The Future of Taxi Services: The Role of Dispatch Systems

The Future of Taxi Services: The Role of Dispatch Systems
The taxi industry is evolving, and dispatch systems are at the forefront of this change. Find out how these systems are transforming the way taxi services operate and what it means for the future.
The taxi industry has undergone significant changes in recent years with the rise of ride-sharing services and the increasing use of technology. One of the key innovations in this space is the taxi dispatch system, which is transforming the way taxi services operate. In this blog, we'll explore what these systems are, how they work, and what they mean for the future of the taxi industry.
What Are Taxi Dispatch Systems, And How Do They Work?
Taxi dispatch systems are software platforms that allow taxi companies to manage their fleets more efficiently. These systems use real-time data to match passengers with available drivers, taking into account factors like location, traffic, and driver availability. Dispatch systems also provide drivers with turn-by-turn directions and other useful information, such as passenger pickup and drop-off locations. This helps to reduce wait times for passengers and increase the number of fares drivers can complete in a given period. Overall, dispatch systems are helping to make taxi services more reliable, efficient, and convenient for both passengers and drivers.
How Might A Taxi Dispatch System Assist A Flourishing Startup?
Here are some benefits of purchasing a taxi dispatch system for your business:
Greater Visibility
Customers can use the taxi dispatch system to book a cab in under a minute. The inconvenience of waiting for a cab is therefore removed. It increases your visibility right away and brings more customers to your company.
Real-time Location Tracking
With the help of the taxi dispatch system, passengers may track the driver's precise location in real-time. The driver can use it to see the passenger's location and choose the shortest route. A reduction in time and fuel consumption raises client satisfaction.
Integrity
With the right software, users can track the driver's actual location and receive real-time updates on their reservations. The user experience and customer satisfaction consequently increase.
Statics Relating To The Taxi Business
According to estimates, the taxi industry's global income is predicted to reach US$385,942 million by 2025.
The top revenue producer in 2020 was thought to be China, which brought in US$47,438.
Approximately 20 billion miles have been traveled so far.
It's time to examine the difficulties taxi businesses are currently facing.
Benefits Of Taxi Dispatch Systems For Taxi Companies And Drivers
Taxi dispatch systems offer numerous benefits for both taxi companies and drivers. For companies, these systems help to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction. By using real-time data to match passengers with available drivers, dispatch systems can help reduce wait times and increase the number of fares completed. This can lead to higher profits for taxi companies and better earnings for drivers. Additionally, dispatch systems can help to improve driver safety by providing turn-by-turn directions and other useful information. For drivers, dispatch systems offer greater flexibility and control over their work schedules, as well as access to more fares and potential earnings. Overall, dispatch systems are playing a key role in the evolution of the taxi industry, helping to make it more efficient, reliable, and convenient for everyone involved.
Advantages For Passengers, Including Improved Safety And Convenience
Dispatch systems are beneficial not only for taxi companies and drivers but also for passengers. With real-time data and GPS tracking, dispatch systems can provide passengers with accurate wait times and estimated arrival times. This can help reduce frustration and anxiety for passengers, as they can plan their travel more effectively. Additionally, dispatch systems can improve passenger safety by providing information about the driver and vehicle, such as license plate numbers and driver ratings. This can help passengers feel more secure when using taxi services. Overall, dispatch systems are helping to make taxi services more convenient and safer for passengers.
Challenges And Potential Drawbacks Of Implementing Dispatch Systems
While dispatch systems offer many benefits to the taxi industry, there are also some challenges and potential drawbacks to consider. One challenge is the cost of implementing and maintaining these systems, which can be significant for smaller taxi companies. Additionally, there may be resistance from drivers who are used to operating independently and may feel that dispatch systems limit their autonomy. Finally, there is the potential for technical issues or system failures, which could disrupt service and lead to customer dissatisfaction. Despite these challenges, many taxi companies are recognizing the benefits of dispatch systems and are investing in this technology to stay competitive in the evolving industry.
The Future Of Taxi Services And The Role Of Dispatch Systems In Shaping It
Dispatch systems are playing a crucial role in shaping the future of taxi services. These systems allow for more efficient and streamlined operations, with real-time tracking and dispatching of vehicles. They also provide valuable data and analytics that can be used to improve service and customer satisfaction. As the industry continues to evolve, dispatch systems will likely become even more important, with new technologies such as autonomous vehicles and ride-sharing platforms driving further innovation. While there are challenges to implementing these systems, the benefits they offer are clear, and taxi companies that invest in them are likely to stay ahead of the curve in the years to come.
How Do I Pick The Ideal Taxi Dispatch System?

