And truly amazing it was!
The galaxy had never seen anything like it.
Humans from all around the galaxy had come together and were determined to astound the watching crowds with feats of acrobatics and athletics, so intense, it would be unbelievable to anyone who watched, human and nonhuman alike.
In those days ahead, the galaxy watched with its jaw wide, as one man broke the world, now universe record, for fastest human sprint at 29 miles per hour (47 km/h). Facts and figures put up on screens above the heads of the crowd gave info’s about the human body, to put into perspective just how powerful these athletes were, as olympic sprinters put their muscles under pressure equivalent to 1,000 pounds (453kg) of force in a single sprinting step.
They watched in awe and confusion as a tiny Olympic gymnast, no older than sixteen, cleared more than twice her body height in a double air rotation, defying the laws of physics and gravity as she hung suspended in the air, for what seemed like an impossible amount of time.
Eyes were wide and jaws had to be picked up off the floor, as a young human from earth cleared the pole-vaulting record, launching himself into the sky at 20 feet 3.⅕ inches (6,2m).
Feats of balance and strength, never before seen in the galaxy, were demonstrated as those same young adults demonstrated flips, cartwheels and feats of acrobatics on beams barely wider than the width of their feet. Gasps rose from the assembled alien crowd as a dismount brought one young woman off the beam at least three full rotations before landing.
There was no way that she could have known where she was going to hit.
But the announcers had been right, these humans had an almost godlike control of their bodies and some strange ability to know where they were in space at the optimal moment rotating on a single bar, or between two, flipping themselves around and around in ways that would have made others feel dizzy, only to land smiling a moment later their hands raised into the air in triumph.
And then came the marathon, the event that aliens had heard about, but never thought possible, preformed for the first time on a fiery death planet by a one legged, one eyed space captain in his boxer shorts in a little over four hours. The feat itself seemed unbelievable as a story, but when a young woman from a distant space colony preformed the marathon in a record breaking 2:22:53. Less than two and a half hours required her to be running at speeds of almost ten miles per hour (16km/h) for two full hours.
The stadium could not believe their ears when they had heard what she had done. Alien race officials watched her run through cameras, to make sure that the feat was really true.
But it was true, it was all true.
They could not believe their eyes.
Even in the water, humans could not be matched, pushing bodies that were not meant for swimming to speeds that could compete with one or two species running.
They put their bodies under strain so powerful it should have torn muscle and snapped bone, but when they came up smiling and grinning and waving to the crowd, all the stadium could do was to contain their excitement.
And when that wasn't enough, humans started adding obstacles to their events.
What was better than a hundred-meter sprint?
A hundred-meter sprint with obstacles you had to jump over!
At an average of 12.5 seconds, participants were reaching speeds of almost seventeen miles per hour (27km/h), as fast as car speeds within city limits.
If any of the humans had crashed, they would surely hurt themselves horribly in the process.
And the crowd absolutely loved it.
Nothing was better than watching the humans lift heavy objects, throw pointy sticks, or even leap to great vertical heights, sometimes throwing their legs higher than their own heads, which seemed impossible for aliens who had spent most of their time with average humans, if they had spent time with humans at all.
Regular humans couldn't do that!
So, what insane kind of humans were these!?
How did a human knew to release the weighted metal disk when they were spinning around so fast, and what made them decide to throw the weight of their entire body into a kinetic linkage of angular momentum that would send the metal disk nearly two hundred feet in the opposing direction?
It was the most viewed Olympics in the history of the event. Aliens watched to see the humans perform, and the humans watched to see the alien's reaction to the other humans preforming.
The Rundi home world grossed trillions of dollars, which expanded the universe's economy to soaring heights.
Tesraki capitalized on the idea, holding even more events for humans to compete in, even after the Olympics were over. From then on, alien planets would beg humans to come hold their games and competitions on their planet, didn't matter what it was… Soccer, football, baseball, you could be sure the rest of the galaxy was interested in seeing it.
The entire universe was giddy with the feats of strength and ability which had been demonstrated in those intervening days.
Humans, who only fell prey to praise once every four years, suddenly found themselves famous on distant moons, completely by accident. They all had alien companies begging them to endorse products they had never even heard of.
It was such a violent economic upturn, no one knew how to handle it.
There were those, of course, who realized something very different about humanity on those days…
They had met your average human, the lazy kind that likes to sit in comfy nests, watch TV and imbibe on excessive amounts of glucose. They had even met the average human who threw in some daily workout routine, so at least they could control their love handles.
Your average human scared them with what they could do, without even thinking.
But what did this mean?
It meant that it was very important to allow humans to nerf themselves, because if anyone ever convinced humanity as a hole what they could be if ninety percent of the population were at peak human performance...
Well…
It was simply better to keep the humans well-fed and sleepy.
Maybe then the universe would stand a chance…

