I quit my first job due to me doing all the work after coming back from vacation, it was pretty decent nothing to complain. I was jobless for a couple months, then I found a job pretty close by where I live. It was one of my favorite local restaurants that was opening a new location. I met one of the “owners”( wish he calls himself) seemed pretty nice at first. He wasn’t there for the beginning months but suddenly he decided to take over that location. He managed to make one of the workers to quit in the middle of a rush due to him not doing it his way. After that incident I had a bad feeling things were only going to get worse. Couples weeks pass by and I notice that he makes racist comments about Mexicans every now and then which bothered me, since I’m Latino. Starts talking about a worker how he never brushes he’s teeth or takes a shower. He states “ all he does is jerk off when he gets home” and does the hand gesture. I decide to put in my 2 weeks, and leave on a Friday. He tell me on my last day that it’s so sudden and I said that I can work on Saturday and Sunday. I never dated that but I told him I had training for my new job which he understands. Fast forward to today, I’m working at an amazing job that values me more. Such a healthy environment that I’m not used to yet. So many good benefits and everyone is extremely nice. We consider each other as family.

Before this point we had already talked about marriage and even gone out to look at engagement rings.
I’m almost 3 months pregnant when Jake decided he’s going to propose to me. At his dads house. When I look like I just rolled out of bed. I imagined getting the most romantic proposal with me dressed and looking cute and that’s not what I got at all. It was the worst proposal and I was very upset with the way he went about it but I said yes anyway.
We had been living with his dad for a while and finally gotten our own apartment. Everything seems to be going great. Until we go to the hospital for the delivery. Jake came with me and supported me while I pushed. The problem came when the nurses took our son to the nursery and then proceeded to admit him into the NICU because he was having problems breathing. We visited him once as a couple and then Jake told me that he wouldn’t visit our son again because it was too painful for him to see him hooked up to all the machines. He then proceeded to ask me everyday for the next four days we were there, if he could go home and play video games with his friends because this was taking longer than he thought. Jake would return every night to sleep on the tiny hospital couch and ask if he could leave in the morning to again go home and play video games.
We finally are able to bring our son home on oxygen and I proceed to be a single mother except for the few times I asked him to babysit while I slept in a little longer or when I needed to take a shower. Jake seemed to begrudge even doing those small things saying it’s a mothers job to take care of the children.
This all takes a tragic turn 3 months later when at 6:00am I have 15 policeman kicking down my door wanting Jake. What proceeded will forever be the worst day of my life and I won’t share the details from that day. He was put in jail and then prison on several 1st 2nd and 3rd degree felony charges for pedophilia. Suffice it to say I was deeply shocked. I found out that he had been grooming my 13 year old sister but hadn’t done anything YET. He’s been gone since our son was 3 months old and now he’s 2 1/2. I tried to support Jake through this whole thing because I loved him but it’s been hell. Everyday waking up knowing I was causing my sister pain by staying with this man, and from the pure stress and depression that comes with being a new mother, it was too much.

I will preface by stating I dont believe GW wants to end such a profitable IP - but as a firm believer that the ending to a setting game just validates and justifies the beauty we all see in the story, and inspired by the lions return - I feel like we have a fairly possible, if far away, pathway (but no timeline) to the end times.
Magnus returns. Throwing my theory off a bit here.
Mortation returns in model form! Guilliman returns to challenge him! Emperors sword in hand. Necrons awake.
Angron returns! (Did this predate Guilliman? Im unsure) Now the Lion returns to challenge him. Emperors shield holding back the tides of chaos. Tyranids threaten the galaxy.
It seems we will be seeing a daemon primarch return and threaten the galaxy, to a backdrop of a universal scale threat eg. The tyranids in 10th. Come 11th itll be a different daemon primarch, then a loyalist to match him! I suspect each primarch will bear some of the Emperors divine regalia, somehow relevant to their role in the imperium or to their character.
A different threat, from a different race.
How will it all come together? Im not sure. But I have my theories.
Daemon Primarch - I suspect Magnus might fill this role. Loyalist return being Russ. Wolf out time. Emperors regalia: Im unsure. Emperors spear? Or Emperors nice hat? Galaxy threat - also unsure, whats thematic?
Daemon Primarch - Lorgar Loyalist: Vulkan Purely because they are the last two left without clear match ups. Wargear: A flag or banner of some kind maybe. Or a pistol or wrist gun maybe. Did the emperor have a flamer or big hammer? Threat: Orcs? Vulkan hates orcs right?
Daemon : Fulgrim Loyalist : Khan is back. They test the khans long held theory about the better swordsman. Threat: Dark Eldar offensive Wargear?
Daemon: We are going to see Peturbo return and almost certainly face off against ... Loyalist: Dorn for the rematch of the century and Iron Cage 2 with Dorn learning from his mistakes. Likely weilding the emperors power fist in lieu of his missing hand. Threat: Im thinking Tau, ethreals, not sure why. Maybe admec. I think this will be the last edition before the end times.

All the primarchs probably work together to improve the golden throne, bring the emperor back - or finally strike him down (he becomes more powerful than you can ever know Darth) wherein he returns and smites daddydon off the face of terra.
Or chaos wins and smite him, and the loyalists arrive in time to see him reborn as a warp god and battles the chaos gods eternally?
Just some thoughts anyway. Please add any relevant details / poke holes in my theory at your leisure.

2023.03.30 01:32 Belatorius Hail storm at work, several cars were deemed as "totaled", my inspection is this Friday and im expecting the same results. Curious about options
My question is should I drive the car into the ground or new car? Only reason a new car is an option would be that the 6-7k would probably be the most cash id get for the car. 2015 kia rio LX hatch back 90k miles, been paid off for the last 6 years, 8 years of having it. Cosmetically its gross. Looks like someone took a ball peen hammer to it but mechanically its great.
If they offer 6-7k for it and I put 10k down on something like a Toyota corolla, Id be left with maybe 9-11k car loan. I make about 60-65k a year and have about 60k in cash on hand with 777-780 credit. Yet my savings has been rather stagnant so no telling how long it would take to replace the 10k down payment. Not to mention the increase in insurance.
Or it turns into a "beater" car and I do my best to get another 100k out of it? Its been well taken care of and have yet had a major repair, but be worth much less as trade in in the future. I work 15 days out of the month driving 85 miles round trip, all interstate mileage.

2023.03.30 01:32 throwradad9999 Update: My (50m) Daughter (24f) just moved back in after an abusive relationship and she's been wanting to be uncomfortably close to me.
Ok. So I got some great advice, and I figured I would give everyone an update and clarify a few things because it will come into play.
I know I said this in the comments, but I will reiterate here. When I picked her up I saw that she was underweight and had bruises on her face and neck. Clearly strangulation marks on her neck and she had been punched in the face. I immediately took her to a walk in clinic. I wanted her checked for head trauma, I wanted to make sure she was ok, no broken bones or head traumas etc, I wanted DRs advice on getting her back up to a healthy weight (Which foods to eat which to avoid refeeding syndrome etc) The DR told me her BMI was 15. Not good but not requiring immediate hospitalizations or anything that would be 12 and under. I also wanted all of her injuries documented. I also got pictures. the DR gave me advice on how best to get her up to weight without her feeling sick. I asked my daughter if she wanted to file a police report and press charges. I wanted this she did not. I didnt push it but I kept the medical records from the Drs visit.
I got her home and for the first week I was careful about what I was feeding her and how much so we could get her healthy again without making her sick. I feel bad about it now because after I put my original post up my daughter opened up to me about what he did and put her through. One of the things he would do is watch what she was eating and how much. He would constantly warn her about "getting fat and not being attractive anymore" I now feel a bit bad because when she got home, I too was monitoring what she was eating at first. I know its for different reasons, but it still makes me feel bad.
Anyways on to the update part of things. She did finally write down everything that he did to her. I tool a copy of this and put it with her medical files in case she ever decided to press charges later. I took her to her therapist's appointment, and he recommended what many of you did a specialist. He had the name of a domestic abuse specialist who was also a woman. We are keeping him on for me and as counseling for the two of us. I try to be a good father but there were cracks in our relationship he was able to exploit to turn her against me. There were things I did wrong after my wifes death and things we need to address and also to just get help with helping her recover. Shes now seeing a domestic abuse specialist.
As for the sleep thing well, I had a talk with her and the therapist about it and we came up with a plan utilizing many of the recommendations mentioned on the last thread and we are all comfortable with the solution we have come up with. I don't want to get to much into what he did to her. Thats her story to tell. But he did utilize sleep deprivation, she told me he would make these "jokes" about how easy it would be for him to kill her in her sleep. he would joke like this all the time and then laugh about it. She repeatedly asked him to stop but he didn't. I only mention it because people mentioned he might have done things to make her scared to sleep and well that was...one of them. I don't want to repeat the others. Those are too personal.
I took a leave of absence from work so I could be home with her. I prepared my weapons and got a ring cam to monitor the door. he did not give up on her easily. While she had blocked his number and social media profiles, he would repeatedly create false profiles or use burner phones to continue to harass her. At one point i did take the phone from her when he had called her and told him not to show up here or i would...well you know. That was not enough. About 2 weeks after this post went up he showed up. I saw him on the ring cam I had installed and called the police to have him removed. I told him from the door to leave and if he walked inside, it would be the last thing he ever did. Instead, the police cam and removed him. But they did little else but get rid of him. Without a protective order or my daughter filing domestic abuse charges the most they could really do was tell him to get off my lawn basically.
This was the wake up call my daughter needed though. She decided to press charges after he showed up. I retained a lawyer to help us through this. I gave the lawyer the advice I had accumulated, and he spoke to the DA and police and helped have the charges filed, and the restraining order issued honestly, I'm not sure what went on there, but people let me tell you, Lawyers are your friend if you need to navigate *ANYTHING* in the legal system, even if you are not a defendant.
So that brings us too now. We're moving forward in the legal system now to press charges. We have a protective order; she's recovered more or less physically but emotionally it's going to be a while. I'm in therapy, shes in therapy and we're in therapy together (Yes lets of therapy). She is sleeping in her own bed when she feels up to it but she still has nightmares and nights where she feels comforted to be close to me. We are comfortable with the arrangements we've made here and have drawn up a plan with her her therapist to get her back into her own room and bed.
I feel bad about the feeding no. I had monitored her food intake before I knew he had been watching how she ate like that. I also feel like I failed to prepare her for someone like that.