How Do I Pick The Ideal Taxi Dispatch System
It might be challenging to find the ideal taxi dispatch system. Here are some things to think about when selecting a software program:
  • Requirements and expectations of the user
  • Software created with feature-rich technology that is also cost-effective
Conclusion
Mobile applications opened the door for a new revolution in the transportation sector when customers began choosing flexibility in booking and cashless payments. The proprietors rely on the cab dispatch software due to its affordability, streamlined workflows, and enhanced customer service quality. It also offers white-labeled taxi apps in a variety of languages, giving you the option for extensive customization to represent your business. Being technologically proficient is essential for survival in this cutthroat transportation sector.

Easiest color / type of paint /etc to get a good result for an amateur?
I just got a black 92 Toyota pickup with: a 4runner front clip, miss matched panels, bit of rust, etc. I want to take a stab at repainting it, just a quicky job, nothing too detailed/time consuming.
Gloss / semi / mate / etc? or what about doing the entire thing in a stone/gravel guard texture?

Anyone got any good tips on wrapping the area between cab and bed on a pickup? I'm doing my 16 f150 and I can't really get back far for enough coverage. Im wrapping blue/black iridescent shift on a black truck so not huge deal but I'd like to get back further. I was thinking of loosening the bed and just shifting it back couple inches to reach but if there's other tips I'd like to hear em

2023.06.01 07:08 Logical-Slice-3976 At what point in my career is do I replace my vehicle?

My wife and I are a few years out of college, and in our professional careers as engineers. I grew up with the mindset you drive a vehicle until the repairs are more than the value. I paid cash for my truck in college and it just hit 400k and going strong. The issue is the extended cab only fits one car seat and we have 2 kids. So we have to take my wife's care everywhere and only she can do daycare. I do feel some jealousy because she's had 3 cars due to collisions and mechanical problems. When and How do I justify replacing my truck?

2023.06.01 03:53 doctor_FLman Dead cylinder- compression good, spark verified… does it have to be fuel then?

Hey, I have an old 94 Toyota pickup. 22 RE. It’s been misfiring. I pulled each individual spark, plug, and determined that the fourth chamber isn’t firing.
I verified the spark. I did a compression test which was normal.
Does this eliminate the issue to a bad fuel injector? Haven’t checked yet since they’re hard to reach.

2023.06.01 02:48 AMeowIn What's a good spot for a rental bus pickup?

We're celebrating our wedding out of the city this summer. Because we're expecting some of our guests to drink, we're renting a bus to pick them up here in Toronto and then drop them back off at the end of the night. The bus company asked us for an address for pickup and drop off. What would be a good spot? We're looking for somewhere maybe with an open parking lot where the bus could stop, and hopefully close to TTC or cab stops, so people have an easier time getting there and back. We are also not sure if there are any restrictions on where a rental bus could stop for pickup. Any tips are appreciated!

2023.06.01 01:27 goosegead11 Not having money to get fun things sucks.