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

-For starters, I REALLY hate the mechanic to detach an item from something else. If I want to remove a fan, for example, from a vehicle I’m made, wiggling my R-stick mildly initially moves the said vehicle from the percise position I intentionally placed it there for. A simple button press should do the job so I won’t have to readjust my vehicle’s position everytime.
-While the home building feature is a nice surprise, man is it clunky. But even worse is the annoying assistant assigned to help you. If I’m moving a housing section, at times he will stand exactly where I want to place it BUT HE DOESNT MOVE. PLEASE MOVE. Having to exit ultrahand and run around so he follows me and moves out of the way can be very tedious
-While paragliding, it can be frustrating when the surface I want to grab on to is directly behind me and it takes Link forever to turn around in the air. If I direct him backwards mid-paraglide to the surface, there is no way for him to quickly turn around and grab the surface, instead he just grazes against the surface with his back. It would be neat if Nintendo implemented a special animation of some sort to combat this awkward interaction with surfaces behind Link while paragliding, as in situations where there is no floor beneath you or you hardly have any stamina left, this can be a vital moment at times.
-I wish there was a quicker way of selling items. I’m aware you can sell items in stacks, but it’d be nice to sell multiple stacks for multiple items at once. Why? of course it’d be more convenient and quicker, but importantly? I HAVE TO LOWER MY VOLUME ALMOST EVERYTIME I’M SELLING MULTIPLE STACKS OF ITEMS TO VENDORS BECAUSE THEY MOAN BETWEEN EVERY TRANSACTION (I’M LOOKING AT YOU MUBS)

Hei Guys :3, i may need your help. I have problems winning games with voli that are longer then 30min.
I know, Voli is early game strong and i should close the game there, but as u can tell, thats not always possible. So may you can give me some advise. I dont rly how to play in late game, should i stay with team and peel, go splitpush oder something else? idk... I play him mostly tank like -> Ioanian -> IBG -> Dead Mans/FoN and my early game is mostly rly good. I invade much, get all objectives and give my adc like 3/0. I dont rly know how to carry after that or make my team carry.

Hello, I primarily play bass, but I also play some guitar and keyboard. I was looking at getting a multi FX pedal, specifically the Zoom B1X Four, but I would also like to use it for guitar and a bit of keyboard which I think would be cool. Should I just stick to the Bass pedal, or is the guitar variant (Zoom G1X Four) better for versatility? Or does it not matter?
Also any other multi FX for similar price would be much appreciated thanks :)

Hello everybody.
My ex broke up with me in late March. It was absolutely heartbreaking as I still was very much in love with him and willing to do anything. He immediately started looking for places to move to as we live together. He found a place that was being built and signed the contract, which stated he would be able to move in end of May / beginning of June. I agreed to this.
However now it’s June and they said they would contact him atleast 4 weeks before move in date and still haven’t, which means it’ll be July at its earliest. And even that is not certain as they said they are having issues and cannot provide an estimated move in date. We live in a studio currently which I’m keeping.
We’ve kept it nice and civil with eachother and treat eachother as regular friends/roommates. However this is absolutely killing me as I cannot move on properly this way. The added time to him moving out just feels so agonizing as I feel that whenever I am at home I am suffering in his presence trying to mask my sadness. I don’t even have a space to cry without him seeing or hearing me.
The cherry on top is that I also heard that he’s active on dating apps. That just ripped my heart to shreds. It’s of course not bizarre that your ex woukd do that but to know that and still see him everyday and be reminded of it when I still have feelings for him is terrible. I also care a lot for him and don’t want to hurt him, he’s a good person to me.
I just want to move on with my life and I can’t do this for much longer. We pay rent equally for the time he lives here. He doesnt have friends or family that live close by us or his work to crash at. I don’t know what to do. Is it fair to ask him to just move out regardless of his situation? How would I even go about asking that? Would it be too unfair?
TLDR: Should I ask my ex to move out despite his place not being ready yet? How do I even go about that and is it even fair?