The group immediately started to move towards where the location was at. They closed up the map and made their way over, all the while Satsuko pointed out various attractions, booths, and games he showed interest in. But as much he begged to try them out, the group wanted to focus on getting to their destination.
The route to the house didn’t take long, arriving at a big and tall building that looked old and unsturdy. It was painted in colors of black and dark purple, resembling an old western house. Above the house was a dark thundercloud that simply floated above, looking as though it would rain down any given moment, or strike the ground with thunder and electricity.
“Well, it definitely looks like a haunted house.” Sumireko said. “But it kinda looks like something that my old high school would make for Halloween.”
She pointed to the yard of the house, which was filled with cardboard cutouts of spooky ghosts, rickety signs with red paint written on them, and a poor attempt at creating a corpse using a mannequin and toilet paper.
"Looks like someone ran out of budget for the outside decorations. Heh." Mary said, examining one of the cutouts."
Suddenly, music that sounded like the kind belonging to the public domain began to play, and the sound of thunder cracked, while strobe lights flickered on and off. A voice of unknown origin started speaking in a deep and menacing voice.
“Muahahaha!!! Who dares arrive at the front of my domain!? You dare enter, you foolish humans!?”
“EEP!!!” Satsuko jumped from the voice, quickly grabbing onto Mary for safety.
“I am Dark Madness, the scourge of the gates of hell, the king of savage, the ruler of the anti-dimensions! Should you enter I assure you will face my wrath, you will cry for your parents to come pick you up after you wet yourselves!”
“Ahhh!! No! He sounds so scary!” Satsuko said.
“That’s scary???” The others thought.
“I can already tell you’re all shaking in your boots! As expected!!! I recommend you turn back around before you walk into your own graves! But if you heed my warning and enter regardless, then best of luck to you all… But not like you’re going to need it anyways since you’ll all be DEAD!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!”
The voice stopped and it became quiet. Satsuko was still shaking with tears while the others could only think about how odd the voice sounded.
“It almost sounded like they were using a voice filter.” Sumireko said. “Also, walk into our own graves? What kind of nonsensical script were they reading off of?”
“Well, we still need to go in and complete whatever challenge the host made for us.” Meiling said.
"Let's hope it's not as disappointing as this presentation." Mary said.
The group passed through a gate that indicated the entry, labeled with a somewhat poorly scribbled sign that said: "ENTER TO GET TERRIFIED"
"...so…dark." Satsuko muttered.
The door to the house looked as old as the rest. Sumireko reached to open the door when it opened up by itself, very, very slowly. In fact it was so slow that she got annoyed and pulled a Suika by kicking the door all the way open.
“If you’re going to open it by yourself, at least do it faster!” Sumireko shouted. The four then went inside the haunted house.
Inside was dark and hard to see due to lack of lighting. All they could see was a narrow hallway that went down a straight path, lined with various doors of different shapes and designs. They tried a few of the doors, but it was obvious they were fake after a quick attempt to open a few.
“Fake doors, oh wow, how scary.” Sumireko said with sarcasm. “Someone should take notes.”
“Well, I do have to agree with you on that.” Meiling said. “Though I feel like that’s because we all got out of a situation that was similar but more dire at the same time.”
They headed straight down the hall, reaching a corner that forced them to turn to their left. As soon as they all turned the corner something came out of the ceiling tile and fell in front of them. A few of them let out small gasps of fright, but only Satsuko shrieked in terror.
"W-what is that?!?" Satsuko asked.
It was a humanoid figure, a sack was over their head, their body was hung up by their neck with a rope. A red liquid looked to be dripping out from their fingertips, landing on the floor. At first glance it looked real, a sight to dread. But as they took a second look, it soon came to their realization that it was simply a mannequin covered in ketchup and lingering with a putrefact scent coming from it.
"It smells…really bad!" Meiling said. She carefully opened the jacket, revealing the nasty source: a piece of extremely decayed meat.
"Ugh! Get this off here!" Sumireko said, sealing her nostrils with two fingers.
“Ah, so you all have found one of my many victims? You must be petrified in horror. Maybe you all should turn around and leave before you end up exactly like this unlucky fellow.”
"Yeah, count on it" Mary said in a sarcastic tone. But before she could take a step further, she felt something tugging her dress. It was Satsuko, who was looking at her with a frightened expression, and teary eyes.
"I want to get out…Auntie…I'm so scared…" He said in a shaky tone.
“A…A…A-A-A-A-A–A-AUNTIE!!!!!????” Mary thought, her mind exploding with a flood of emotions. She certainly didn't expect that, and wouldn't particularly mind if it was another child, but to add insult to injury, it was her own wielder…in a regressed version of himself.
"Wait, i'm not your-"

Everyone didn’t know why dirty laundry would be considered scary in the slightest. Sure, it looked a little disturbing, but nothing that would exist in someone’s nightmares.
“Okay, let’s just keep moving.” Meiling said, pushing past the hanged corpse. Sumireko followed while Mary had to carry Satsuko with her due to the boy being too terrified to follow.
"Now that I think about it…I have a clue of how the so-called owner of this place is." Sumireko said.
They continued throughout the mansion, encountering more jumpscares and things that were supposed to be scary. They got things such as cold lunches, an F on a homework assignment, and a clothing store that had a sign next to it saying they’re forced to go shopping. Occasionally they got something that made them gasp or be startled when they saw it, such as a spike pit one of them almost fell into, a swinging axe, and a body bag leaking with maggots. But upon second glances it was revealed that the spike pit was made with pool noodles, the swinging axe was foam instead of metal and the body bag was actually a bunch of stuffing, and the maggots was cooked pasta.
On the other hand, Satsuko stuck his face on Mary's chest, trying to avoid seeing the things that the rest of the group considered not scary.
"I'm getting tired of this, honestly. Where is the exit?" Sumireko said.
“Maybe that door would lead us out of here.” Meiling pointed to a door that was close by. The door in particular however was covered with caution tape, fake locks, and several signs and warnings to not go in or face extreme consequences. That was without a doubt the door they needed to enter.
"Oh, you know what? Fuck this." Sumireko said, kicking the door down in frustration.
The door broke off its hinges, collapsing on the floor. The group walked into the apparent dark room, unable to see anything inside.
“Oh great, a dark room. I wonder what will be jumping out of the shadows this time?” Sumireko said with sarcasm. She walked forward, only to be genuinely startled by the sight of blue-colored flames igniting a meter away from her. “Oh geez! What in the!?” She shouted.
“Hahaha… Ahahahaha… AHAHAHAHAAAA!!!”
A large object appeared within the blue ring of fire, taking the form of a large skull with flames coming out of its eyesockets, snakes falling out of their mouth each time their jaw moved, and somehow was quite expressive. Sumireko, Meiling and Mary all sensed the figure being more threatening than what they believed. Satsuko only became more terrified, latching onto Mary with the grip of a bear.
“Welcome… To your doom!!! I am Dark Madness! I have come from a dimension where there only existed pain and agony. I was born with a terrifying curse that caused me to incinerate anyone who got close to me! You all should fear my power!!!”
Meiling stood in front of everyone else, getting into a defensive pose.
“Oh? What’s this? You dare challenge me? Surely you must not understand what I am capable of. I have conquered realms far more powerful than yours, defeated beasts of omnipotent force, harvested forbidden knowledge that added to my strength. You are but a fool if you think you stand a chance!”
Meiling kept her pose up, but it wavered as the skull continued to speak. She felt a lingering horror trailing down her spine, while the feeling of heat coming from the flames in front of her. The others were concerned on how to face this kind of threat, when Sumireko noticed something that stood out.
A green curtain that was over on the left side of the room. It wasn’t anything special, but its placement seemed quite off. She moved over to the curtain while the skull continued to speak. She reached over and pulled the curtain open, revealing a large machine, and a familiar looking figure standing by.
“You will all fall! You will all be destroyed once I use my-” The figure stopped, realizing something was wrong and turned around to face Sumireko. And her thoughts were correct, as it was another variant of Satsujin, except they were shorter and looked quite young, not as young as Satsuko, a bit older actually. His eyes were colored brown and gray respectively.
“I knew it.” Sumireko said, folding her arms.
The figure froze, unsure how to respond. They took the mic they were using to control the skull, and said. “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”
There was no response. The group continued to stare at him, with a disappointed expression, except for Satsuko.
"It was…fake?"
“Yep, it was.” Sumireko said. “And it’s all thanks to… whoever this person is.”
Realizing that their cover had been blown, the teenage Satsujin quickly got desperate, and started to speak in a peculiar way.
“So…You have all figured it out.” He said, a hand close to his face. “The skull was merely a diversion I made in order to make you all drop your guard. The real opponent you face is me…Sateen!!!” He said in an edgy manner.
The others stared blankly, including Satsuko who had no idea what he was talking about. Mary on the other hand started to laugh, while Meiling showed disappointment.
“Sateen?” Meiling asked. “What kind of name is Sateen?”
“Shut up! It’s a cool name! It fits my dark and tortured personality! You wouldn’t understand the life I had!” Sateen said in an edgy tone. “Anyways…If you want to defeat me… You’ll have to beat my challenge!”
“And what’s the challenge?”
“You’ll have to come up with the darkest and edgiest backstory you could think of! If you can beat me then I’ll give you what you want. If you lose… then you’ll be trapped in an ever-spiraling tunnel of life and death! You will feel your soul leak out only to be pulled back in over and over, with no hopes of escape!”
“...”
Everyone was quiet. They all thought that his idea for a challenge didn’t seem too hard, especially considering what most of them had already gone through within a span of less than a week.
“Oh, and I will personally judge you on how edgy your backstory is. If it isn’t edgy enough, then you fail the challenge.” He added. “Let’s have you start, China.” He pointed at Meiling.
Meiling felt triggered, almost wanting to bash the kid’s skull in for the nickname. But she held back knowing violence will not get them anywhere at this current moment.
“Very well… You wanna know my backstory… Well I shall tell then.” Meiling said with a smirk.
"No, I have a better idea. Let Sumireko say hers."
“Wait…What?” Meiling said, hearing the voice speak. Mary and Sumireko were also confused.
"I know some things about her that you don't. Let's just say she used to be like him as well."
They looked at Sumireko, as she started to look the other way. “Um…T-that was a long time ago. Besides, I’m an adult, I’ve outgrown that phase.” She said.
"Yeah, that's why I need you to act like a nerd again. You are the only one here who can speak his same language."
“Can’t I just…Not embarrass myself?”
“Someone is trying to deny her past... You can do this… Unleash your inner chuunibyou.”
Sumireko shook her head in denial.
"Let's raise the stakes higher. If you manage to convince him to give up, I'll give you a reward later."