My situation is one where I know I’ve got it good- money for food, rent is paid, roof over head and functional nice vehicles. I’m privileged and I do know it.
But I previously had a high paying job, in a high cost of living area. Which is its own thing- yes I had a large income but I was still spending money left and right trying to keep up.
Anyways, now my family is on one income due to life changes. And in many ways, I appreciate where we’re at very much. We waste less, we have less coming in so significantly less clutter etc. that feels good.
But sometimes it just feels like a bummer. It’s summertime where I’m at and I went out looking for that little summer crap that’s out now- I bought 2 water guns, a nerf gun and a riding scooter. The prices felt close to outright insanity. The nerf gun was around 20 dollars, it isn’t super large and I bought extra nerf bullets because 6 isn’t enough and that was an additional 12 dollars. The scooter was around 30 bucks, so not too bad.
In my past life I would have just gone to wherever was easiest (not driven all the way out to gross Walmart) and thrown anything and everything into the cart. Expensive Lego sets and all types of shit we didn’t need.
For me, it did feel great to do that. It was a rush and I’m sure I’m mentally ill in some facet - and I’m a stuff person, my love language is gifts and I’m like a bird I like shiny things. I also just absolutely love giving my kid little stuff that brings a smile to his face- like even if it was just a short burst of pleasure- that was very satisfying to me. I know it’s probably bad to be this way. I’m probably being taught a lesson from the universe.
So anyways- I bought 2 toners at Ulta, one to use and a back up. They were about 13 dollars each (The Ordinary glycolic toner, good stuff) and my god if I don’t feel guilty about it but I see a huge improvement in my skin when I use it and I wanted it.
Feeling crappy over cheap toner isn’t a good feeling. Again, I used to just blow money at Sephora that you wouldn’t believe. I can hardly believe it now. Literally hundreds of dollars a month. Now I feel like garbage. I feel like a garbage human for even thinking about this stuff.
I don’t want to complain about my situation. I have more than a lot of people. It’s a feeling I extend to everyone- I want every kid everywhere to have the joy of a nerf gun.
Things also can feel so weird now because I think we appear a lot more financially well off then we are now. We have nicer cars (long paid off) and a lot of nice quality shit that I bought when I had money. People seem to lean on me to always pickup the lunch tab or pay for activities and it’s really uncomfortable because at the place we’re at- we shouldn’t be affording those things.
Ultimately I just want to say to anyone living similarly, that I’m sorry. Expendable income literally is just fun. I want to give you all a nerf guns. I want to give your kids shiny balloons and tiny bits of “stuff” joy.
I have much more of an understanding of the choices many people are confronted with every day now. I know some people would have had to put the toys back for food and that makes me so sad. Life is hard enough.

2023.06.01 01:22 Kyle05sti A tale of two Tundras

A tale of two Tundras
Hi all. Joined this sub a few weeks ago and have been lurking. Seems like good people here so I figured I'd make a post to share my questionable decision making.
I had been looking at picking up a used truck for a while and landed on the 1st gen Tundra/Sequoia platform. I want reliability and don't need anything too tempting to modify as I already have project cars (currently resromodding a 1977 Celica).
I ended up finding a 2003 Tundra SR5 V8 4WD with 211k miles that needs some TLC. I don't mind wrenching to give an old truck a new life, so I went for it. The frame was replaced under the recall and it's solid, but the bed is trash and the cab has significant rocker panel rust. It runs and drives great though, has decent maintenance history, and everything works. I've already taken care of a few drivability and deferred maintenance items. Need to address a few more things but it's basically ready to go another 100k+.
I started looking for a replacement bed, and came across a 2001 SR5 V6 RWD with 115k and a grenaded transmission. It's really clean for a rust belt truck and my initial plan was to swap the bed and possibly even the cab. The more I looked over the 01, the less I could bring myself to use it as a parts truck.
I can't just drop a used transmission in because it's a 2001 RWD V6 and uses a variant of the A340E with a physical throttle linkage cable that isn't shared by the 4WD, or V8, or 03-06 trucks, or any other platform. It's discontinued from Toyota, not available from LKQ, and currently not listed within a reasonable distance on eBay or car-part.
After some consideration, I ended up dropping the transmission off at a local expert shop to be rebuilt. I would also entertain a manual swap as I know it was an option for the V6 Tundra, but haven't looked into it too much yet. I'm going to get it up and running one way or another.
I only need one truck and need to stay focused on other long term projects. I haven't decided which I'm keeping but will be driving the 03 while I get the 01 up and running. I figure I can then drive both for a month or two and see which I prefer. I do feel like I'd be less tempted to modify the V6...but I'm already aware of and watching for a deal on the TRD Supercharger, so we'll see how that works out.
Either way, I look forward to learning from y'all. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, hit me with them!

2023.06.01 00:45 furiousbobb Best way to clean lots of sludge?

Ok here's the deal. I just pulled a 2.8L V6 out of my 1990 Trooper. I'm dropping in a 3.4L V6 but I need to re-use some of the parts of the old motor ( starter, timing chain cover, dizzy, etc ). But they are CAKED in 30 years of oil, road grime and sludge.
I work out of a 1 car garage attached to my 1 bedroom apartment. Although there is a utility sink in the laundry room, it is communal and I probably shouldn't load it up with grime. I don't have a water spout, just the sink in the laundry room. I do have a 3.5 gallon parts washer coming in the mail but I'm not sure if it's up for the task. What I've done in the past is get a large sterilite container, a garden sprayer and some simple green concentrate ( 1:1 mix with water ) but this gets kinda messy.
Is there an alternative method for cleaning this crud off? I've also tried Dep's floor stripper concentrate ( mixed 1:1 as well ) but it doesn't seem to do the trick.
Maybe load the motor up in the back of my pickup and take it to the coin-op wash?

