is coming from.

Some details:
- This is an action sci-fi/fantasy comic, so I would obviously prefer to hire an artist whoās experienced with that style and can draw aesthetically pleasing characters, action sequences, etc.
- Target audience is teenagers/young adults, but the story is riddled with some intellectually mature themes (no sexuality/nudity, or blood (in-story explanation) though).
- My current goal is to collaborate on a few chapters (20-60 pages) for WEBTOON canvas, and make more in batches until it gets picked up as an original. Iām not expecting to make much money myself unless the work becomes very popular (the goal), until then, my focus is on spreading knowledge of my IP without bleeding money forever. (Iāve considered pitching to Image Comics first, but Iām not sure thatās a good idea).
- If it becomes an Original and is popular enough to make significant money, I would obviously offer some kind of bonus pay and try to incentivize you to stick around as long as you can, since the entire work is very long.
- Iāve already written extremely detailed outlines of every volume in the series and completed scripts (in Final Draft) for the first two volumes, which are about 300 pages long each.
- I donāt need any help with the storyline or characters, and Iāve finalized designs and made AI prototype renders of characters and locations to make the design process easier. (We can figure out this part together business-wise for the final design fees).
- If we agree that itās a good fit, I would expect you to sign an NDA/work-for-hire agreement before we begin.
- I am based in America, but totally willing to collab with a foreign artist (conversion rate might be particularly favorable for you, but idk).

My friend used to work at Home Depot. He worked in Security. A few months ago, he got injured at work because of a customer whoās trying to shoplift, then the police arrived and called 911. And he was transported to the hospital via the ambulance. He was left with the medical bills. He told me that Home Depot didnāt pay for his medical bills, They also fired him a couple of days later. He believed he was fired because Home Depot doesnāt want to pay for his medical bills & he mentioned something about āliabilityā issues. They did pay him for the days he wasnāt able to go to work because he was in the hospital. He also didnāt have health insurance at the time and now heās thousands of dollars in debt from the medical bills due to injury that happened while at work. Losing the job also put him in a bad financial situation.

Im 50 and my financial advisor confirms I have the funds to retire. But i still need medical coverage for myself and my family. I asked my company if I could pay to stay on their program, but they don't offer that option, other than 18 months of cobra. My advisor gave me a list of the private companies offering health plans in my state, and you could count them on two fingers. And they dont look great. Are those really the only two choices? Am I missing some other option? If anyone here is is in a similar situation, what did you do? Thanks

I reached out to DePaul admissions prior to my application being sent out. I was told I was a shoe in for their $127k scholly because my gpa and lsat was above both their 75ths. I genuinely was really invested in DePaul as they have a dual degree program I want and as part of it, they send their students to Spain for international moot court. DePaul was one of my top choice schools and I made that clear in my application essay.
I get in with a low scholarship. Okay. Whatever, Iāll still pay a little bit extra. I call and email to discuss scholarship negotiations. I never get an email response and theres no answers to my questions when I call the phone number they gave me. A few weeks later I get a letter saying they donāt negotiate scholarships. Itās addressed to the wrong name. (At least they got the name right on the envelope!)
I get a couple automated emails. Theyāre all addressed to . I make a few more phone calls asking about dual degree programs. No one has answers to any of my questions. I ask about travel stipends and get no response. More automated emails addressed to prefix, last name about how I can call or email any time with questions.
Genuinely confused about so many things with DePaul. I got a couple better offers from schools without Spain. I sent my withdrawal today.

Has anyone else had an influx of customers ordering a VSCCB and then getting yelled at because thereās no foam? Idk if itās new baristas just getting the recipe wrong or what. They order a cold brew expecting it to either be built like the salted caramel cold brew, or the vanilla SC cold brew built like normal but with foam on top by default. I was so close to whipping out a recipe card the other day because I had 4 different people argue with me about the recipe since they clearly know my job better than I do.

So my dj from our wedding this past Saturday said her van was damaged when she was backing it up. She said one of my guests was directing her but didnāt see a group of trees she was going to hit and it dented her van. It says in the contract that I have to cover any damages done to her or her property if done while working at the venue. But I have no proof that this actually happened at the venue.