Bearing no other choice, Sumireko stepped forward, lifting her cape and showing a small display of her psychic powers by lighting a large flame behind her. She formed a pose, raising her arm to draw near her face while resting her arm on the other hand.
“My name is Sumireko Usami! Queen of the Occult! The Master of Psychokinesis! The Dweller of Gensokyo and the Outside World! I have been born with these powers that only manifested around Middle School! Though my powers are great I struggle in holding back for I fear of harming others! I have faced monsters, deities, and creatures of many shapes and sizes! I have suffered through the fires of hell and the taste of direct magic! I survived an encounter with a phone call from Mary and avoided being crushed by falling earth! If you dare face me, then you will face the terrifying power of a former high school student!!!”
What she said sounded both intimidating and cheesy. Sumireko stood there in silence, everyone looked at her with surprised faces that looked like they had nothing to say, nothing to show. The Psychic girl herself started to blush upon realizing that what she just said sounded very stupid.
“Oh god…I sounded like an idiot!!! I knew this was a bad idea. Why did I go through with this? This is exactly why I outgrew this phase!” Sumireko thought.
“Wow…So…cool…” Sateen said, amazed by Sumireko’s pose and self-introduction. “To think that a woman of such power has existed… A goddess even.”
“...Eh?” Sumireko’s blush faded, replaced with a look of confusion.
“...But that’s not enough. You were close, amazing even. But you need something more in order to impress me.” Sateen said.
"And guess who is behind you…" A voice said behind Sateen.
"It's me, the one and only…Mary!!!" Mary said, doing a cool pose with her blade. “I have been crafted by a legend along with my brothers and sisters, only to have been forgotten. I have been used in the name of blood and vengeance, but also sadness and misery. I swore to protect the boy I love, even if I were to forsake myself and my life in his name.”
“Woah…That’s also cool.” Sateen said. “Not as cool as the other girl, but still.”
As if feeling like she didn’t want to be left out, Meiling also joined in the fray, taking one of her usual fighting poses. “My name is Hong Meiling! I am the gatekeeper of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, the loyal guard of Remilia and Flandre Scarlet, the friend of a time-stopping maid and a 1-week magician! I grew up in Ancient China where I trained in martial arts! I left in order to find my purpose in life, only to face obstacle after obstacle. Through blood, sweat and tears I broke through those obstacles, leaving behind a bloody past!”
“Cool…” Sateen was also impressed by Meiling. “You are all so cool.”
"…But I will never be like that…" Satsuteen said, lowering his head.
"I'm worth nothing."
The others looked at him with concerned faces. The off-voice proceeded to explain the situation.
"One of Satsujin's desires was to be worth something. Years of mental abuse led him to this constant cycle of apparenting to be something good…only to fail loudly at it. This led him to experience a deep depression, and altered his own way of being. He became bitter and pessimistic, always blaming himself for not being able to fight back. But he did enjoy the little things in life, like going to visit his grandmother, eating dinner with his young brother, or even something as simple as eating chocolates. This is the physical form of his teenhood."
“So that’s why he’s…” Sumireko paused mid-sentence, thinking about how it makes sense now.
Sateen looked like he was gloomy, brooding with his thoughts and expressions, staring down at the floor and his hands. But he clenched them into fists, looking back up at the others with a different look compared to before.
"...No…I can't keep being like this…I have to be better…better…" He said, with a bitter expression on his face. He opened one of his hands, and a weapon manifested around his grip. Long like a spear, but the blade was cured and one-sided, making it a more unique weapon. He swung it forward, taking a stance as though he was in the spotlight for the moment. “This is my Spear of Acies! A powerful weapon that was crafted using the horn of a Qiongqi, sculpted by the hands of Hades’ bare hands, designed by the unholy priestess of hell! It’s power has the ability to slice down mountains in half, obliterate the souls of even the purest of living creatures! Only I have the strength to wield such power, even if it drains me in the process and turn me into a hollow corpse! I shall use it to express myself, and show you all what I’m truly capable of!!!”
He leaped into the air, twirling the weapon so fast it formed a circle. He spun around three times in two different directions before he landed back on the ground. He dashed right forward towards the group, chanting his ultimate special attack.
“Titan’s Wrath “Destruction of the 83 Moons of Saturn”!!!!!”
But then out of nowhere, as he was a second away from unleashing his attack. His foot slipped on the ground, causing him to fall forward and splat right on the floor. His weapon flew out of his hands, landing only a few meters away from him and the group.
Mary reached for it, and after a quick inspection, she said:
"This spear looks like it was sharpened with stones. Do you actually know how to sharpen something like this?!? The edge is all messed up, cracked, rusty and…"
She looked at Sateen struggling to get up. Or rather, he wasn’t trying to. He was too focused on holding back his tears while the sound of his sniffling was picked up.
“Damn it… It was going to be… so cool.” He said while his voice cracked.
"So much effort…for nothing."
"Why?!?! Why does it have to be just me, the one who always gets the bad impression?!?"
Mary realized that he was actually hurt, torn even from the level of humiliation he received after all the build-up. The thought of going up to him and comfort him came into her mind almost immediately, call it maternal instinct even. However, Sumireko already beat her to the chase. The Psychic Girl walked over to Sateen, sitting next to him and quietly patted him on the shoulder.
“I know how it feels, kid.” She said. “We all have had our fair share of humiliation…But that’s only because the normos don’t know how awesome we really are. You may think you screwed up but in reality we were lucky that we didn’t get obliterated by your weapon of mass destruction.”
“...R-Really? You don’t think I’m a fool?” Sateen asked, glancing at Sumireko.
“Of course. From one Chuuni to another, we should have each other’s backs. Also, that attack name you came up with, that was such a cool name. You got any other cool moves like that?”
Sateen was shocked by many factors. But the two factors that mattered most were that 1. He had someone who could relate to him in his edginess. And 2. It was a girl of all people that was talking to him. A girl that is now taking a closer look, seems very pretty with those glasses, that short brown hair, that gentle and smooth skin. He quickly looked in the opposite direction, turning his entire body around.
“W-Well. I-I am glad that you are impressed by me. M-Most people would either cower in fear or tremble upon my might, but you happen to be one of the few who are able to withstand my intimidating aura.” Sateen said, internally he was panicking, thinking of what to say that could avoid him making a fool out of himself once more in front of such a beautiful girl.
Sumireko was a little confused on how he was acting now, but Mary knew better. She could tell how he was acting because Satsujin acted in a similar way once before with Mystia.
"I remember when Satsujin had an anxiety attack when he got his face revealed to his newmet friends. He was so scared that someone would make fun of his scarred face, but hopefully Mystia was there to calm him down." Mary said.
"And when she complimented him…he went red as a tomato. Heh…Good times."
Another minute later, Sateen felt better about himself thanks to the confidence boost from Sumireko. He stood back up, looking at everyone, including Satsuko and let out a deep sigh.
“You have all bested me… But that is only because I was using just 1% of my power!” He quickly added. “Because I know that you wouldn’t stand a chance against me if I didn’t hold back, I willingly accept defeat for now.”
As he said that, a small light glowed in the room everyone was in. Out popped into existence a small blue key with a red gem in the center, flying around until floating into Satsuko’s hands. Then it was followed up by random victory music.
“Congratulations! You have acquired one of the keys needed in order to unlock the entrance to the Tower of Reminiscence!”
“Wait, really? That’s all it took?” Meiling asked the voice.
"Yeah. Doing things not-violently is also a valid option."
“So, we just need to get the rest of the keys in order to go into the tower then?” Mary said.
“Looks like it.” Sumireko said. “I think the map said we had four locations, so if this is key number one, then we only need to get three more.”
"And as for me? It would be shameful for an omniscient entity like me to not fulfill their promises. Here's your reward."

A strange-looking fruit appeared in front of Sumireko, which was reminiscent of a prickly pear's fruit , with a red and yellow color gradient across it. The surface of the fruit had a few marks in the form of veins, and the center of it displayed a skin fold resembling a closed eye.
“A fruit?” Sumireko said.
“Not just any fruit. This fruit gives anyone who consumes it enhanced power. Those who have devoured the fruit have grown both in physical and mental strength."
"Trust me when I say you would wish these weren't endangered to the point of near extinction. They have a godly taste."
“...Okay.” Sumireko said, biting into the fruit without a moment of hesitation. “Hm…Tastes very sweet and smooth."
"So, how are you feeling?"

She did what the voice suggested. Looking over at Sateen, she concentrated with her mind a little, looking directly at him like how Satori would do it.
“Um…Why is she staring at me like that…Could it be that she has become impressed by my awesomeness? Maybe she wants to know more about my dark origin? No… Maybe it’s more than that!”
It worked, she was able to hear his thoughts. It sounded loud and clear as if he was actually speaking right now.
“No… Maybe she… in… with me… perhaps she would………”
But as she continued, her mind quickly turned foggy, and a mild headache ensued. She broke her connection with Sateen’s mind, shaking her head with slight fatigue.
“Ow… I guess I can’t do it for too long.” Sumireko said.
"The only problem is that you can do it on one person at once, but it's much better than having no control over it. And don't overdo it, or… you could cause yourself a thrombosis in the worst of cases."
After a moment to recover, Sumireko and the others decided to head to their next location. They pulled out the map, seeing one of the tokens that floated over the haunted house now gone, replaced with a little flag with a check mark instead.
"Please choose a new location to go. And no, no more effortless choices from now on, sorry."