2023.05.31 22:46 sorati_rose [WTS][KY] Replica EOTech, Replica ACOG, CYMA MP5K, KSC Mini Uzi, WE G18C Gen 4 upgraded, M4 Midcaps (+ other guns if you can do local pickup)

Howdy, long time buyer first time seller. Unfortunately SHTF for me financially in the past week due to being furloughed (and will stay that way for some time), and I need to sell of just about everything airsoft related I have bought since the new year. I'm effectively treating my situation as a quitting airsoft thing (if you can count not even playing a single game as being in airsoft) and plan to gradually list more and more as time goes til I'm recalled to work or things go even further south. Unless picked up 2nd hand (will specify if it has been), everything has been a catch and release, nothing has ever been fielded, just plinked around with and fired a few shots to make sure internals were working. Can provide more pics or firing videos if requested. Unfortunately I don't have a chrono, so I am unable to provide up to date FPS measurements. Since I'm cash strapped, prices aren't exactly firm and might not include costs of shipping (been selling on eBay recently, shipping is insane a lot of the time, especially for heavier things like airsoft would be).
https://imgur.com/a/CFG9b91
CYMA MP5K package - $230 - Beautifully well made MP5K bought from Taiwangun back in March. It's a blue edition so it already comes with better internals, but no MOSFET. The handguard was replaced for a rail system that offers more battery space than the stock one. Includes 65 rd midcap, small foregrip, and a small pistol sight made by OspreyScopes. Would prefer to keep the set together, but I'm willing to split the red dot since it is a pricey one.
KWC CO2 Mini Uzi - $130 - Catch and release from this subreddit, have only had it less than a month. This is for the airsoft version and not the dangerous airgun version. Has seen some use and has cosmetic wear around the charging slide and mag. The mag is boneyard, the feeding lip at the top is chipped and won't feed into the gun. The CO2 casing is dented and the screw is kind of stripped. It can screw back in but not without difficulty. I have been able to test the GBB system since this is open bolt, and man it would be so much fun to use, it does kickback a good bit even from dry firing. As a disclaimer, I do believe the internals of the gun are functioning and that it's only the mag that is causing it to not fire. If you buy this from me, you must understand that if you buy/have a new mag for this gun and it still doesn't fire that I was none the wiser and not my fault.
*PENDING* WE Tech G18C Gen 4 w/ upgrades - $215 - Another catch and release from this subreddit. Includes the gun, extra rear grip, x2 23 rd GG mags, x3 48 rd GG extended mags. The extended mags of cosmetic wear around the feeding portion of the mag, but not visible when put into the mag well. Unfortunately the original post for the gun is gone, so I do not have specifics about what was changed, however I do believe all the internals had been changed before, save maybe the trigger (a trigger was a bit mushy from my experience). The gun shot perfectly before, however the pin for the mag release came undone and I haven't been able to get it back into place, so I'm unable to load it or make a shooting video of this gun. Selling as a whole lot, but willing to separate the extended mags into one sale with all 3 of them together.
Replica EOTech + Protector - $95 - An excellent and lightweight repro of an EOTech in tan. Comes with the protector, and I'll toss in a couple of batteries for it. For being something lightweight, shipping is included in the cost.
* PENDING* Replica ACOG - $80 - A great repro of an ACOG sight. Fiber optic is in working condition and has a great sight picture for longer ranges.
MAG 130rd M4 Midcap bundle - $70 - A lot of 8 STANAG midcaps in grey, never used, made of polymer. Not separating. Shipping included in the cost since they're lightweight.
THE BELOW GUNS ARE GOING TO BE FOR LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. Since I don't expect to have much interest for local pickups, pics and timestamp will be by request. Can travel about half an hour or so from the 40509 area. I would love to be able to ship these, however I have been unable to find boxes that are long and only a few inches tall. If you have any suggestions to find them so I can ship them, I'm all ears.
*PENDING* VFC SCAR-H AEG (TAN) - $400 - fantastic externals and shoots great. Includes 1 tan high cap and 2 (hard to find) black midcaps, 2 rail covers in tan (they are kind of loose), and a foregrip. The gun is catch and release from the subreddit, the midcaps are brand new and never used. They are also official VFC mags and are made of a nice metal.
Golden Eagle M16A4 AEG - $100 - basically a pretty standard entry level gun. Comes with the original battery, carry handle, and 4 black rail covers made by different brands (the length is all the same). I swapped out the pistol grip for something a bit nicer, but isn't top of the line.
G&G F2000 - $300 - honestly this might be my favorite gun externally, the polymer is top of the line. This is the tactical version of the gun, without the fancy scope. There is a bit of sticker residue from those lovely compliance stickers, but otherwise brand new. This is the 2nd gen version where it has an ETU in it.
Tokyo Mauri SPAS-12 w/ metal folding stock + extra shells - $320 - How about something you don't see everyday, a TM with the folding stock? The stock never had the hook at the end, but otherwise it's all complete. Great shotgun that is one of my favorites. It's practically brand new, however there is some cosmetic wear on the rear sight (from folding the stock over) and around the screw point on the stock. Includes 5 extra shells that are all functional and are different brands than TM, but have a fair bit of cosmetic wear on them.
Cybergun FAMAS - $100 - I think I had this for a couple of weeks now? Is yet another catch and release from this subreddit. It's a pretty nifty gun, and while not higher end like the SCAR, it seems like it would be fun to field. Includes a high cap, a midcap, and the bipod. Has a bit of scuffing on it, but nothing major.
CYMA AK47 CM.050A - $250 - Absolutely fantastic polymer on the outside, and it feels great to hold in my hands and shoulder. Internals seem pretty good too, it's a CYMA after all. Includes a foregrip and waffle high cap mag. The orange flash hider was glued on funny and it's kind of crooked, but I imagine that you'd want to take that ugly thing off anyways.

