I'm 24F and only just diagnosed with autism at the beginning of this year. Since then, I've started noticing things in my life that's got me essentially going, ".....huh."
For example:
I have a sister who's four years younger than me. When I was younger, and we still listened to the radio in the car instead of whatever the driver's Spotify playlist was playing, my sister would often sing along to the music from the backseat. Except she would sing the wrong lyrics every time and my little ears would pick up on her singing. It would annoy me, I would turn up the volume, but she would get louder.
Or so I thought. I didn't realize until I learned only a couple of years ago that I have auditory processing disorder and misophonia. My sister wasn't getting louder, my ears were just constantly focusing on her singing specifically because it was so different from what was on the radio, a song that most of the time I knew by heart.
Earbuds also did basically nothing for me. Granted, it was in the early 2000s, so they weren't exactly the best anyway, but I would once again constantly hear my sister singing through them while I was trying to listen to my MP3 player. I'd turn the volume, still hear her, turn it up more, and eventually, someone would tell me to turn it down because they could hear my music.
Early today (also the reason me wondering about this) my mom talking about how she started putting me in time-out as a kid when I was about 1, mainly from my aunt's insistence that I was old enough. The method was 1 minute in the corner for each age you are. 1 minute for a 1-year-old, 2 for a 2-year-old, etc. Well, according to my mom, that punishment didn't really bother me because I would just stare at the corner and not want to leave after the minute was up.
I walk on the sides of my feet, always have. ever since I was a kid. I don't know if that has to do with anything but I figured I'd mention it.
Food has always been a big one. I always hated a lot of food because it would taste off or sometimes make me weird. As a result, whenever I'm dragged to a restaurant, I always either got a cheeseburger with no onions, just a plain old grilled cheese, mac&cheese, or a pasta if one I like is available. It's gotten to the point where I know what I want before I go inside, and when someone I'm with asks if I know what I want, I just shrug and go, "the same thing I always get."

2023.06.01 10:02 ThatSansWitch My roommate stole my things and gave my dogs mange.