“If you’re going to open it by yourself, at least do it faster!” Sumireko shouted. The four then went inside the haunted house.
Inside was dark and hard to see due to lack of lighting. All they could see was a narrow hallway that went down a straight path, lined with various doors of different shapes and designs. They tried a few of the doors, but it was obvious they were fake after a quick attempt to open a few.
“Fake doors, oh wow, how scary.” Sumireko said with sarcasm. “Someone should take notes.”
“Well, I do have to agree with you on that.” Meiling said. “Though I feel like that’s because we all got out of a situation that was similar but more dire at the same time.”
They headed straight down the hall, reaching a corner that forced them to turn to their left. As soon as they all turned the corner something came out of the ceiling tile and fell in front of them. A few of them let out small gasps of fright, but only Satsuko shrieked in terror.
"W-what is that?!?" Satsuko asked.
It was a humanoid figure, a sack was over their head, their body was hung up by their neck with a rope. A red liquid looked to be dripping out from their fingertips, landing on the floor. At first glance it looked real, a sight to dread. But as they took a second look, it soon came to their realization that it was simply a mannequin covered in ketchup and lingering with a putrefact scent coming from it.
"It smells…really bad!" Meiling said. She carefully opened the jacket, revealing the nasty source: a piece of extremely decayed meat.
"Ugh! Get this off here!" Sumireko said, sealing her nostrils with two fingers.
“Ah, so you all have found one of my many victims? You must be petrified in horror. Maybe you all should turn around and leave before you end up exactly like this unlucky fellow.”
"Yeah, count on it" Mary said in a sarcastic tone. But before she could take a step further, she felt something tugging her dress. It was Satsuko, who was looking at her with a frightened expression, and teary eyes.
"I want to get out…Auntie…I'm so scared…" He said in a shaky tone.
“A…A…A-A-A-A-A–A-AUNTIE!!!!!????” Mary thought, her mind exploding with a flood of emotions. She certainly didn't expect that, and wouldn't particularly mind if it was another child, but to add insult to injury, it was her own wielder…in a regressed version of himself.
"Wait, i'm not your-"
Another ceiling tile collapsed behind the others. Satsuko quickly hugged Mary even tighter than before, shrieking with terror. The others however, were displeased with what they witnessed falling.
It wasn’t another fake mannequin pretending to be a corpse, no. It was a pile of dirty laundry.
“Dirty…Laundry?” Sumireko said.
“Muahahaha! Feast your eyes on such a horrible sight! The fear that all of you must be feeling, the pain your minds bear from looking at the smelly socks, and shirts with holes in them!”
Everyone didn’t know why dirty laundry would be considered scary in the slightest. Sure, it looked a little disturbing, but nothing that would exist in someone’s nightmares.
“Okay, let’s just keep moving.” Meiling said, pushing past the hanged corpse. Sumireko followed while Mary had to carry Satsuko with her due to the boy being too terrified to follow.
"Now that I think about it…I have a clue of how the so-called owner of this place is." Sumireko said.
They continued throughout the mansion, encountering more jumpscares and things that were supposed to be scary. They got things such as cold lunches, an F on a homework assignment, and a clothing store that had a sign next to it saying they’re forced to go shopping. Occasionally they got something that made them gasp or be startled when they saw it, such as a spike pit one of them almost fell into, a swinging axe, and a body bag leaking with maggots. But upon second glances it was revealed that the spike pit was made with pool noodles, the swinging axe was foam instead of metal and the body bag was actually a bunch of stuffing, and the maggots was cooked pasta.
On the other hand, Satsuko stuck his face on Mary's chest, trying to avoid seeing the things that the rest of the group considered not scary.
"I'm getting tired of this, honestly. Where is the exit?" Sumireko said.
“Maybe that door would lead us out of here.” Meiling pointed to a door that was close by. The door in particular however was covered with caution tape, fake locks, and several signs and warnings to not go in or face extreme consequences. That was without a doubt the door they needed to enter.
"Oh, you know what? Fuck this." Sumireko said, kicking the door down in frustration.
The door broke off its hinges, collapsing on the floor. The group walked into the apparent dark room, unable to see anything inside.
“Oh great, a dark room. I wonder what will be jumping out of the shadows this time?” Sumireko said with sarcasm. She walked forward, only to be genuinely startled by the sight of blue-colored flames igniting a meter away from her. “Oh geez! What in the!?” She shouted.
“Hahaha… Ahahahaha… AHAHAHAHAAAA!!!”
A large object appeared within the blue ring of fire, taking the form of a large skull with flames coming out of its eyesockets, snakes falling out of their mouth each time their jaw moved, and somehow was quite expressive. Sumireko, Meiling and Mary all sensed the figure being more threatening than what they believed. Satsuko only became more terrified, latching onto Mary with the grip of a bear.
“Welcome… To your doom!!! I am Dark Madness! I have come from a dimension where there only existed pain and agony. I was born with a terrifying curse that caused me to incinerate anyone who got close to me! You all should fear my power!!!”
Meiling stood in front of everyone else, getting into a defensive pose.
“Oh? What’s this? You dare challenge me? Surely you must not understand what I am capable of. I have conquered realms far more powerful than yours, defeated beasts of omnipotent force, harvested forbidden knowledge that added to my strength. You are but a fool if you think you stand a chance!”
Meiling kept her pose up, but it wavered as the skull continued to speak. She felt a lingering horror trailing down her spine, while the feeling of heat coming from the flames in front of her. The others were concerned on how to face this kind of threat, when Sumireko noticed something that stood out.
A green curtain that was over on the left side of the room. It wasn’t anything special, but its placement seemed quite off. She moved over to the curtain while the skull continued to speak. She reached over and pulled the curtain open, revealing a large machine, and a familiar looking figure standing by.
“You will all fall! You will all be destroyed once I use my-” The figure stopped, realizing something was wrong and turned around to face Sumireko. And her thoughts were correct, as it was another variant of Satsujin, except they were shorter and looked quite young, not as young as Satsuko, a bit older actually. His eyes were colored brown and gray respectively.
“I knew it.” Sumireko said, folding her arms.
The figure froze, unsure how to respond. They took the mic they were using to control the skull, and said. “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”
There was no response. The group continued to stare at him, with a disappointed expression, except for Satsuko.
"It was…fake?"
“Yep, it was.” Sumireko said. “And it’s all thanks to… whoever this person is.”
Realizing that their cover had been blown, the teenage Satsujin quickly got desperate, and started to speak in a peculiar way.
“So…You have all figured it out.” He said, a hand close to his face. “The skull was merely a diversion I made in order to make you all drop your guard. The real opponent you face is me…Sateen!!!” He said in an edgy manner.
The others stared blankly, including Satsuko who had no idea what he was talking about. Mary on the other hand started to laugh, while Meiling showed disappointment.
“Sateen?” Meiling asked. “What kind of name is Sateen?”
“Shut up! It’s a cool name! It fits my dark and tortured personality! You wouldn’t understand the life I had!” Sateen said in an edgy tone. “Anyways…If you want to defeat me… You’ll have to beat my challenge!”
“And what’s the challenge?”
“You’ll have to come up with the darkest and edgiest backstory you could think of! If you can beat me then I’ll give you what you want. If you lose… then you’ll be trapped in an ever-spiraling tunnel of life and death! You will feel your soul leak out only to be pulled back in over and over, with no hopes of escape!”
“...”
Everyone was quiet. They all thought that his idea for a challenge didn’t seem too hard, especially considering what most of them had already gone through within a span of less than a week.
“Oh, and I will personally judge you on how edgy your backstory is. If it isn’t edgy enough, then you fail the challenge.” He added. “Let’s have you start, China.” He pointed at Meiling.
Meiling felt triggered, almost wanting to bash the kid’s skull in for the nickname. But she held back knowing violence will not get them anywhere at this current moment.
“Very well… You wanna know my backstory… Well I shall tell then.” Meiling said with a smirk.
"No, I have a better idea. Let Sumireko say hers."
“Wait…What?” Meiling said, hearing the voice speak. Mary and Sumireko were also confused.
"I know some things about her that you don't. Let's just say she used to be like him as well."
They looked at Sumireko, as she started to look the other way. “Um…T-that was a long time ago. Besides, I’m an adult, I’ve outgrown that phase.” She said.
"Yeah, that's why I need you to act like a nerd again. You are the only one here who can speak his same language."
“Can’t I just…Not embarrass myself?”
“Someone is trying to deny her past... You can do this… Unleash your inner chuunibyou.”
Sumireko shook her head in denial.
"Let's raise the stakes higher. If you manage to convince him to give up, I'll give you a reward later."
“...Ugh…In the name of Hakurei…” She had eyes on her, she knew what she had to do but mentally she was hesitant. Sumireko pinched the bridge of her nose, thinking about how awkward she’s going to feel, while Sateen started to get impatient.
“Well? What are you waiting for? Unless you’re actually a coward who already admitted defeat.” He said.
Bearing no other choice, Sumireko stepped forward, lifting her cape and showing a small display of her psychic powers by lighting a large flame behind her. She formed a pose, raising her arm to draw near her face while resting her arm on the other hand.
“My name is Sumireko Usami! Queen of the Occult! The Master of Psychokinesis! The Dweller of Gensokyo and the Outside World! I have been born with these powers that only manifested around Middle School! Though my powers are great I struggle in holding back for I fear of harming others! I have faced monsters, deities, and creatures of many shapes and sizes! I have suffered through the fires of hell and the taste of direct magic! I survived an encounter with a phone call from Mary and avoided being crushed by falling earth! If you dare face me, then you will face the terrifying power of a former high school student!!!”
What she said sounded both intimidating and cheesy. Sumireko stood there in silence, everyone looked at her with surprised faces that looked like they had nothing to say, nothing to show. The Psychic girl herself started to blush upon realizing that what she just said sounded very stupid.
“Oh god…I sounded like an idiot!!! I knew this was a bad idea. Why did I go through with this? This is exactly why I outgrew this phase!” Sumireko thought.
“Wow…So…cool…” Sateen said, amazed by Sumireko’s pose and self-introduction. “To think that a woman of such power has existed… A goddess even.”
“...Eh?” Sumireko’s blush faded, replaced with a look of confusion.
“...But that’s not enough. You were close, amazing even. But you need something more in order to impress me.” Sateen said.
"And guess who is behind you…" A voice said behind Sateen.
"It's me, the one and only…Mary!!!" Mary said, doing a cool pose with her blade. “I have been crafted by a legend along with my brothers and sisters, only to have been forgotten. I have been used in the name of blood and vengeance, but also sadness and misery. I swore to protect the boy I love, even if I were to forsake myself and my life in his name.”
“Woah…That’s also cool.” Sateen said. “Not as cool as the other girl, but still.”
As if feeling like she didn’t want to be left out, Meiling also joined in the fray, taking one of her usual fighting poses. “My name is Hong Meiling! I am the gatekeeper of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, the loyal guard of Remilia and Flandre Scarlet, the friend of a time-stopping maid and a 1-week magician! I grew up in Ancient China where I trained in martial arts! I left in order to find my purpose in life, only to face obstacle after obstacle. Through blood, sweat and tears I broke through those obstacles, leaving behind a bloody past!”
“Cool…” Sateen was also impressed by Meiling. “You are all so cool.”
"…But I will never be like that…" Satsuteen said, lowering his head.
"I'm worth nothing."
The others looked at him with concerned faces. The off-voice proceeded to explain the situation.
"One of Satsujin's desires was to be worth something. Years of mental abuse led him to this constant cycle of apparenting to be something good…only to fail loudly at it. This led him to experience a deep depression, and altered his own way of being. He became bitter and pessimistic, always blaming himself for not being able to fight back. But he did enjoy the little things in life, like going to visit his grandmother, eating dinner with his young brother, or even something as simple as eating chocolates. This is the physical form of his teenhood."
“So that’s why he’s…” Sumireko paused mid-sentence, thinking about how it makes sense now.
Sateen looked like he was gloomy, brooding with his thoughts and expressions, staring down at the floor and his hands. But he clenched them into fists, looking back up at the others with a different look compared to before.
"...No…I can't keep being like this…I have to be better…better…" He said, with a bitter expression on his face. He opened one of his hands, and a weapon manifested around his grip. Long like a spear, but the blade was cured and one-sided, making it a more unique weapon. He swung it forward, taking a stance as though he was in the spotlight for the moment. “This is my Spear of Acies! A powerful weapon that was crafted using the horn of a Qiongqi, sculpted by the hands of Hades’ bare hands, designed by the unholy priestess of hell! It’s power has the ability to slice down mountains in half, obliterate the souls of even the purest of living creatures! Only I have the strength to wield such power, even if it drains me in the process and turn me into a hollow corpse! I shall use it to express myself, and show you all what I’m truly capable of!!!”
He leaped into the air, twirling the weapon so fast it formed a circle. He spun around three times in two different directions before he landed back on the ground. He dashed right forward towards the group, chanting his ultimate special attack.
“Titan’s Wrath “Destruction of the 83 Moons of Saturn”!!!!!”
But then out of nowhere, as he was a second away from unleashing his attack. His foot slipped on the ground, causing him to fall forward and splat right on the floor. His weapon flew out of his hands, landing only a few meters away from him and the group.
Mary reached for it, and after a quick inspection, she said:
"This spear looks like it was sharpened with stones. Do you actually know how to sharpen something like this?!? The edge is all messed up, cracked, rusty and…"
She looked at Sateen struggling to get up. Or rather, he wasn’t trying to. He was too focused on holding back his tears while the sound of his sniffling was picked up.
“Damn it… It was going to be… so cool.” He said while his voice cracked.
"So much effort…for nothing."
"Why?!?! Why does it have to be just me, the one who always gets the bad impression?!?"
Mary realized that he was actually hurt, torn even from the level of humiliation he received after all the build-up. The thought of going up to him and comfort him came into her mind almost immediately, call it maternal instinct even. However, Sumireko already beat her to the chase. The Psychic Girl walked over to Sateen, sitting next to him and quietly patted him on the shoulder.
“I know how it feels, kid.” She said. “We all have had our fair share of humiliation…But that’s only because the normos don’t know how awesome we really are. You may think you screwed up but in reality we were lucky that we didn’t get obliterated by your weapon of mass destruction.”
“...R-Really? You don’t think I’m a fool?” Sateen asked, glancing at Sumireko.
“Of course. From one Chuuni to another, we should have each other’s backs. Also, that attack name you came up with, that was such a cool name. You got any other cool moves like that?”
Sateen was shocked by many factors. But the two factors that mattered most were that 1. He had someone who could relate to him in his edginess. And 2. It was a girl of all people that was talking to him. A girl that is now taking a closer look, seems very pretty with those glasses, that short brown hair, that gentle and smooth skin. He quickly looked in the opposite direction, turning his entire body around.
“W-Well. I-I am glad that you are impressed by me. M-Most people would either cower in fear or tremble upon my might, but you happen to be one of the few who are able to withstand my intimidating aura.” Sateen said, internally he was panicking, thinking of what to say that could avoid him making a fool out of himself once more in front of such a beautiful girl.
Sumireko was a little confused on how he was acting now, but Mary knew better. She could tell how he was acting because Satsujin acted in a similar way once before with Mystia.
"I remember when Satsujin had an anxiety attack when he got his face revealed to his newmet friends. He was so scared that someone would make fun of his scarred face, but hopefully Mystia was there to calm him down." Mary said.
"And when she complimented him…he went red as a tomato. Heh…Good times."
Another minute later, Sateen felt better about himself thanks to the confidence boost from Sumireko. He stood back up, looking at everyone, including Satsuko and let out a deep sigh.
“You have all bested me… But that is only because I was using just 1% of my power!” He quickly added. “Because I know that you wouldn’t stand a chance against me if I didn’t hold back, I willingly accept defeat for now.”
As he said that, a small light glowed in the room everyone was in. Out popped into existence a small blue key with a red gem in the center, flying around until floating into Satsuko’s hands. Then it was followed up by random victory music.
“Congratulations! You have acquired one of the keys needed in order to unlock the entrance to the Tower of Reminiscence!”
“Wait, really? That’s all it took?” Meiling asked the voice.
"Yeah. Doing things not-violently is also a valid option."
“So, we just need to get the rest of the keys in order to go into the tower then?” Mary said.
“Looks like it.” Sumireko said. “I think the map said we had four locations, so if this is key number one, then we only need to get three more.”
"And as for me? It would be shameful for an omniscient entity like me to not fulfill their promises. Here's your reward."

A strange-looking fruit appeared in front of Sumireko, which was reminiscent of a prickly pear's fruit , with a red and yellow color gradient across it. The surface of the fruit had a few marks in the form of veins, and the center of it displayed a skin fold resembling a closed eye.
“A fruit?” Sumireko said.
“Not just any fruit. This fruit gives anyone who consumes it enhanced power. Those who have devoured the fruit have grown both in physical and mental strength."
"Trust me when I say you would wish these weren't endangered to the point of near extinction. They have a godly taste."
“...Okay.” Sumireko said, biting into the fruit without a moment of hesitation. “Hm…Tastes very sweet and smooth."
"So, how are you feeling?"
“...Not that much dif-”
Sumireko paused, a flourishing sensation of psychic energy coursing through her body, her veins, her spirit. Her hair spiked up from the gust of wind that blew around her and against the others who surrounded her. It lasted for a few seconds before coming to an instant halt.
“...Woah.” Sumireko said.
"Oh, I should have said before that the effects kick in REALLY hard. Hehehe… Now…what if you try to read someone's mind now?"
“Read someone’s mind?” Sumireko said. “I don’t think I ever tried that before.”
"I'm not kidding, try it."
She did what the voice suggested. Looking over at Sateen, she concentrated with her mind a little, looking directly at him like how Satori would do it.
“Um…Why is she staring at me like that…Could it be that she has become impressed by my awesomeness? Maybe she wants to know more about my dark origin? No… Maybe it’s more than that!”
It worked, she was able to hear his thoughts. It sounded loud and clear as if he was actually speaking right now.
“No… Maybe she… in… with me… perhaps she would………”
But as she continued, her mind quickly turned foggy, and a mild headache ensued. She broke her connection with Sateen’s mind, shaking her head with slight fatigue.
“Ow… I guess I can’t do it for too long.” Sumireko said.
"The only problem is that you can do it on one person at once, but it's much better than having no control over it. And don't overdo it, or… you could cause yourself a thrombosis in the worst of cases."
After a moment to recover, Sumireko and the others decided to head to their next location. They pulled out the map, seeing one of the tokens that floated over the haunted house now gone, replaced with a little flag with a check mark instead.
"Please choose a new location to go. And no, no more effortless choices from now on, sorry."