2023.05.31 21:27 Profecionallystupid Respect Percy Jackson Thread Part 2 [All] (Long)

Awhile back I made a post about how powerful Percy and how powerful he is. If you want you can view it here. This is a part two of sorts and will feature:
Corrections to the original post, a debunk, Curse of Achilles, and Eye of Nekhbet, Tl;dr end.
Correction:
I said that the explosion from the Mt. Saint Helens nearly killed him. However I reread this feat after it was pointed out that it was the exertion of power, not the explosion that nearly killed him. First the feat:
Afterward, I could never describe what happened. An explosion, a tidal wave, a whirlwind of power simultaneously catching me up and blasting me downward into the lava. Fire and water collided, superheated steam, and I shot upward from the heart of the volcano in a huge explosion, just one piece of flotsam thrown free by a million pounds of pressure. The last thing I remember before losing conscious was flying, flying so high Zeus would never have forgiven me, and then beginning to fall, smoke and fire and water streaming from me. I was a comet hurtling toward the earth. The Battle of the Labyrinth
Howerever, if you go forward a little bit you will read this.
That’s the last thing I wanted him to say. I hadn’t been in control of myself in that mountain. I’d released so much energy I’d almost vaporized myself, drained all the life out of me. The Battle of the Labyrinth
It drained him so much that he described it as draining him more than anything else he's ever done:
“Holy Poseidon,” I muttered. I looked as if I’d lost twenty pounds I couldn’t afford to lose. On the other hand, I really was weak. I couldn’t stay on my feet more than a few hours. Whatever I’d done in Mount St. Helens had drained me like nothing else I’d ever expected. The Battle of Labyrinth
However that wasn't an effect of the explosion, rather an effect from causing the explosion. So that increases his durability past what I originally said. Which I will recalculate after the next correction:
Percy reacting to the bullets. First, the quote:
They stepped from the trees on either side of the road. Instead of gray camouflage, they were now wearing blue New Mexico State Police uniforms...They drew their handguns The first skeleton fired. Time slowed down. I won't say I could see the bullet, but I could feel its path, the same way I felt water currents in the ocean. I deflected it off the edge of my blade and kept charging. Zoe and Bianca fired at their heads point-blank Six skeletons raised their guns. The other five came forward with batons. Fifty feet away. Forty feet... The other skeletons opened fire. I raised my lion coat for protection, but I didn't need it.
The Titan's Curse
Something I didn't think about was that the were equipped with New Mexico State Police equipment. Since they were using their gear, they were either using Smith & Wesson .357/.45 or the Glock 22/31. They both have have firing speed of 370-375 m/s.
The calculation for this feat was done here. u/FalseTrajectory calculated that it would require a reaction of 10.7 milliseconds to react to this speed. Which is a bit more inline with his lighting reaction feat. Which would require a reaction speed of 16 milliseconds.
Now for a corrected scaling. Here is what I originally said:
Scaling: So for durability, City level. While surviving the St. Helens explosion was impressive, it nearly killed him and Calypso had to nurse him back to health. Physical Strength is 4-5 tons. More than likely higher. Speed is also impressive and he is capable of running at well above peak human. His skills can't be scaled but are impressive. For his actual powers. He is definitely small mountain level. However, this one is debatable.
My First Post
For reaction, which I forgot to mention at all, I will say 10-16 milliseconds. Keep in mind that the average human can react at 250 milliseconds
And for the durability, it is getting buffed from city level to volcano level. I am going to move up to volcano level. The reason: he was still able to destroy Mt. Saint Helens. Mt. Saint Helens is a stratovolcano. They can get as tall as 10,000 feet (3048 meters). Mt. Saint Helens caps out at 9,677 feet (2,950 meters). The average volcano is 10000 ft or 3048 meters. So for that, I can say with confidence that he is volcano level.
And now, a debunk that is going to get me some hate: Percy can't blood bend. Yes, I know about him controlling the poison in Tartarus. And yes, he did that through controlling the water in the poison. However, he hasn't been shown to be able to control blood. And to be honest, we never will. I know it is a logical and easy jump to make, but for now that is only theoretical.
