This makes no sense. Local news is adorable.
I have so many questions.
A few: Did the scammer order $788 worth of merchandise from Walmart and have it delivered to the victim? Why didn't the news team ask the owner of the parking lot about this? Was there a surveillance camera showing the scammers placing the fake QR code on the sign? Was there even a fake QR code on the sign?

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A woman claims to have received a charge from Walmart after scanning a QR code to pay for parking in downtown Lafayette.
Martha Gale’s daughter, Kinly, came to the parking lot in downtown Lafayette near the intersection of Buchanan Street and Garfield Street to park her car and enjoy an event in Parc Lafayette.
She got out her car and walked to a QR code sign to pay. Everything seemed okay until the next morning when she got a large delivery from Walmart that she never bought.
“I see a boat load of merchandise from Walmart, then I checked the app on the cell phone, and it was a purchase for $788 which I did not purchase,” said Gale.
With no other reason for this to happen, Gale believes her credit card information was stolen after her daughter scanned the code on the sign in the parking lot.
“I absolutely think we were scammed,” she said. “That was the last purchase that occurred at the pay lot and then the Sunday morning receiving these products at the door.”
News 10 spoke with the president of Better Business Bureau, Chris Babin, who said this is a scam the organization is familiar with.
“Scammers are trying to use those codes (to) lure consumers into going to websites, submitting payment information and giving their payment information away to scammers,” Babin said.
Babin believes a scammer may have created a QR Code that goes to a website that mirrors one where you would potentially pay for parking or makes it look legitimate.
“You scan the QR code thinking you are paying to park, but you are submitting payment information on a scam website that’s going to a scammer providing them with your card information,” Babin said.
Babin advised if you pay to park, make sure the lot requires payment using a QR code. He also advises people to take an extra minute to look at the website you are sent to before entering your payment information.

MD 1978 - Northern LA, extreme southeast Arkansas and into central MS

SUMMARY...A PDS tornado watch will be needed by 19z/1pm CT for portions of northern Louisiana, extreme southeast Arkansas and into central Mississippi. Tornadoes, a couple potentially long-track and strong, large hail and damaging gusts will be possible into the evening hours.

MD 1979 - Southeast TX

SUMMARY...An isolated thunderstorm or two may produce hail and gusty winds across southeast TX this afternoon. A watch is not expected at this time.

MD 1980 - extreme southeast MS into southwest AL

SUMMARY...A brief supercell or two may pose a severe threat the next couple of hours. However, coverage and aerial extent of the threat is expected to be low, and a watch is not anticipated in the short-term.

MD 1981 - northeast LA into central MS

SUMMARY...Increasing potential for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes exists across northeast LA into central MS over the next few hours.

MD 1982 - Parts of northern and central Alabama

SUMMARY...A downstream tornado watch is likely for parts of northern/central Alabama as severe storms move out of MS.

MD 1983 - for portions of far southeast Mississippi into far southwest Alabama

SUMMARY...A severe threat may increase across southern portions of Mississippi and Alabama over the next few hours. The more intense storms may support hail/tornado threat. Conditions are being monitored for the need of a Tornado Watch.

' A young, Shreveport, Louisiana rapper has used his talents to show love to his friends who have fell victim to gun violence and the age of the rapper coupled with the content of his music have created an emotionally viral moment.

Ray Da Yungin made the song and visuals for “Miss You” in memory of one of his closest friends, 12-year-old Xavier Perry, who was shot and killed last month. What makes this so impactful is that Ray comes from the state with one of the highest homicide rates in the country. The video resonated so well in his community, Ray was requested for an interview with a local news station called KLFY to talk about the video.

“If people just put the guns down and stopped the violence, people could do more than what they’re already doing,” said Ray Da Yungin. '

Banks was previously identified as “John Doe 45.” Banks was sentenced to prison in April after pleading guilty to two charges involving transporting child pornography.
According to the federal prosecutors, Banks sexually abused his 9-month-old biological daughter, created digital videos of the abuse, and traded several of the images with someone he met in an online room dedicated to sexually abusing animals. The person with whom the defendant swapped images was located in Tennessee."