This situation is a few months old at this point, but I'm still quite upset about it and tonight it's really bugging me, and this seems like a good place to vent. Apologies if this is set up weird, I've never really used reddit before, and this is a very complicated situation.
I (f19) had a roommate (f27) for awhile, let's call her B. We met B through a mutual friend (he's a whole other story) and at the time she was homeless. I live with my mom, and we're both disabled, and she was helping out with some house work that we couldn't do. My mom offered to let her stay with us, rent free, if she helped out with the housework we couldn't do, and she agreed. She also was on our food stamps, so we bought her food and toiletries as part of our deal.
I really liked B. She didn't treat me like a kid, she was cool and hung out with me, we got along really well. She had this old pit bull that I adored, and we gave her one of the puppies from the litter we had just had. All in all, things were good for the first month or so.
Now, there were some things that happened. They all started at the same time, but I'm going to break them down separately.
The first one was with food. She was, of course, free to eat whatever she wanted, we also bought her food specific for her, that's all fine and good. But I had some food that we bought specifically for me, that was off limits. That was the only rule with food, that those items were mine and she wasn't supposed to eat them. This was because I was in recovery from an eating disorder, along with having stomach problems and the inability to stand and cook, so I had some easy to prepare, calorie dense foods that I liked, like yogurt, granola bars, little mac and cheese cups, things like that, along with a meal replacement drink. It was imperative that I had these foods, so I didn't slip back into a disordered mindset and relapse.
Well, I started noticing that the safe foods were going missing. Nothing too drastic, a Mac and cheese here, a yogurt there, the last belvita pack. We had other people in the house too, so I figured it was just a slip up or I had eaten it and forgotten. One morning I went into the kitchen and noticed that my last yogurt was out on the counter, opened with one bite taken out of, and full of ants. B was in the kitchen, so I asked her if she knew anything about it. She said she was going to eat it the night before and forgot about it. I told her it was okay, I explained to her again that some foods were off limits, and that if she really wanted them to please ask me first. But it kept happening, she would take the safe foods whenever she wanted, and it got to the point where she was eating more of them than I was.
Okay, food is just food. Is it frustrating? Yeah, but it's not the end of the world. We started buying extra so she would also have some and I would still be able to eat, but I think that just encouraged her because it got worse and it did end in me relapsing.
Then there was the soap problem. I was running out of products way faster than I should have been, my body wash and hair care, an expensive sugar scrub that I had saved up for, skin care, make up too. Hell, even my deodorant and razors were going missing. Eventually I asked B about it, and she confirmed that she was using my stuff. I asked her to please stop, and she said "I can't help it, I just like smelling like you". After that I stopped keeping my stuff in the bathroom, and instead kept it all in a bag hidden away. This was also a problem with period products, I would never have any by the time my period started and I had to hide those too. At this time, as I said, we were buying her hygiene products so I don't really know why she was using mine.
Then there was the clothes. We were the same size and I enjoy sharing clothes with people, fashion and my personal style is something I'm really passionate about and I'm more than happy to lend clothes to friends, B included. Now, naturally, when someone borrows something, there's an expectation that you will get your thing back, right? I thought so. But, after awhile, B started doing this thing. She would borrow something, a few days later I would ask for it back, she would say she never took it or already gave it back, and then, like a week later, she'd be wearing it but the clothing was modified. Like, she took a pair of tights and put holes in them, took a shirt and turned it into a crop top, turned a pair of jeans into shorts, and completely cut up one of my favorite dresses. Eventually I asked her to stop borrowing my clothes, so instead she just stopped asking and stole them. In the items she stole, was a hand made coat that my grandmothers made. It was an entirely unique piece that they made the pattern for, custom fit for me in my favorite color, a beautiful burgundy, every time I wore it people would comment on it and it was the one piece that everyone wanted. I loved that coat and it was quite sentimental too, as one of my grandmothers who made it is now dead. And B stole it.
There were other, smaller things too, like certain events that happened. On my nineteenth birthday she made advances towards me (I have a girlfriend that she knew about and had met), she asked me strange things about the sexual abuse I had gone through by my father, just weird things like that. I never said anything, because I didn't want to sound rude, or misconstrued the situation, and I ended up just ignoring it when it happened.
Eventually, we asked her to leave. She had stopped holding up her end of our deal, she was stealing from our other roommates as well, and she had gotten pulled over and arrested in our car, after having been caught with meth, and ended up getting mom in trouble as well. We knew she had somewhere safe to go, she had a boyfriend at the time who has a house and discussions before hand assured us that he would let her stay.
She left her space a total mess, and left the puppy we had given her upstairs without informing us. We had let her stay for a couple nights after all of this, when she had broken up with her boyfriend and no longer had a place to stay, and it had gotten cold. In return, while we were gone, she broke in and stole quite a few things, thankfully we didn't have anything of value that couldn't be replaced.
Now, I mentioned in the title she gave my dogs mange. After she left the puppy upstairs, we had to take him in. He was aggressive to both people and the other dogs, attacking them and us to the point of injury. On top of that, he was covered in fleas and ended up causing an infestation (we had three dogs under the age of six months, meaning we couldn't treat them for fleas with medication or medicated soap). We ended up finding someone who could take him, and we have been trying to get rid of the fleas ever since. Well, within the last two weeks, we have noticed our dogs have been losing hair and have skin issues. At first we thought it was from the fleas, but as it got worse, we took them to the vet.
It was mange. The only dogs they could have gotten it from was B's dogs. She had mentioned the pit bull had it in the past.
It's been an expensive and exhausting fight, I have two dogs and a cat and my mom has three dogs, they all have it and it's a pain to treat.
I think I'm just tired now. The anger I had originally felt is now just exhaustion. B was, like I said, a friend. It was a betrayal that I should have seen coming, but rose tinted glasses and all that, and it was a betrayal that still hurt. I don't know what I could have done to change it. I've tried reaching out to her, apologizing, and trying to see if maybe I could get some of my things back. She's ghosted me or outright blocked me, and at this point I just give up.
So that was my roommate from hell. I guess, B, if you're reading this, I'm sorry things ended the way they did. You can keep everything you took, but I would really appreciate having my coat back, I would even pay you for it at this point.