Next, Curse of Achilles Percy.
Since this is a amplified version of Percy, because of this, he scales above all of the previously mentioned feats. Although, an argument could be made that HoO feats shouldn't count, I say they should considering that was a Percy without the Curse, which amplifies his powers.
Some feats for this version of Percy:
It was the stupidest thing I've ever done. A hundred muskets fired at me, point blank. All of them missed. I crashed into their line and started hacking with Riptide. Bayonets jabbed. Swords slashed. Guns reloaded and fired. Nothing touched me. I whirled through the ranks, slashing redcoats to dust, one after the other. My mind went on autopilot: stab, dodge, cut, deflect, roll. Riptide was no longer a sword. It was an arc of pure destruction. I broke through the enemy line and leaped into the black chariot. Hades raised his staff. A bolt of dark energy shot toward me, but I deflected it off my blade and slammed into him. The god and I both tumbled out of the chariot. The next thing I knew, my knee was planted on Hades's chest. I was holding the collar of his royal robes in one fist, and the tip of my sword was poised right over his face. Silence. The army did nothing to defend their master. I glanced back and realized why. There was nothing left of them but weapons in the sand and piles of smoking, empty uniforms. I had destroyed them all. Hades swallowed. "Now, Jackson, listen here. . . ." He was immortal. There was no way I could kill him, but gods can be wounded. I knew that firsthand, and I figured a sword in the face wouldn't feel too good. "Just because I'm a nice person," I snarled, "I'll let you go. But first, tell me about that trap!" Hades melted into nothing, leaving me holding empty black robes. I cursed and got to my feet, breathing heavily. Now that the danger was over, I realized how tired I was. Every muscle in my body ached. I looked down at my clothes. They were slashed to pieces and full of bullet holes, but I was fine. Not a mark on me.
The Last Olympian
While he thinks that they were all missing, they were actually hitting him. He was just not registering it, and not only that, besides his clothes, he was unharmed.
He was temporarily able to fight Hyperion. Even causing the air to get charged with ozone:
I concentrated on the tidal wave and forced it to reverse. Just before impact, I jumped upward on a jet of water. "AHHHHH!" The waves smashed into Hyperion and he went under, his light extinguished. I landed on the lake's surface just as Hyperion struggled to his feet. His golden armor was dripping wet. His eyes no longer blazed, but they still looked murderous. "You will burn, Jackson!" he roared. Our swords met again and the air charged with ozone.
The Last Olympian
He was able to fight with Kronos and survive hits that shook the Williamsburg Bridge:
I met his first strike with Riptide. The impact shook the entire bridge, but I held my ground. Kronos's smile wavered. With a yell, I kicked his legs out from under him. His scythe skittered across the pavement. I stabbed downward, but he rolled aside and regained his footing. His scythe flew back to his hands.
The Last Olympian
He was even able to tank hits that break the cables of said bridge and was only mildly disorientated:
He struck the bridge with the butt of his scythe, and a wave of pure force blasted me backward. Cars went careening. Demigods—even Luke's own men—were blown off the edge of the bridge. Suspension cords whipped around, and I skidded halfway back to Manhattan. I got unsteadily to my feet.
The Last Olympian
Get sent back 300 yards (900 feet) by a blast from Hyperion with enough force to break every bone is his body if it weren't for the Curse of Achilles:
A wall of force slammed me through the air—just like the trick Kronos had pulled on the bridge. I sailed backward about three hundred yards and smashed into the ground. If it hadn't been for my new invulnerability, I would've broken every bone in my body.
The Last Olympian
The average 15 year old weighs 123.5 lb. (56.02 kg). It takes 4,000 N or 899.2358 ibs to break a human femur (it is the strongest bone in the human body and the impact would have broken all of his bones). That means he flew at a minimum of 3000 m/s. With this knowledge, we can calculate that the impact or 413172 pounds of force.
He was able to kill a Gorgon with a single slice of Riptide and later knock out another Gorgon with a single hit from a silver platter:
Gah!” Euryale stormed toward her sister. Percy took the opening. He grabbed Stheno’s platter, scattering poisoned Cheese ’n' Wieners, and slashed Riptide across Euryale's waist, cutting her in half. He raised the platter, and Stheno found herself facing her own greasy reflection. “Medusa!” she screamed. Her sister Euryale had crumbled to dust, but she was already starting to re-form, like a snowman un-melting. “Stheno, you fool!” she gurgled as her half-made face rose from the mound of dust. “That’s just your own reflection! Get him!” Percy slammed the metal tray on top of Stheno’s head, and she passed out cold.
The Son of Neptune
The same Gorgons was unscaved by a hit from a truck in the fast lane and getting dragged for a hundred yards:
“Gotcha!” shrieked Euryale. Percy turned as an arrow thudded into her forehead. Euryale tumbled into the fast lane. A truck slammed into her and carried her backward a hundred yards, but she just climbed over the cab, pulled the arrow out of her head, and launched back into the air…
The Son of Neptune
The average speed limit of a highway in California is 55m/h or 88.5139 k/h. The most common car to drive one the west coast of the US is the Toyota Tacoma. These can weigh anywhere from 3,915 to 4,550 lbs. Or 1775.8141 Kg to 2063.845. With all this knowledge we can calculate the force of impact would be around 263933 to 306742 lbf.
Eye of Nekhbet:
Being Nekhbet's Avatar gave him the access to thousands of years of knowledge:
Thousands of years of memories flooded my mind. I saw pyramids rising from the desert, the sun glittering on the Nile River. I heard priests chanting in the cool shadows of a temple, and smelled myrrh incense on the air. I soared over the cities of Ancient Egypt, circling the palace of the pharaoh. I was the vulture goddess Nekhbet—protector of the king, shield of the strong, scourge of the weak and dying.
Crown of Ptolemy
He is able to see on multiple layers of reality:
I saw layers of reality, like strata of glowing multicolored jelly, plunging down into infinity. On the surface, where the mortal and immortal worlds met, Setne was whipping the Duat into a storm—churning waves of color and frothy white plumes of smoke.
Crown of Ptolemy
He has enhanced strength:
I hefted the sword. Like so many I’d tried, it didn’t feel right in my hands. The hilt was too heavy for my wrist. The single-edged blade was curved awkwardly, like a giant hook knife. I tried a jab and nearly lost my balance. “This one doesn’t look like yours,” I told Carter. “Isn’t yours called a kopis?” “Mine is a khopesh,” Carter said. “The original Egyptian version. What you’re holding is a kopis…
Crown of Ptolemy (pre Eye of Nekhbet)
Setne, drop the crown.” I raised my kopis, which didn’t feel heavy with Nekhbet’s power flowing through me.
Crown of Ptolemy (post Eye of Nekhbet)
His reaction time is enhanced even further:
Thanks to Nekhbet, I realized what was going to happen a split second before it did, which saved our lives.
Crown of Ptolemy
He can tank an explosion capable of leveling a soccer field:
He strutted around the soccer field an black bell-bottomed slacks, a frilly white shirt, and a glittery purple trench coat-all of which clashed with his newly combined red and white crown.
Crown of Ptolemy
A ring of fire exploded outward from Setne.
A shell of purple light surrounded me, and the flames rolled harmlessly over translucent wings that that now extended on either side of me.
The Crown of Ptolemy
The fire blackened the entire field, instantly turning wet mud into steaming cracked clay.
The Crown of Ptolemy
The fire was so hot that it melted Celestial Bronze:
My new sword was a steaming line of bronze slag on the ground.
The Crown of Ptolemy
This Percy can fly:
Before Setne could finish casting his spell, I grabbed him in my spectral claws and carried him into the sky
The Last Olympian
Tl;dr: Percy has volcano level durability. He also volcano level powers. He can lift up 4-5 tons. He is faster than peak human. His skill is amazing.
Curse of Achilles Percy is even more powerful than base Percy so should be able to be moved up, however we never get the chance to see this (at its fullest) as Rick takes this away because it was to OP.
Eye of Nekhbet Percy is honestly, in my opinion, more powerful and has greater variety than CoA Percy. And of course, this is perhaps the most experienced Percy we see. However, Percy once again has this power taken away before it can be used to its fullest.
What are your thoughts? Has this post made you see Percy as weaker or stronger than you did before? What are your thoughts? Finally, who should I scale next?
Respect the Son Of The Sea, Percy Jackson!