We packed our wagon with food. When we had finished, my father disappeared into darkness.

"Life is hard," he said.
From behind his belt he pulled his knife.
"Understand?"
He passed the knife to me.
I took it, but it weighed heavily in my hands. I looked at the knife; I looked at the goat, which was calmer now, noticing how its eyes reflected the surrounding blackness, in which I myself was.
"A man must be strong," my father said.
The goat stood.
I stood.
"You are old enough."
"Understand?"
I took the rope from my father.
He loomed above me as I loomed above the goat.
"Kill," he said.
"We will sell the meat at the market."
I obeyed.
Knife—
blood poured forth.
The goat bucked, but tightly I held the rope. Its black eyes, each containing a distortion of my face, began to shake, then spin like the Earth: days and weeks and months and—twin white rings extended from its dying eyes and shot out, trailing thin translucent skin sacks; attaching themselves to my own eyes, and through the dermal corridors between us, I saw the goat's diminishing soul, its innocence and its terrible lack of understanding, and I felt these primevally as if they were my own.
I slashed madly at the skin sacks.
And they were gone:
The pre-dawn returned. The goat: dead, its warm blood sleek upon my hands, which held the knife, and the looming, dim face of my father:
"It is done."
After my father killed two more goats, we butchered their carcasses in silence, and took them on the wagon to the market.
I was as if under a spell.
The road was bumpy, and we passed checkpoints manned by tribesmen with rifles. At one, up ahead, there erupted yelling, followed by gunfire.
An explosion—
My bloody hands;
My father's distorted face;
Fragmented wagons and the dead bodies of tribesmen, but from above, increasingly from above, until they were nothing and the dawn became all at once...
Through light to flesh: heat to warmth: eternity unto the comforting temporality of the world, I travelled, until feeling my body again I was carried by contractions through a tubular wetness and deposited on the ground.
Blind. Deaf.
Squirming on the Earth.
I was a baby goat.
Unable to speak, I could not tell my experience to the people around me. I could merely bleat—dimly.
One day, a man pulled me toward a boy.
I knew the boy.
I was he.
Holding a knife, the boy looked into my eyes, and with all my might I thought, Do not kill us!
But he misunderstood.
And I was re-born: a boy without memory.

2023.03.30 01:30 NobleSyxT9 Idea: Boss for Shadow of the Erdtree
So one of my only complaints with Elden Ring is with all the duo fights. They all feel like a gank fest, and it's usually just an annoyance to have to fight them. I was thinking back to the DS3 duo fight, Demon Prince. That boss fight always felt so well balanced, and I actually looked forward to fighting them every NG cycle.
So here's my idea. They make a trio boss fight, with 1 primary melee attacker, 1 primary ranged attacker, and 1 primary buffedebuffer. When you enter the fight, the melee boss would be closest to you, with the other two towards the back of the boss room. The melee boss would obviously focus on melee attacks and staying on top of you, the ranged boss would pester you with with non-staggering magic and ranged attacks like poison mists and such, and the buffing/debuffing boss would mainly use spells to buff the other two bosses and debuff the tarnished. There would be a unique cutscene for each of the three bosses, determined by which one dies last, where the last one would stagger back/fall on one knee/etc, then proceed to merge it's body with the other two to become a new, more powerful boss, themed around the one that had died last. When you finally beat this boss, you'd be rewarded with a remembrance specific to whichever boss you'd killed, so if you wanted a specific remembrance you'd have to be careful about the order you killed them in. Obviously if you wanted all the remembrances, you'd have to do multiple NG cycles to obtain them.
As far as how this wouldn't just be a cake walk in coop, maybe they can all switch forms during the first phase, similar to how the duo in Demon Prince do, but the form they each start in is the form they do the best in. For example, the melee boss does more damage when in melee form then the other two do in melee form, and so on.
Lorewise, this trio fight would match the theme of the DLC, and all 3 would be of the same species, matching each other aesthetically, but still having clear differences to tell them apart.
Obviously this idea will likely never get used, hell they're probably too far into development on the DLC to be adding new bosses anyways. But I'd love to see some love for my duo/trio fights.

So here's my idea. They make a trio boss fight, with 1 primary melee attacker, 1 primary ranged attacker, and 1 primary buffedebuffer. When you enter the fight, the melee boss would be closest to you, with the other two towards the back of the boss room. The melee boss would obviously focus on melee attacks and staying on top of you, the ranged boss would pester you with with non-staggering magic and ranged attacks like poison mists and such, and the buffing/debuffing boss would mainly use spells to buff the other two bosses and debuff the tarnished. There would be a unique cutscene for each of the three bosses, determined by which one dies last, where the last one would stagger back/fall on one knee/etc, then proceed to merge it's body with the other two to become a new, more powerful boss, themed around the one that had died last. When you finally beat this boss, you'd be rewarded with a remembrance specific to whichever boss you'd killed, so if you wanted a specific remembrance you'd have to be careful about the order you killed them in. Obviously if you wanted all the remembrances, you'd have to do multiple NG cycles to obtain them.

I 22F and my Ex 25M had a baby in October of 2020 at ages 20F and 22M (I had just barely turned 20 2 weeks before the babies birth). When my son was three months old my Ex was arrested and that started the mess that is my life. I had to move back with my parents and become a single mom.
A little back story, I met this man, we’ll call him Jake when I became his trainer at the job we both worked. Jake immediately caught my notice and I thought he was sweet and funny and a super nice guy. I had met both his sisters before I met him (at the same job) and liked both of them immensely. Jake and I started hanging out a lot at work and developed a really close relationship. I would come over all the time just to hang out and spend time together and I started developing feelings. Skip forward about 4 months and he asks me to be his girlfriend and of course I say yes. We date for about a year and I find out I’m pregnant with his baby. Before this point we had already talked about marriage and even gone out to look at engagement rings.
I’m almost 3 months pregnant when Jake decided he’s going to propose to me. At his dads house. When I look like I just rolled out of bed. I imagined getting the most romantic proposal with me dressed and looking cute and that’s not what I got at all. It was the worst proposal and I was very upset with the way he went about it but I said yes anyway.
We had been living with his dad for a while and finally gotten our own apartment. Everything seems to be going great. Until we go to the hospital for the delivery. Jake came with me and supported me while I pushed. The problem came when the nurses took our son to the nursery and then proceeded to admit him into the NICU because he was having problems breathing. We visited him once as a couple and then Jake told me that he wouldn’t visit our son again because it was too painful for him to see him hooked up to all the machines. He then proceeded to ask me everyday for the next four days we were there, if he could go home and play video games with his friends because this was taking longer than he thought. Jake would return every night to sleep on the tiny hospital couch and ask if he could leave in the morning to again go home and play video games.
We finally are able to bring our son home on oxygen and I proceed to be a single mother except for the few times I asked him to babysit while I slept in a little longer or when I needed to take a shower. Jake seemed to begrudge even doing those small things saying it’s a mothers job to take care of the children.
This all takes a tragic turn 3 months later when at 6:00am I have 15 policeman kicking down my door wanting Jake. What proceeded will forever be the worst day of my life and I won’t share the details from that day. He was put in jail and then prison on several 1st 2nd and 3rd degree felony charges for pedophilia. Suffice it to say I was deeply shocked. I found out that he had been grooming my 13 year old sister but hadn’t done anything YET. He’s been gone since our son was 3 months old and now he’s 2 1/2. I tried to support Jake through this whole thing because I loved him but it’s been hell. Everyday waking up knowing I was causing my sister pain by staying with this man, and from the pure stress and depression that comes with being a new mother, it was too much.

I honestly don’t know where to start… I have been broken up with my ex for about 6 months now. It was a very toxic and manipulative relationship. My ex has either BP or BPD (I forget), also PTSD, and depression, and she rarely ever took her meds. She was a complete narcissist and I didn’t have the right communication skills and patience to work things out. It came to the point where she didn’t want anything to do with me.
Near the end of the relationship we would get into a fight and she’d yell at me saying that she hates me and wishes she never loved me or never got into a relationship with me. These fights would go for hours and it was so draining. Then at the end she would tell me how much she loved me and that she wants to marry me and she was forever grateful for me. We were in a relationship for a year and it only got bad during the last 3 months of it.
Anyways back to when we had broken up and we had booked a vacation a couple months prior. We both agreed that we would still go as it’s non refundable. When I go to pick her up she had to run out and get some things for the trip she tells me. She would hug me, kiss me on the head and told me that she loved me. I then waited hours and it was about 10pm when I would get a FaceTime with my ex and 3 of her friends. They would scream at me calling me a rapist and that I need therapy and so many more hurtful things. She also had said that she does not regret cheating on me in the least bit and saying I deserved it. She threatens to call the police saying that I had sexually assaulted her and telling me she’s gonna do anything she can to ruin my life.
I gathered all of my shit from her house and got the hell out of there as fast as I could. I would then call the police and explained what happened and asking for advice. And that’s the last of it. That was the last time we ever talked.
To get back to the point of this post, recently as specific dates got closer I got curious and looked at what she’s been up to. So I go onto social media and see that there’s posts of me and her when we were still together up on her feeds. But there’s also other posts of her calling me names and everything in the book. We’re both in our 20s but she’s making it seem like we’re teenagers. However the part I don’t understand is that she’s still wearing my clothes and the promise ring I gave her on our 6 month’s anniversary (that has a lot of meanings).
I truly don’t understand why the posts are still up and wearing the ring as she does associate attachments to things. That’s what confuses me the most. Our last 2 interactions also confuses me, like our last hug of her squeezing me very tight almost as if she didn’t want to let me go and then to get her friends to scream at me. I just don’t want to be associated with her at all. I don’t know if I should reach out and tell her to take them down or to stop wearing the ring. Or maybe get a friend to? Or maybe just suck it up buttercup type of deal. It just gives me the ickiest and weirdest feelings. I just don’t know what to do. What are your guys takes? I’m sorry for the dump just very overwhelmed and not sure what I’m feeling.