Chef Gordon Ramsay said after last nights painful service that he hoped all the Chefs had slept better than he had as it was not a fun night for him. He said it was time for an early start today and said that both teams would be cooking breakfast for Paramedics and EMTs and said the first team to complete service would win the challenge. Brad said that the blue team had to win something finally after a few losses and Tara said she hadn’t slept much so needed to help the red team win this challenge. The blue team started slow when Giovanni dragged on pancakes and needed to get help from Josh to bring them up to the high orders and Josh said he was going to take over as leader of the blue team this morning. The men started having trouble with the omelettes as Brad ended up wasting a couple due to them sticking to the pan and Josh managed to serve overcooked poached eggs and then broken poached eggs to end the service slowly. The red team also had trouble with omelettes due to Kashia and Sabrina working together and getting into an argument with Sabrina saying Kashia is still bitter about last night so causing problems. Santos served perfect steaks for the steak and eggs but Tara burnt 2 fried eggs which saw Santos overcook a steak due to the refired eggs. The red team did finish 2 tickets ahead of the blue team thanks to Josh’s problems on poached eggs and they won their 3rd challenge in a row! Kashia said she was happy to win another challenge but did not want to be on a station with Sabrina again and Van said all the blue team did right now was lose, lose and lose, and he was sick of it.
The red team went off to party and Santos said they had to keep up the momentum for dinner service and told Kashia and Sabrina to squash any issues before service but Sabrina said if Kashia gets over last night then there’s no issue which annoyed Kashia. Giovanni tried leading the blue team through prep as he was sick of losing and said the red team aren’t even that good so they should be able to beat them tonight. Van and Ed got the blue team off to a flying start on appetisers as Van’s first pastas were perfect and Van said FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION tonight and Ed was vocal for the appetisers as well. Zach said it was time for Chef Zach to emerge tonight and his scallops and lobster flew out to complete appetisers in great time for the blue team. The only issue on appetisers was Antonio at table side who after being told to wipe his sweaty head by Chef Ramsay at the start of service was being noticed by customers sweating profusely by customers and Marino told Antonio to take a minute to wipe his brow and Antonio said this was extremely embarrassing to be called out for sweating this much. Giovanni on garnish said the blue team had to keep the momentum up for entrees and was extremely vocal early on and Zach continued to have a strong service on the fish station with perfect salmons and monkfish accepted by Ramsay. Brad and Josh on the meat station did start off well with steaks and lamb flying out but Brad brought up dry and overcooked pork with Ramsay saying the team had to get in sync with each other and then Brad brought up raw pork to completely kill the table. Giovanni tried getting the blue team back together but after an initial bounce back, Josh made a complete mess of cutting his wellingtons and Ramsay furiously sent back Josh’s hacked wellingtons, asking what the hell was going on with the blue team now. Zach and Giovanni continued to work well together but Brad continued to have problems as he dragged on orders of chicken after calling for 3 extra minutes and by the time Josh brought his steaks up they were cold and Ramsay said he couldn’t believe they were dragging on service this late. The blue team finally finished service but Ed said he couldn’t believe how much they struggled on entrees after such a good start.
Santos said he was excited to work on the hot appetisers station to get the red team off to a perfect start and his first risottos were praised by Ramsay while Tara supported well with salads. Dannie and Elizabeth were on the fish station and Dannie said she was leading the station but bizarrely brought up 8 scallops instead of 9 but Elizabeth backed her up by cooking the extra scallop. Dannie then dragged on a later order of scallops and got into an argument with Sabrina who was pressuring her to bring them up with Dannie screaming that she wasn’t going to serve raw scallops and that they would wait and be happy with it. Appetisers finished and Kanae on the garnish station had a strong start with coordinating orders and Ramsay said this was the best leadership he’d seen from Kanae and to keep it up and the 1st lamb and pork from Kashia and Sabrina flew out as Kashia said she had to forget about working with Sabrina and just have another strong performance on the meat station. Sabrina though got behind on chicken and then made a complete mess of cutting the chicken to the point Ramsay it looked like it had been chewed by a dog and gave Sabrina a tutorial in cutting the chicken which Sabrina said was embarrassing as she knew how to cut chicken. Dannie continued to lead the fish station but then managed to burn her next cod and Elizabeth tried taking over the fish station only to be told to go away by Dannie and Kanae felt that Dannie’s attitude was gettingng worse. The teams had 3 tickets left and the red team looked in trouble when Sabrina started dragging on orders of strip but thanks to Brad and Josh’s issues, Sabrina, Keisha and Kanae finished the tickets to see the red team finish 1 ticket ahead and win service!
The blue team were devastated having had their best service yet and still lost yet again and Giovanni was quick to say that the issues were with the meat station and said Brad and Josh had to go up. Brad said he understood but said they had to consider if they’d rather work with him or Antonio again and Josh said that Antonio dragging at tableside was a worst service than dragging on some meat orders but Antonio angrily said he only dragged on orders due to sweating too much. Van though said he was sick of Josh’s excuses and Ed agreed that Josh and Brad were going up. Both Brad and Josh pled their cases to stay but Ramsay eliminated BRAD for not only costing the blue team dinner service tonight but also costing them the breakfast service. Ramsay though said he wasn’t done and told Josh to take his jacket off as well and said Josh was joining the red team to get his confidence back. Ramsay said he still wasn’t done and said he was going to test the Chefs by changing up the teams, sending Sabrina, Tara and Kanae over to the blue team and sending Van over to the red team with Van annoyed he had to still be on the same team as Josh. Giovanni said he wished Josh had gone but was happy to see him off his team and Tara said joining the blue team was a chance for her to find her place away from the drama of the red team.
On the next service, Ramsay will have had enough of the incompetence and eliminate 2 Chefs and it could be anyone.

2023.06.01 08:23 Traditional_Hunt2851 Day 8 Update!!

Okay I think I finally made it over the hump… fingers crossed… I stopped taking my prescription pain meds two days ago (doctor’s order after the Oxy made me beyond nauseous and I threw up multiple times) and have just been taking Tylenol every 6 hours. I was able to eat actual food today (okay Mac and cheese, and some deli meat and cheese) but I am genuinely starting to feel so much better! My throat hurts of course but nothing worse than what my strep throat symptoms were like so 100% manageable. Except my ears still hurt, regardless of the ice I use. And yawning SUCKS. But I’m hoping I made it through the worst?