2023.05.31 21:26 happytobehereatall Please tear down my ideas

I'll try to be brief, I know the "help me decide" posts can be annoying.
Goals: first project car to learn transferrable skills and get into autocross, get into a community (since no friends/family are into cars at all)
Dreams: manual, RWD, rear seating, turbo (would be open to installing a reliable kit on a trusted platform with relatively low boost to keep things from exploding)
Preferences: engine known to be easy to work on and reliable (Toyota, Honda, VW 1.8T?), no Ford/Hyundai/Audi/BMW/Subaru/Volvo (I'm not looking for a subreddit to join that will fill my homepage with pictures of cars parked in the Ikea parking lot)
Limitations: relatively limited space in garage on the sides, no welding skills (but neighbor is a welder and I'd be open to taking a class?), ideally spending $1200-3000 so there's plenty of room for maintenance and repairs before moving forward
Idea #1: 1991-1992 Camaro, since they're the only car I look back at loving since age 14 and would be willing to make more compromises here
Idea #1 concerns: parts availability, terrible idea to add turbo
Idea #2: manual Toyota or Honda, add turbo later (Toyota definitely preferable - LS400? IS300?)
Idea #2 concerns: still unsure which motors are safe to turbo, is there a list? (forums are exhausting to dig through), not excited about FWD but I'm sure it would be fine
Idea #3: VW 1.8T
Idea #3 concerns: Mixed reviews on how enjoyable or fulfilling the efforts to autocross these would be. I don't care to be competitive but I don't want to regret the platform.
Idea #4: VW TDI
Idea #4 concerns: My first diesel pickup was an absolute disaster (Ford 6.0, FML) so I'm unsure how good of an idea this would be for my goals, but I can't help being drawn to a little turbo diesel. I assume it's terrible for autocross with poor low end acceleration?
Idea #5: Nissan... anything?
Idea #5 concerns: So many choices, wide range of pricing, wouldn't even know where to start actually choosing a Nissan platform
I'll leave it at that. I appreciate anyone who's taken the time to read this. I had to take a break from browsing car listings.

2023.05.31 20:21 Maximum-Cover- How tall is a safe load?

I am moving from western Colorado to Ohio (~1500 miles) and have several 5.5' tall cabinets/toolboxes I need to move.
Assuming the weight isn't exceeding my truck's capacity (they'll be mostly empty) and the load is securely strapped down, is it safe to do this with the cabinets upright in the bed of the truck?
5.5' over the bed seems really tall.
Of course gas mileage would suck but I'm mainly concerned about safety/handling given wind hitting such a large surface sticking over the cab. But then again that's pretty much what small box trucks are... Right?
1500 Chevy Silverado with an extended bed, in case it matters.

Buying a used 1998 Ford Ranger XLT
Hello all,
I am considering buying this used 98 Ford Ranger with 61,000 miles. This will be a second car for joy / getting material for my home projects. Is the gap between the bed and cab normal ? The car is in outstanding shape for its age but I’ve never owned a pickup.