"So. Gorna. Tell me a bit about centaur culture." James said as he rode along down the road, Amina's arms loosely wrapped around his waist. "I don't know much about you guys. Petravus has them. But I haven't spoken to too many."
The centaur woman, who had been silently walking next to Steve as they traveled, scoffed. She'd made a point of ignoring James almost as hard as Amina had initially ignored her.
She'd also practically begged for Amina to ride on her back instead of on Steve's. James hadn't even weighed in on that conversation, simply holding his wolf hand down to Amina confidently. She hadn't even slowed down to consider the offer, much to the centaur's chagrin.
"I am not a school master interloper." She said venomously. James just shrugged and turned back to the road.
"Oh by the gods." Amina said in exasperation. She turned in the saddle, releasing her hold on James to look over at her devoted follower. "Gorna. James is my husband. It's one thing if you dislike him or avoid him. But I will not have you openly disrespect him. Understood?" James looked back at her curiously. He didn't care either way. But he nodded his appreciation.
Then he heard a slight rumbling, grinding noise from on the other side of Steve. Normally that sound would mean the massive drake was readying a breath of fire. But there was no heat with this rumble.
Glag on the other hand was looking in the direction of the centaur, his eyes looking much more aware than they normally did as he walked along. James wondered if he could sense Gorna somehow, since he couldn't SEE her past Steve's bulk.
Is he readying to defend me? He wondered.
But Glag simply kept walking and rumbling with that semi-observant look on his face as he, in his own way, glared in Gorna's direction.
The Centaur stamped at the ground with her hooves a bit, causing her to bounce up and down and make a small change in her direction before course correcting.
"Yes Mistress." She said angrily.
"It's obvious that you have no intention of letting this whole proposition thing go." Amina continued as she turned back and placed a hand on James's side again. "Despite my protestations and the extenuating circumstances around it. So until you eventually give up or find your conditions met, however that may occur, we are a traveling party. We need to at least be able to EXIST around each other and communicate." Then she pointed a harsh finger at the centaur. "And I've told you before; quit calling me Mistress. Amina is fine. Or Princess or General if you insist on formality."
"Yes Mi-" Gorna began, but Amina's finger rose back up at the sound. "Princess." She corrected herself.
"And you can just call me James." James added casually. "Or... I guess.... Captain. If you wanna do that formally too." He shook his head. "It's been a year and I still don't like that." He said softly to Amina.
The three of them rode in awkward silence for a few moments, with Glag simply walking along without tiring. He'd stopped rumbling too.
"I was... I am... not terribly... liked by my people." Gorna admitted quietly.
James turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow. Amina simply set her head on his shoulder on the side of the centaur. It was obvious from Gorna's downcast face that she didn't like admitting that.
"I am smaller than most centaurs. And a woman." She continued. "And I was never terribly good at fighting." James wanted to say something to the contrary of that, but was silenced by Amina squeezing him with the hand on his side. "At least not in the traditional ways of my people."
"You were certainly strong in our fight." Amina said.
"Yes. But... I rely on magic. And the enchantment on my daggers. I am only passably good with a bow and arrow. And, as you found out yourself, I struggle to compete in direct melee combat." Gorna countered with a hint of anger. "My people favor the sword and axe and spear, and I am not terribly capable with any of those to a sufficient degree."
"But not all centaurs are warriors." Amina said. "I know many that are craftsman, or artists. Many who take jobs as messengers or supply escorts or scouts."
"And again; I am smaller and weaker than most of my kind. And not terribly artistic either. And those last three jobs all require warrior skills. And most centaurs get picked for them before me."
"You are a little smaller than the handful of centaurs I've seen." James said. Gorna glared at him, but a warning glance from Amina kept her quiet. "But... I'm smaller than most humans. And I still almost won the tournament."
"No you didn't dear." Amina said quickly, causing him to try to look back at her with mock anger. But her head stayed locked where it was, preventing him from turning without getting a face full of hair, and her off hand grabbed the back of his head and pointed it straight. After a moment he reluctantly stopped struggling. "He is right though." She added. "Size isn't everything."
"Not to most." Gorna agreed. "I do know that now. Now that I'm older, and have traveled some. Traveled alone." She shook her head. "But... when I was young I was... for all intents and purposes exiled from my clan."
"What clan were you?" Amina asked.
"Northern Range Horde." Gorna said softly.
"Hmmm." Amina hummed. "They spawn a lot of mercenary companies. I can see them not being a fan of someone they deem as weak." She'd read a great many intelligence reports about the strength of the Northern Range Horde, and had even faced a company of one of their mercenary groups when she'd still just been a captain.
"I assume you didn't get your... Dagger Dancing... from them?" James asked.
"No." She admitted. "No. That I picked up from an Arbalestier I traveled with for a while. He used bolts that could change angle mid flight. Gave me the idea for the daggers."
"You were trying to win the tournament to get them to accept you?" James followed up.
Gorna looked over, a bit surprised at how well he'd read her intentions.
"Yes." She admitted.
The continued walking for a minute in silence.
"I'm not sorry that I beat you." Amina said after a few moments.
"Don't be." Gorna said. "The god of war desires combat. Survived defeat is simply a chance to grow in skill, and gain greater, more satisfying, victory in future battles."
Amina felt James stiffen. But she spoke before he could say anything.
"So long as the cost is low enough. Defeat grants more experience than victory." Amina agreed.
"Glag." Glag weighed in.
"Well said Glag." James remarked.
"Glag glag." Glag replied.
"By the way." Gorna said. "Why is that thing following you?"
"No idea." James admitted. "But I'm not looking to fight him about it."
"Glag." Glag said.
And the four of them continued down the road.

Samantha yawned as the van rumbled over the gravel road out of the recreational area.
"Huh." Fletcher said as he looked back from the passenger seat. "Looks like we finally found you guys' limits. Never seen any of you guys exhausted before."
"Could see it a bit more often if you wanted." She said softly.
"What?" He asked as he turned back, a look of confusion on his face.
"Nothing." She replied. She always got too candid when she was tired. "Just that it was the squirrel's fault."
"Heh. Yeah" He said in response. "You guys chased that thing for like, half an hour."
She laughed a bit. "At least until the food was done."
Fletcher turned a bit and looked back at the other werewolves. If any of them were still awake, he couldn't tell. The youngest one was curled into the crook of Mrs. Ramirez's shoulder. The older woman had taken the roll of the newly orphaned child's makeshift mother.
"They look up to you you know?" He asked quietly. He pointed at the rest of the small group. "Not just them either. But the rest too."
"Yeah right." She said as she looked out the window, her head vibrating against the glass.
"I'm serious." He said. "They listen to you." He pointed back again. "You didn't see the looks on their faces when we opened the cooler with all the meat in it. They were ready to rip that burger meat to shreds. And Esteves's arm would've come out unscathed if they had.'" He nodded at her. "You stopped them with nothing but words and a bit of a growl."
She thought back to it. Had that been how it had looked? To her it had just been her reminding them to act like people and not like the animals that that supposed "God" had tried to make them.
"No...." She said, shaking her head. "That was just.... no."
"Cliche or not." He said. "You're kinda the leader of.... well... the pack."
She looked away, her eyes darting around a bit as she thought about that for a moment.
"Don't want to be the pack leader." She said. "Didn't even want to be an NCO. Just wanted to get my criminology and then go CID."
"Didn't wanna be a werewolf either." He said.
"Don't remind me." She shot back.
Dr. Esteves stayed quiet in the drivers seat. Dr. Munro had warned him that Jenkins had a bit of a crush on the Lawyer.
"I didn't want to be a lawyer." He said. She looked over at him in surprise, her head tilting like it did now."Or live in Dakota. But... eh.... you make do."
"Really?" She asked curiously. "What did you want to do?"
He let out a chuckle. "I wanted to be a guitarist." He admitted. "Turns out I'm tone deaf. Aaaaaaand can't keep a beat to save my soul."
"And that..... made you a lawyer?" She asked.
"Eh... more like the tail end of a long series of dominoes." He said. "And it's not like it compares to what you guys are going through." Then he shrugged. "Plus. Like a lot of guys stories. It kinda involves a girl."
"Ah." She said. "Makes sense."
They rode in silence for a while.
"You're handling it well." He said after a while.
She looked over at him curiously.
"The whole... wolf thing." He explained. "I can't imagine what it's like. Losing everything. Even your own instincts."
She thought for a while. "Wasn't exactly fun she agreed. But.... now that I've been this way for a while. There are some upsides." She confessed.
"Yeah?" He wondered. "Like what? Bench pressing a pickup truck is pretty sweet I guess."
"That's one." She agreed. Then she looked back at the others. "But... well, I don't know about the whole LEADER thing... But... I think I might've been alone before... You know? Without realizing it. It's nice not to be. Dr. Munro ACTUALLY cares about me."
"She's like that." He said. "She got in trouble a few years back before all this for... well, that's her story to tell. But, lets just say that she'll definitely throw down to take care of her patients."
"Plus them." She said with a wave at the other wolves. "I'm glad you guys let us meet each other. It's nice not to be alone in all of this."
"Would you two just make out already?" One of the ones in the back asked with a slight raise of their head. They pointed at their ears. "Super hearing remember? Trying to sleep."
"True." Another one slurred through their exhaustion.
If it hadn't been for her fur, Samantha would have blushed. Fletcher just looked straight ahead, eyes wide.
Dr. Esteves tried no to chuckle, and ALMOST, succeeded.

So, I called up my oral surgeon and begged to see him about my the pain and my gums.
Somehow he finally relented and accepted to see men despite me showing him how bad my gums are, how I’ve lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks from not eating, explaining that I can’t stop crying because of the pain, and just so much more.
He says to me “actually, this looks like if i were to look in a medical book on how something heals perfectly. Your mouth is the photo they’d use”. And then adopting the tone of “this fucking kid. I am so tired of dealing with and seeing him”. His distain of me could only have been clearer if he was just kicking the shit out of me.
He tells me, that I’m fine and to stop worrying. The pain is all in my head. That’s it.
Then tells me he’ll see me at the end of April. Didn’t prescribe a gel, a pill, not even an ice pack. Just a Swift boot to my ass and a “fuck off”
When I got home, I was so angry and in so much pain, I repeatedly punched my metal front door in a huge fit of rage.
First. I am not a violent person. I deal with this kind of shit with dark humour or bitching about it online. I loathe violence.
Second. I’ve watched my entire family as I grew up go further and further into violence. It might be cool in movies but I can’t even properly express how much it disgusts me in real life.
So, there I am, punching my metal door. I punched it a good 10 times or more(I truly don’t remember) out of pure rage. And now I think I sprained or broke several knuckles. My hand is Fucking killing me. It’s swollen to high hell, massively brushed, full of spots were I scraped off layers of skin.
And honestly. I’m happy for the pain, because I can touch it, press on it, or whatever, and it gives me a great distraction from my cunt of a mouth. And even if I wanted to go get it looked at. I feel that would just make what little opinion they have on me even worse.
They’ve already spread lies about me assaulting my wife(not even kidding), so who knows what bullshit would be made up if I were to go get my hand looked at.
I think I’m just going to leave it and deal with it. Just a constant reminder that I am alone.