Since childhood, we get instructed innumerable times not to put objects into our ears that are too small in size. But that doesn’t stop many of us from removing earwax with a preferably small or sharp object, a cotton swab — or sometimes even keys and pens.
While it may feel good momentarily, you may end up doing more harm than good.
Our ears are essentially self-cleaning organs. You can’t get the wax out by sticking a cotton swab in there. In fact, you may simply push the wax deeper into your ear canal, potentially damaging your inner ear tissues, which can ultimately cause you an eardrum burst or a perforated eardrum.

We (M44, F41) currently rent a flat in London. Renting in London is becoming even more unpleasant and unsustainable, and I genuinely spent three months of the year anxious, genuinely incredibly stressed, that we will have to move/the rent will go up beyond our budget, even though we've been in a reasonably priced flat for ten years with a landlady who likes us - a flat in our building is up for rent at a local estate agent for 50% more than we pay a month and that's what landlords use to determine rent increases, so I don't know how much longer that will be the case for us. I don't want to deal with bidding wars for rentals or the general shittiness of it anymore, I'm in my 40s and it's feeling less and less sustainable to be unable to plan more than a year in advance because we can't guarantee where we'll live or how much it will cost, if nothing else, and I'm not sure I can have that and still live in London. We could potentially buy in the next couple of years once a few things are in order but realistically that would mean shared ownership or at least leasehold, neither of which feel like much of an upgrade from renting, and banks being reluctant to lend generally might still be an issue.
We also both mostly work from home and it feels a bit like we pay a lot of money to do something we could do anywhere, and I've lived in London for 15 years now so would be happy to think about doing that and getting to know a new place. I have colleagues who have moved to Manchester, Liverpool, Brighton and Eastbourne during the pandemic and it appeals more and more - I'd have to be in the office at least once a week (or not come in if there are strikes) if we moved further away rather than the current two, partner's work is more flexible. Colleagues seem pretty happy with their choices despite the long Friday commute and the organisation involved in getting tickets for a reasonable price. We could afford to buy somewhere in theory in three of those places (not Brighton lol) which would be an easy walk to the station for that one day a week commute. Would it be mad to consider this?
(To save further questions: we don't drive; we would prefer to live in a city to get what we need from where we live; I don't want to live in a traditional commuter belt place because they are generally more car-centric and work out just as expensive overall, and partner has said that if we move out of London he'd rather we just moved entirely; we would be happy with a flat as we have no kids, and 'needs renovation' is fine if that means crappy wallpaper or planning to replace a bathroom rather than subsidence or total rewiring; both our industries are quite London-centric but there may be opportunities in other cities if we are patient; I do not give a fuck about 'the property ladder', ideally we would move somewhere and hopefully never have to think about it again, I am not thinking about this in terms of investment but security; our families are in the NW and Scotland)
TL:DR: if you took advantage of WFH to move out of London etc. entirely and just come in for your mandatory office days, would you recommend? Or is it completely insane?