Sally Ann Hines, a fifty-eight-year-old Native woman and member of the Seaconke Wampanoag tribe, was reported missing by her husband out of San Antonio, Texas on December 14th, 2017, after he woke up and found her gone. After further investigation, it was found that Hines had left the house at 3 AM that morning, wearing street clothes but no shoes. However, all of her important belongings, such as her purse, her medication, and her phone, were found to still be in the house. The medication in question was anti-rejection medication for a liver transplant that she had received six years prior, which could be lethal if untreated. The liver transplant in combination with struggles with her thyroid left Sally physically weakened, and she had trouble walking long distances. She also reportedly struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder and self-medicated with illicit drugs. Hines' relationship with her husband was said to be toxic, and relatives often tried to get Sally to distance herself from him.
A few months later, in the middle of March of 2018, workers cleaning up trash in the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge off of Louisiana Highway 27 near Hackberry, made a grisly discovery: a badly decomposed human skull in a bag. Officers scanned the surrounding area for more evidence but were unable to find the rest of the person's remains. It was later determined that the head belonged to a white woman about 25-40 (though other sources stated 30-50), likely of Hispanic ancestry, who had 'extensive' dental work and auburn hair. Despite being separated from her body, the woman's head had no obvious trauma. Her death was considered suspicious in nature. They determined that she had likely died about six weeks before being discovered. A forensic team at Louisiana State University created a DNA profile and charted the woman's dental records, neither of which received any hits.
Meanwhile, authorities in San Antonio found no leads on Sally Hines' disappearance and the case quickly grew cold. Loved ones, including her husband and sister, made pleas through the media for her to come back, though no evidence was found pointing to her whereabouts.
In early 2019, the forensic team at Louisiana State created a reconstruction of the woman found in Sabine Wildlife Refuge, depicting a middle-aged woman with wavy auburn hair and dark brown eyes. It was this reconstruction that lead to her identification. Two years later, the reconstruction caught the eye of a private citizen, who scrolled through dozens of missing person profiles hoping to find a match. Though she was older than the unidentified woman, Sally Hines had an undeniable resemblance to the reconstruction, which prompted them to send in an anonymous tip. Investigators agreed with the tipster and retrieved Sally's dental records, which were a match to the unidentified woman in Louisiana.
Hackberry is almost three hundred and fifty miles (or five hundred and sixty-three kilometers) away from where Sally disappeared, and her health conditions made it almost impossible that she walked much of that.
Though no longer missing, the question remains: what happened to Sally Hines?

Madeleine Rivera reports from New Orleans with an update on the aftermath of the deadly storm.
More than 100 men say they are stranded on a drill ship in the Gulf of Mexico after Hurricane Ida battered the area, and they don’t know when they’ll be rescued.
"I mean I was watching grown men with life jackets hold on for dear life crying in the hallway. It was bad" one anonymous crew member told KLFY News Ten.
Crew on the Noble’s Globetrotter II drill ship, which is located about 100 miles from Louisiana’s shore, said they rode out the storm as 80 foot waves and 150 mile an hour winds battered the ship. The crew said Noble Corporation and Shell were supposed to rescue them, but help never arrived.
"Being on the top deck, you can look through the glass and see the bottom of the rig at certain points in time. We had 60-80 foot seas that we were getting hit with, so the boat was sideways, getting pretty much capsized in the water. Someway, somehow we didn’t flip" he said.
The ship is now taking on water, and they can’t go outside because it’s "too dangerous out there" as the storm left broken cranes, electrical wires and chemicals in its wake, according to the crew member.
The anonymous crew member said Noble Corporation and Shell only contacted them about evacuation efforts the morning the storm was set to hit.
"They got with us too late. We tried to run away, but it was right on tail. There was no running from it, so we got hit with the full force" he told News Ten.
Now, the crew member said that Shell and Noble have not stayed in contact with the ship and they have no idea when they will be rescued.
"Nobody’s telling us anything. I know we’re taking in water in the back, and we don’t know what’s going on- if helps coming or when it’s coming."

About a month ago I posted Haiti is on the verge of a complete meltdown. Needless to say, the meltdown is now happening.
Let's get something out of the way: I will not shed a tear for Haiti's late President Jovenel Moïse.