"So. Gorna. Tell me a bit about centaur culture." James said as he rode along down the road, Amina's arms loosely wrapped around his waist. "I don't know much about you guys. Petravus has them. But I haven't spoken to too many."
The centaur woman, who had been silently walking next to Steve as they traveled, scoffed. She'd made a point of ignoring James almost as hard as Amina had initially ignored her.
She'd also practically begged for Amina to ride on her back instead of on Steve's. James hadn't even weighed in on that conversation, simply holding his wolf hand down to Amina confidently. She hadn't even slowed down to consider the offer, much to the centaur's chagrin.
"I am not a school master interloper." She said venomously. James just shrugged and turned back to the road.
"Oh by the gods." Amina said in exasperation. She turned in the saddle, releasing her hold on James to look over at her devoted follower. "Gorna. James is my husband. It's one thing if you dislike him or avoid him. But I will not have you openly disrespect him. Understood?" James looked back at her curiously. He didn't care either way. But he nodded his appreciation.
Then he heard a slight rumbling, grinding noise from on the other side of Steve. Normally that sound would mean the massive drake was readying a breath of fire. But there was no heat with this rumble.
Glag on the other hand was looking in the direction of the centaur, his eyes looking much more aware than they normally did as he walked along. James wondered if he could sense Gorna somehow, since he couldn't SEE her past Steve's bulk.
Is he readying to defend me? He wondered.
But Glag simply kept walking and rumbling with that semi-observant look on his face as he, in his own way, glared in Gorna's direction.
The Centaur stamped at the ground with her hooves a bit, causing her to bounce up and down and make a small change in her direction before course correcting.
"Yes Mistress." She said angrily.
"It's obvious that you have no intention of letting this whole proposition thing go." Amina continued as she turned back and placed a hand on James's side again. "Despite my protestations and the extenuating circumstances around it. So until you eventually give up or find your conditions met, however that may occur, we are a traveling party. We need to at least be able to EXIST around each other and communicate." Then she pointed a harsh finger at the centaur. "And I've told you before; quit calling me Mistress. Amina is fine. Or Princess or General if you insist on formality."
"Yes Mi-" Gorna began, but Amina's finger rose back up at the sound. "Princess." She corrected herself.
"And you can just call me James." James added casually. "Or... I guess.... Captain. If you wanna do that formally too." He shook his head. "It's been a year and I still don't like that." He said softly to Amina.
The three of them rode in awkward silence for a few moments, with Glag simply walking along without tiring. He'd stopped rumbling too.
"I was... I am... not terribly... liked by my people." Gorna admitted quietly.
James turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow. Amina simply set her head on his shoulder on the side of the centaur. It was obvious from Gorna's downcast face that she didn't like admitting that.
"I am smaller than most centaurs. And a woman." She continued. "And I was never terribly good at fighting." James wanted to say something to the contrary of that, but was silenced by Amina squeezing him with the hand on his side. "At least not in the traditional ways of my people."
"You were certainly strong in our fight." Amina said.
"Yes. But... I rely on magic. And the enchantment on my daggers. I am only passably good with a bow and arrow. And, as you found out yourself, I struggle to compete in direct melee combat." Gorna countered with a hint of anger. "My people favor the sword and axe and spear, and I am not terribly capable with any of those to a sufficient degree."
"But not all centaurs are warriors." Amina said. "I know many that are craftsman, or artists. Many who take jobs as messengers or supply escorts or scouts."
"And again; I am smaller and weaker than most of my kind. And not terribly artistic either. And those last three jobs all require warrior skills. And most centaurs get picked for them before me."
"You are a little smaller than the handful of centaurs I've seen." James said. Gorna glared at him, but a warning glance from Amina kept her quiet. "But... I'm smaller than most humans. And I still almost won the tournament."
"No you didn't dear." Amina said quickly, causing him to try to look back at her with mock anger. But her head stayed locked where it was, preventing him from turning without getting a face full of hair, and her off hand grabbed the back of his head and pointed it straight. After a moment he reluctantly stopped struggling. "He is right though." She added. "Size isn't everything."
"Not to most." Gorna agreed. "I do know that now. Now that I'm older, and have traveled some. Traveled alone." She shook her head. "But... when I was young I was... for all intents and purposes exiled from my clan."
"What clan were you?" Amina asked.
"Northern Range Horde." Gorna said softly.
"Hmmm." Amina hummed. "They spawn a lot of mercenary companies. I can see them not being a fan of someone they deem as weak." She'd read a great many intelligence reports about the strength of the Northern Range Horde, and had even faced a company of one of their mercenary groups when she'd still just been a captain.
"I assume you didn't get your... Dagger Dancing... from them?" James asked.
"No." She admitted. "No. That I picked up from an Arbalestier I traveled with for a while. He used bolts that could change angle mid flight. Gave me the idea for the daggers."
"You were trying to win the tournament to get them to accept you?" James followed up.
Gorna looked over, a bit surprised at how well he'd read her intentions.
"Yes." She admitted.
The continued walking for a minute in silence.
"I'm not sorry that I beat you." Amina said after a few moments.
"Don't be." Gorna said. "The god of war desires combat. Survived defeat is simply a chance to grow in skill, and gain greater, more satisfying, victory in future battles."
Amina felt James stiffen. But she spoke before he could say anything.
"So long as the cost is low enough. Defeat grants more experience than victory." Amina agreed.
"Glag." Glag weighed in.
"Well said Glag." James remarked.
"Glag glag." Glag replied.
"By the way." Gorna said. "Why is that thing following you?"
"No idea." James admitted. "But I'm not looking to fight him about it."
"Glag." Glag said.
And the four of them continued down the road.

Samantha yawned as the van rumbled over the gravel road out of the recreational area.
"Huh." Fletcher said as he looked back from the passenger seat. "Looks like we finally found you guys' limits. Never seen any of you guys exhausted before."
"Could see it a bit more often if you wanted." She said softly.
"What?" He asked as he turned back, a look of confusion on his face.
"Nothing." She replied. She always got too candid when she was tired. "Just that it was the squirrel's fault."
"Heh. Yeah" He said in response. "You guys chased that thing for like, half an hour."
She laughed a bit. "At least until the food was done."
Fletcher turned a bit and looked back at the other werewolves. If any of them were still awake, he couldn't tell. The youngest one was curled into the crook of Mrs. Ramirez's shoulder. The older woman had taken the roll of the newly orphaned child's makeshift mother.
"They look up to you you know?" He asked quietly. He pointed at the rest of the small group. "Not just them either. But the rest too."
"Yeah right." She said as she looked out the window, her head vibrating against the glass.
"I'm serious." He said. "They listen to you." He pointed back again. "You didn't see the looks on their faces when we opened the cooler with all the meat in it. They were ready to rip that burger meat to shreds. And Esteves's arm would've come out unscathed if they had.'" He nodded at her. "You stopped them with nothing but words and a bit of a growl."
She thought back to it. Had that been how it had looked? To her it had just been her reminding them to act like people and not like the animals that that supposed "God" had tried to make them.
"No...." She said, shaking her head. "That was just.... no."
"Cliche or not." He said. "You're kinda the leader of.... well... the pack."
She looked away, her eyes darting around a bit as she thought about that for a moment.
"Don't want to be the pack leader." She said. "Didn't even want to be an NCO. Just wanted to get my criminology and then go CID."
"Didn't wanna be a werewolf either." He said.
"Don't remind me." She shot back.
Dr. Esteves stayed quiet in the drivers seat. Dr. Munro had warned him that Jenkins had a bit of a crush on the Lawyer.
"I didn't want to be a lawyer." He said. She looked over at him in surprise, her head tilting like it did now."Or live in Dakota. But... eh.... you make do."
"Really?" She asked curiously. "What did you want to do?"
He let out a chuckle. "I wanted to be a guitarist." He admitted. "Turns out I'm tone deaf. Aaaaaaand can't keep a beat to save my soul."
"And that..... made you a lawyer?" She asked.
"Eh... more like the tail end of a long series of dominoes." He said. "And it's not like it compares to what you guys are going through." Then he shrugged. "Plus. Like a lot of guys stories. It kinda involves a girl."
"Ah." She said. "Makes sense."
They rode in silence for a while.
"You're handling it well." He said after a while.
She looked over at him curiously.
"The whole... wolf thing." He explained. "I can't imagine what it's like. Losing everything. Even your own instincts."

"Plus them." She said with a wave at the other wolves. "I'm glad you guys let us meet each other. It's nice not to be alone in all of this."

Hey y'all, this is a throw away account because I've gotta vent about this and also get some advice, but I don't want it to be attached to me in real life in case this gets to anyone involved.
I (23F) got in an argument with my mom (51F) a while back about my brother (18M).
For context, I work with teenagers and kids professionally, and in January was fired from my job with no cause provided (where I'm located that's totally legal to do so I don't want to get lost down THAT rabbit hole)
Part of getting fired was being offered severance but only if I signed an NDA basically agreeing to not contact any kids associated with that organization, and to not talk to anyone about the nature in which I was fired except for a few people I got exclusive permission to talk to to get advice.
I didn't want to sign it but I did because financially I couldn't afford not to. Since then I've done really well in healing, and my best friend who still works with that org has helped my former students move on.
Recently, my brother ran into a former student and when asked about why I left told them EVERYTHING. I hadn't even told him what happened so I don't know how he found out. But this student took all of the information to the youth group, and now there's more gossip going around that hurts my former students, as well as the possibility of legal issues down the road because it looks like I broke the NDA.
My best friend told me about this and ask I talk to my mom or him about it so it doesn't happen again. I agreed and called my mom immediately to get it resolved. It started out okay, but then she got defensive and started questioning the legitimacy of my claim. She questioned whether my best friend or the student were telling the truth. I argued back and said I trust both of them because they're both brutally honest about what is going on.
She and I argued a bit more and I ended up lighting up a bit on her. I told her she always does this where she defends my brother no matter what he did, especially when it comes to my career. When my brother was apart of this group he wouldn't listen to my instruction and even scream and cuss at me in front of my bosses and students, but I was always told I must have instigated it, or that I was triggered and trying to control him. When he brought a pocket knife to group and my boss told him to put it away and not bring it again he argued with both my boss and then me, resulting in the same screaming and cussing me out at work. I was told the same thing as last time, and even told that my boss shouldn't have said that or been rude to my brother because he's a new person my brother has never met. And that my brother's anxiety was triggered and we were both feeding it.
There are other incidents I won't go into, but those are the highlights. Everytime something like what I mentioned happened, I'd get in trouble at work because I always made excuses for his actions, and then I'd get in trouble at home for being controlling and not treating him like the other students.
So when this happened even after leaving that job and she still made excuses, I lit off. I asked her if it even mattered to her that I'd get in legal trouble and she changed the subject. When I realized I had made the situation worse by shouting, I tried to apologize and suggest we go to bed and reconnect in the morning after we've cooled off. She told me I can't just back out of the damage I've already done and escape the consequences. And that I was manipulating her by apologizing now and you can't just apologize halfway through.
At this point I put her on mute so she couldn't hear me, and left it on speaker phone while I listened for the next 25 minutes that I had chose that place over family, that I'm out to get my brother, that I threw my brother under the bus, that I've allowed myself to be weaponized against them by other people, etc.
One thing she kept doing was bringing up last trauma and claiming I must be triggered and emotionally damaged after everything that happened years ago.
She always does that. It like he weaponizes my trauma against me as if I haven't matured or grown as a person since I was 20.
She also told me that I have to pick which family I'm going to serve in a line with. And that my actions meant I wasn't aligning with my family. While the phone was on mute I shouted my answer at her so she still couldn't hear me but I can get it out. And it was simply I choose the family that I hand-picked myself. And that means choosing myself first, even if it means going against y'all and y'all's actions.
After this, and some other issues with her like yellin at me the day I had knee surgery because my SO (23M) didn't answer the front door when she came to bring food, or ignoring me the first month I moved out and then complaining that I went on an independence streak and cut her out to mutual friends, I had enough.

It's because he does things carelessly, and he's never ever talked to about it. And I'm always made to apologize whenever I am the one to point these things out.
She constantly talks about how amazing he is, is constantly handing him things in life instead of letting him work for them, and every time we talk on the phone I always hear about how smart and amazing and great and cool he is. But she never ever talks about me or my sister and how amazing we are. We're just kind of her kids that screwed up along the way.
In her 25-minute rant she also compared me to past abusers that I had, saying I was just like them for the way that I was talking about my brother. And she even compared me to my dad which was really ironic for me, because while she was doing that he was actively texting me telling me he loved me and he can't wait to have lunch with me and my SO. My father has apologized for a lot of things that he did in my childhood, but it's like my mom can't even see the things that she did.
After her long message, she also sent me messages about work because we have mutual clients. I replied to her messages about the clients in an email instead of through the text messaging app we use. And I did not acknowledge her message at all. So what is it guys? AITA for ignoring my mom now? Should I give the apology she's waiting for?

I (23F) got in an argument with my mom (51F) a while back about my brother (18M).
For context, I work with teenagers and kids professionally, and in January was fired from my job with no cause provided (where I'm located that's totally legal to do so I don't want to get lost down THAT rabbit hole)
Part of getting fired was being offered severance but only if I signed an NDA basically agreeing to not contact any kids associated with that organization, and to not talk to anyone about the nature in which I was fired except for a few people I got exclusive permission to talk to to get advice.
I didn't want to sign it but I did because financially I couldn't afford not to. Since then I've done really well in healing, and my best friend who still works with that org has helped my former students move on.
Recently, my brother ran into a former student and when asked about why I left told them EVERYTHING. I hadn't even told him what happened so I don't know how he found out. But this student took all of the information to the youth group, and now there's more gossip going around that hurts my former students, as well as the possibility of legal issues down the road because it looks like I broke the NDA.
My best friend told me about this and ask I talk to my mom or him about it so it doesn't happen again. I agreed and called my mom immediately to get it resolved. It started out okay, but then she got defensive and started questioning the legitimacy of my claim. She questioned whether my best friend or the student were telling the truth. I argued back and said I trust both of them because they're both brutally honest about what is going on.
She and I argued a bit more and I ended up lighting up a bit on her. I told her she always does this where she defends my brother no matter what he did, especially when it comes to my career. When my brother was apart of this group he wouldn't listen to my instruction and even scream and cuss at me in front of my bosses and students, but I was always told I must have instigated it, or that I was triggered and trying to control him. Hi all, I know this has been discussed quite a lot but I'm still struggling.
I've had the Aqara G4 for about 4 weeks now. It has been rock solid in every respect - it never drops connection, the video stream loads almost instantly, etc, etc. However, HKSV motion detection basically doesn't work. I have tried (I think) everything and still not having any luck.
Some pertinent info:
However, the bigger issue is that as soon as I am more than maybe 2-3m from the camera, motion detection stops working completely. I have a lot of "motion" going on more than 2m from the camera (family playing in the front yard, etc) but nothing gets detected.