I'm facing a culinary nightmare in my relationship, and I need to know if I'm being unreasonable. My girlfriend prides herself on being a 'home chef,' but her cooking skills are just... awful.
Every time she prepares a meal, it's like a disaster waiting to happen. She doesn't make dinner every day, but at least three times a week I am confronted with her... concoctions. She doesn't stick to recipes, she says all good chefs freestyle it. But her flavors are bland, the textures are off, and the presentation is a sad excuse for a meal. She thinks theyre great though, meanwhile I'm holding back a gag reflex.
I've brought her cooking skills up once or twice but she's completely convinced of herself. In an attempt to salvage my taste buds, I've resorted to secretly ordering takeout and discreetly disposing of her meals or just eating very little of it. She's happy I'm "enjoying" her food, I'm happy actually enjoying some *food*.
Last night, she caught me red-handed eating takeout in the kitchen, and it all blew up. She was furious, accusing me of being ungrateful and disrespectful towards her efforts. I explained why I can't stomach her food anymore but she's unwilling to listen or adapt.
Now, she wants me to apologize and promise to eat her cooking, no matter how terrible it is. But I don't think I can subject myself to such torture.
So, Reddit, AITA for refusing to eat my girlfriend's awful cooking and opting for takeout instead?

Recently turned over our old apartment and was asked to remove all the laminate, linoleum, and carpets on top of painting the walls white.
We moved into the apartment already with all the floorings (laminate, linoleum etc) in place, so we expected that we only had to paint the walls white. We confirmed it again to the landlord's customer service, and they said we should turn it over as we received it.

Now Hausverwaltung is saying that we remove it. The only thing we removed are the wallpapers that already started building molds on the side and we cleaned and painted them.
Is this legal? Are there any actions from our side that we can take.
Additional context: The landlord is one of the big private landlords in Berlin (east) and we've complained to them via Conny before for rent reduction (we won). We are now living outside Berlin.

I'm a bit vague on themes for OneSaUCE. Should I expect them to all work out of the box if I've installed the Core Pack and then selected game packages on top? At the moment, the only themes that seem to work are the Back to the Future one and what I perceive to be the default one (Luna).
I've looked at the themes pack for OneSaUCE over at archive.org, but just wanted to check that the instructions are still valid for the latest builds. I get the impression that a lot of the fixes that some of the archive pages sometimes mention for OneSaUCE get rolled into later builds anyway. The "One saUCE Themes Pack" page mentions an add-on pack fix, but that is full of references to old firmware, so if it's not right so I don't want to install on top and bork my nicely running system. That page also mentions that CoinOps and Renee sometimes don't work, which seems to jibe with what I'm seeing.
Also, can I be selective in what themes I grab? I've not got a load of space left on my USB stick...

So I sat him down last night and just went over a few things.

• I'm not gonna punish him for this, this time. He was honest and clearly wasn't into it
• He is responsible for the consequences of his actions no matter what he does in terms of making teenage decisions
• I cant control him necessarily but I would appreciate him being open and honest with me about what he wants to do so I can educate him on the matter before he does something he regrets
• I know he didn't smoke to rebel, he was curious which is why I still trust him
• Take pride in being the kid who doesn't smoke or drink if you don't. Adults respect you much more
• if he does these things, it can't be in the house as we have a baby in the home and I'm not risking anyone else taking in the fumes
• We watched some videos on stuff about smoking and also how lung cancer can ruin your life, so basically me kinda saying, I can't stop you but this is what your putting yourself up to risk for, FYI.
• He's my brother who I raise because our parents are druggies and alcoholics. So I said before doing drugs and drinking think of our parents and remember what they did to end up this way and the way it has impacted our lives

In conclusion. This was punishment enough lol.
My point was made, me and him still have a good relationship. He says he won't do it again but with teenagers, idk if that will stick by like 17, so I still just made my point very clear. Always come to me but if you don't, atleast remember everything you know.

Edit: I would like to add, he's kinda realised that his friends are heading down that path. We had a chat aswell about your surroundings and people being key in this type of situation. He agrees that they want to keep heading down the wrong side of town. Now I said you don't have to break friends with them but if you want to stay away from that stuff just tell them you wanna hang out doing whatever you like doing. He agrees with me. He does have other friend too, many round our neighbourhood who I'm sure he can become even closer too

Next season, do we stick with a traditional white baby Jesus surrounded by the Virgin Mary, Joseph and the Three Wise Men or is it time to face up to the fact that coming from the Middle East Jesus should have a more authentic appearance?