Prime Minister Claude Joseph said a group of people attacked the president's private residence and killed him, calling it an "odious, barbaric" act. "Haiti has lost a true statesman who was committed to progressing our country's democratic transition and fighting corruption," Joseph said.

None of that is true, except that the president was killed. He was corrupt. He was a murderer. He personally caused many of Haiti's current problems. If anything, there is a small chance that this could turn out to be what Haiti needed.
The problem is that just when you think things can't get any worse in Haiti, things can always get worse in Haiti. A state of siege was declared. Haiti's airports are closed, as is its border with the Dominican Republic.
But fear not! The United States knows what's important - our exports.

Unrest on the island nation of Haiti — especially after the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse — has La. Rep. Clay Higgins concerned about the state of U.S. rice shipments to the country. Higgins sent a letter to the U.S. State Department’s Acting Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor “calling for increased assistance in securing U.S. rice and other food shipments in Haiti,” according to a press release from Higgins’ office today. “Haiti is the top market for U.S.-grown milled rice and has been a loyal and growing market for many years, and the people of Haiti have a strong demand for our product,” stated Higgins in his letter. “In recent years, we have shipped about 450,000 metric tons of rice valued at more than $200 million to Haiti annually. Unfortunately, the unrest has made unloading rice shipments in Haiti difficult and dangerous. Because of the value of rice as a staple food in Haiti, shipments are prioritized as targets by local gangs and even hired, armed security is unable to prevent theft. These armed robberies often result in the shipment not being delivered to its intended destination.”

There are two BIG ironies in this one statement. First of all, the murder of President of Haiti Vilbrun Guillaume Sam by insurgents in 1915 was just the excuse used for the U.S. invasion of occupation of Haiti 1915-1934. The real reason was Wall Street greed.

In 1914, National City Bank and BNRH began to plan the destabilization of Haiti in order to pressure the United States to intervene. John H. Allen of BNRH stated that if the United States permanently occupied Haiti, he supported National City Bank acquiring all shares of BNRH, believing that it would "pay 20% or better"... United States Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan relied on an executive and lobbyist of National City Bank, Roger Farnham, for information regarding Haiti. Farnham persuaded Secretary Bryan to have the United States invade Haiti during a telephone call on January 22, 1914.

So American businessmen asking for yet another invasion of poor Haiti because the American-supported president of Haiti got himself killed by being way too corrupt, is way too familiar.
Secondly, and this is the big one, concern about U.S. rice shipments to Haiti is disgusting given our history here.

A leading aid agency has called on the United States to stop subsidising American rice exports to Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere, because it says the policy undermines local production of food. Former US President Bill Clinton, one of the architects of the subsidies to US farmers - and who is now, paradoxically, the co-chair of Haiti's earthquake recovery Commission - is quoted by Oxfam as saying that the policy was "a mistake". "It may have been good for some of my farmers in Arkansas, but it has not worked," said Mr Clinton, a frequent visitor to Haiti. "I have to live every day with the consequences of the lost capacity to produce a rice crop in Haiti to feed those people, because of what I did." The aid agency says the $434m (£274m) paid annually in domestic US rice subsidies is more than the total US aid to Haiti of $353m. The Oxfam report said subsidies paid to American farmers meant the rice they export to Haiti - known locally as Riz Miami or "Miami Rice" - is cheaper than locally produced rice. The foreign rice that is "dumped" in Haiti therefore exacerbates the rural-urban drift that has seen the population of the capital Port-au-Prince balloon out of control as farmers who cannot feed themselves move to the city in search of employment.

To use our rice exports to Haiti as an excuse to invade and occupy Haiti yet again is just criminal.

The chief of police in Kaplan, about 87 miles southwest of Baton Rouge, said Officer Steven Aucoin commented under a local news station's live feed of the governor's coronavirus news conference on May 15.
"Well it didn't work," Aucoin wrote, "How unfortunate," according to screenshots shown by KLFY.The police department said in a statement on its Facebook page that it was made aware of Aucoin's comments.
Aucoin had worked previously for the department for eight months and had been back on the force for about three months before he was let go, a spokeswoman for the police department told NBC News.Hardy said the department does not tolerate such behavior.
"There were some other comments further up that was also not suitable for a police officer to be putting on Facebook," Hardy said.
Aucoin's firing was welcomed by many commenters on the department's Facebook page.