I've had the Aqara G4 for about 4 weeks now. It has been rock solid in every respect - it never drops connection, the video stream loads almost instantly, etc, etc. However, HKSV motion detection basically doesn't work. I have tried (I think) everything and still not having any luck.
Some pertinent info:
- The doorbell is hardwired but also has batteries in
- I have used the aqara app in home kit-only mode and also signed in
- In the aquaria app:
- The "Working Mode" in the aquaria app is "External power supply mode"
- I have set the Motion Detection > Detection Sensitivity to High
- For HKSV settings I have:
- Set to record specific motion and notify when a clip is recorded
- Set it to Time: Any and People: Off
- I have also tested many different combinations of HKSV settings to try and get it to record/notify but no luck
- I am running iOS 16.4 on everything and have used it on the old architecture and just upgraded to the new architecture
- I have two other Aqara G2H cameras on HomeKit and they have also been rock solid, but importantly, their motion detection is excellent! They are both flawless at detecting motion
However, the bigger issue is that as soon as I am more than maybe 2-3m from the camera, motion detection stops working completely. I have a lot of "motion" going on more than 2m from the camera (family playing in the front yard, etc) but nothing gets detected.

- To rule out a product/design issue, has anyone got the doorbell hksv motion detection working flawlessly? Or is everyone having issues of some kind?
- Can anyone think of any other things to try that I haven't listed above?
- Is there something fundamentally different about how the G4 doorbell works vs other aqara cameras when it comes to motion detection that could be the source of the issue?

As a longtime Zelda fan, I have conflicting thoughts about the new vehicle/ weapon creation system in the upcoming game. On one hand, I appreciate the impressive technical feat of implementing such a seamless tool within the game. However, I am concerned about the purpose and necessity of using these vehicles in the game. I have crossed Hyrule many times without any issues using only my own hands and a paraglider. That was quite an intimate and immersive experience. So, why would I need to use a vehicle now?
I understand that the developers may have intended for us to be inventive with the vehicle creation system in order to reach new islands, which sounds like a great idea. However, from what we have seen so far, there appear to be very few islands to explore, which leaves me feeling unsatisfied.
Nintendo's frustrating marketing strategy has left us with very little information about the game. We don't know if there will be any dungeons, what the plot or goals of the game are, or how much real change Hyrule has experienced. The only thing we do know is that there's a new item creation and vehicle creation system, which admittedly looks pretty cool.
While I appreciate the innovation and the pushing of sandbox game possibilities forward, it still feels like Zelda is taking a step back. As a fan of the series, I hope I am wrong in my assessment, and the game will prove to be satisfying upon its release.
That being said, I'm still optimistic and hopeful that the game will surprise me in a good way. However, as a longtime Zelda fan, my concerns are still there. So, I'm reaching out to my fellow fans for help. What do you think? Do you share the same worries or do you have a different perspective? I'd love to hear your thoughts and rebuttals against my pessimistic thoughts about the game.

Coming up on 20 years. Second marriage for both of us. Children Hers 1 (26)mine 2 (25)-(22) and ours (18). I am no saint. My first marriage I had an affair. It was a bad marriage almost from the start that I think lack of self esteem for both of us kept us in for 12 years. Yes the children came later in that marriage. We dated briefly and married 4 months into. I work long hours and occasionally out of town. The first time was shortly after the birth of our son. I can’t exactly remember how I found out but I believe it was the phone. 2008 happens with the housing market, She ruptures several discs in her back, my industry goes out on strike. We lose everything. Through marriage counseling (many weeks and many counselors) we worked through it. We’re both alcoholics (functional) at the time and both have tough childhoods. Several years later an old girlfriend reaches out to me and pretty much have an emotional affair. I get caught ( phone again) and I am confronted. I admit to it and never slept with her but of course that isn’t believed. I stop and continue counseling to try to fix what is broken. I quit alcohol and attend meetings (NA) to figure out what’s the behavior that I’m trying to medicate.
We both dive into work and she gets involved with a non profit organization. There’s always fundraising events and mixers that I’m never around to attend with her and of course alcohol. I end up going on location out of state for 8 weeks. Things are ok at the time and we have connection while I’m out of town. Calling almost daily. Life’s good 👏 so I thought. While I’m out of town she starts hanging around a friend who’s an alcoholic and was going around hooking up on hook up sights and constantly boasting on all the fucking she’s getting. One weekend before I come home the wife is unavailable. I always seem to get “gut” feelings with this stuff. I come home and after a week or two I see her phone on the table and decide to look. Talks of having to cool it with someone on the board of directors as to not raise suspicions. And a sleepover with my husband calling over and over. Life Blows up and I confront. Denies denies denies. I’m paranoid. Turns it around and never admits it. Again more work on myself Months later my wife tests positive for the breast cancer gene and with her strong family history decides to have a double mastectomy. At the time she was helping an elderly couple and had befriended this family. They lover her like a daughter. One of their children committed suicide and had another son in their family. This goes on for months and everything seemed ok as she even took our youngest over for visits. Surgery after surgery with reconstruction and still helping this family one day the youngest son commits suicide. My wife is devastated. She’s blaming herself for it because she was the last one to see him alive. She said that he wasn’t doing well and needed someone to talk to. Truth be told it was right after they had lunch together and she told him that she wanted to give me one last chance because I was turning my life around and I was a good man. He went home and shot himself.
The mother was calling hysterically, and that she couldn’t get a hold of her son. My wife and over to the apartment and the door was locked so she called the police. The police went in and everybody found him. For weeks and weeks hysterics sobbing and all the time I was there telling her it wasn’t her fault. She couldn’t have stopped him when somebody decides to do that you can’t change their mind. She wasn’t invited to the funeral. The family was blaming her, and I had no idea why.
Several months later, I was out of town and I heard on the ring camera her in the kitchen with a friend telling her how much she loved him and how crushed she was. So I decided to confront her asking her. Did you love him she replied, not the way you think he was there for me and made me believe in myself I said all that time I was consoling you telling you it wasn’t your fault staying up with you all night with your pain and your tears, you were having an affair with him boy did I feel stupid. She finally decided to get sober.
She started a program. She realize that driving the children around and being a drunk wife wasn’t good I just see my life changed for the better. She wanted the same. So here we are five years later we moved out of state I still work in California. I drive home on weekends unless there’s work. AGAIN…… there’s that gut feeling. Shortly after the new year I realize there was car had come by. I figured it was one of the clients from her work didn’t think much of it came over a few times as a matter fact OK maybe it’s work related. At one point this gentleman came over she invited them in and about two hours later he left with her saying bye love. This weekend or should I say this past weekend I look at the camera and lo and behold at 11 o’clock at night on Friday there is This guy is coming over and she goes out to the car with him and brings him in to my house. He leaves at 6 o’clock in the morning, The next day, the same person brings a package over to the house and goes to walk in like he owns the place. With the front door locked he goes to enter the apartment in the front ,both locked. She comes outside goes to the car or somebody else’s and five minutes later comes back in the house.
I noticed her wedding ring isn’t on all the time on the ring camera and of course, her texts and her passwords are none of my business. I’m starting to go distant. I know this is marriage is done. I keep getting asked what’s wrong what’s wrong but I’m not gonna do this long-distance. I’m not gonna do it over the phone. I’m going confront her at home. I guess this is a long story, but I’m looking for advice how do I confront her? Do I give her enough to her to hang her self or do I just straight out say I know what you’re doing and see what happens and then lay out the proof. With work slowing down and the possibility of a strike I may have to stay in the apartment until the dust settles but until then , until Saturday I have to play nice and try not to raise any ideas. Trying to install shallow floating shelves (depth is like 3.5 in). Length is around 50 in. ( Shelf is 3/4 in thick). Basically trying to figure out what size brackets I need. I’ve been googling and seeing conflicting things about how L brackets work (some say long side go under the shelf, others say it goes on the wall) and thus can’t figure out the size I need. TIA!

Cody looks exhausted as he gets up but is drop kicked by Balor into the corner. Balor climbs the ropes and goes for the Coup De Grace but Cody dodges and quickly gets up and hits Cross Rhodes. Balor rolls out of the ring as Cody is on his knee while LA Knight quickly gets behind Cody, pulls him up and hits the BFT and covers Cody

LA Knight is the new WWE Undisputed Universal Champion
On the next Raw there is a championship celebration with LA Knight rapidly saying yeah and drinking champagne reciting his shoes of a champion promo. Cody Rhodes then comes out and congratulates Knight on his title win but tells him that he will be coming for him to get his titles back. Adam Pearce then comes and says that he has been trying to get a hold of LA Knight to tell him that the Money in the Bank contract specifically says that the briefcase allows for only one world title. Pearce continues saying that he has to ask Knight to handback one of the belts. LA Knight looks defeated and says that he will only drop one of the belts but only if he gets a match for the WWE Championship. Finn Balor then comes out and says that if anyone deserves a title match that it is him and climbs into the ring and gets into the face of LA Knight. Cody says that he doesn't care how many people want a rematch. I'll face Balor and Knight next week to defend my WWE Championship and after I defeat you both will beat Knight again to reclaim my Universal Championship.
The following week on Raw in the main event the triple threat ends with Cody pinning Knight after countering the BFT into a Cross Rhodes for the pin.
Cody Rhodes and LA Knights feud continues into Survivor series where in the opening match LA Knight puts his Universal Championship on the line against Rhodes. In the aftermath of the match LA Knight defeats Rhodes to retain his Universal Championship and becomes Smackdowns top champion while Cody focuses his WWE Title run on Raw being their top champion.

Mr Money in the bank, LA Knight sprints to the ring with the MITB and cashes in. Cody, using the ropes, pulls himself up as the ref rings the bell. Knight charges Rhodes but Cody reverses into a Cross Rhodes and covers him for the pin
1..2.. But LA Knight gets his shoulder up and rolls underneath the bottom rope.
Cody looks exhausted as he gets up but is drop kicked by Balor into the corner. Balor climbs the ropes and goes for the Coup De Grace but Cody dodges and quickly gets up and hits Cross Rhodes. Balor rolls out of the ring as Cody is on his knee while LA Knight quickly gets behind Cody, pulls him up and hits the BFT and covers Cody

LA Knight is the new WWE Undisputed Universal Champion
On the next Raw there is a championship celebration with LA Knight rapidly saying yeah and drinking champagne reciting his shoes of a champion promo. Cody Rhodes then comes out and congratulates Knight on his title win but tells him that he will be coming for him to get his titles back. Adam Pearce then comes and says that he has been trying to get a hold of LA Knight to tell him that the Money in the Bank contract specifically says that the briefcase allows for only one world title. Pearce continues saying that he has to ask Knight to handback one of the belts. LA Knight looks defeated and says that he will only drop one of the belts but only if he gets a match for the WWE Championship. Finn Balor then comes out and says that if anyone deserves a title match that it is him and climbs into the ring and gets into the face of LA Knight. Cody says that he doesn't care how many people want a rematch. I'll face Balor and Knight next week to defend my WWE Championship and after I defeat you both will beat Knight again to reclaim my Universal Championship.
The following week on Raw in the main event the triple threat ends with Cody pinning Knight after countering the BFT into a Cross Rhodes for the pin.
Cody Rhodes and LA Knights feud continues into Survivor series where in the opening match LA Knight puts his Universal Championship on the line against Rhodes. In the aftermath of the match LA Knight defeats Rhodes to retain his Universal Championship and becomes Smackdowns top champion while Cody focuses his WWE Title run on Raw being their top champion.
