Murkintok Municipal Airport

2023.06.04 05:05 A_Stony_Shore Murkintok Municipal Airport

I was going to be late. I was on the verge of panic, uncertain of where I’d come from or why I was late, but I was going to be late.
Today was supposed to be different. I was sure of it. The start of something new. My only opportunity to move out of my little dead-end corner of Appalachia rested on me arriving for the night shift on time.
I sped over the rolling road in a panic. Dense old growth rushed past in a blur periodically broken by small plots of pasture, apple orchards and fields that a few months earlier were brimming with corn. Shadows danced out there in the dim moonlight and the closer I got to the airfield the more separated from the small outlying town I felt.
My steering wheel was cold and it vibrated wildly in rhythm with my heart. I tapped it impatiently.
The rusted hulk nearly left the road each time I crested a hillock. My suspension groaned under the salt spurred corrosion and strain.
I can get a new car if this all works out.
I nearly missed my turn. Fishtailing, I plodded off the main road onto an aptly named “Airport Drive”.
I came to a halt at the designated stall and turned the car off.
A minute to spare.
I looked out into the darkness beyond the parking area and a tingle ran down my spine. The shadows that were once dancing as I passed were still now and the air oppressive. My hands were tingled with cold yet brimmed with sweat. Before opening the door, I took a few deep breaths, flattened my hair, and made sure my uniform was sharp. Looking into my image in the rearview mirror I cleared my throat.
“Alright buddy. You’ve been drifting from service job to service job in this dying county for half a decade. Somethings got to change. *You’ve* got to change. You’ve got a daughter now, you can’t be out there chasing bar weasels and getting drunk every other night. It’s time to up your game. You aren’t the little boy who had to stand in the corner with his nose to the wall every time you messed up anymore. Now your choices matter for her life too. The pay and experience here are going to help springboard you off into something bigger and brighter. You can do this.”
My car door shrieked open causing the chirping and croaks in the forest around the airfield to briefly fall silent. The crunch of gravel followed me across the unpaved, unmarked parking spaces poorly illuminated by one lonely floodlight. I made my way to the entrance of the terminal and pulled open the door to the chime of an old brass bell.
“Oh, hey buddy.” He glanced at the clock. “You’re early.” Stepping into the room I saw Gus casually looking up from his crossword, bifocals resting on his fat, bright red nose.
“Yessir. I figured maybe if things weren’t too busy we could get started early. I’ve heard night shift can be a lot to take in.”
His brows furrowed and his mouth hung half open.
“Well….alright, I guess. But we’ll be easing you in. Just the basics for the first week.” He held up a finger, “Will and I are gonna rotate each night, until we know you’ve got the hang of it, then we’ll start giving you more responsibilities – if you’re up to it.”
We spent several hours on the night shift responsibilities for the airfield. Many of the duties weren’t too complicated. When we went to the control room at the base of the single tower overlooking the tarmac we flipped several very clearly marked switches turning the runway lights on and off. Then we walked over the several generators tucked away behind baggage claim to check their fuel and oil levels.
“Checking these emergency generators things each night seems a bit overkill, no?” I asked.
Gus smiled. “These aren’t for emergencies. This is our power. Yea, this past winter much to our surprise we found that some of the power poles came down. Some heavy rainfall right before the first snow turned the ground to soup and the just sort of…fell over.”
“They really shouldn’t do that.”
Gus shrugged. “Yea well, corners get cut all over the place. Damn things still aren’t back up, so here we are.”
As we walked back over to the portables for baggage claim and arrivals/departures. Another tingle ran down my spine. Instinctively I looked around and caught sight of something out in the dark. It was the feeling of being watched. I tried to focus my eyes on the darkness. I saw some gently pulsating shadows near the trees but nothing more.
The chirping and croaks were nowhere to be heard and I shivered.
“Come on kid, I ain’t got all night.”
I came to and trotted over to where Gus had stopped. “Sorry, I thought I saw…something.”
We continued onward, restocking the restrooms, went over baggage tagging and safe lifting procedures and the other mundane parts of preparing for the night’s departures and arrivals.
Finally, we wrapped up my first training session with perimeter checks.
Gus’ labored breathing alternated with his footfalls on the blacktop as we walked down the small runway.
“Every 3 hours you are going to be making this walk.” He gestured around. “You start over at the ATC tower and head out to the tree line, then follow that parallel to the tarmac until you pass the last of the landing lights and keep going until you hit the transmission shack. Don’t get distracted and go off following the transmission lines. Had a guy do that a year or two ago and it took us a week only to find his ass mumbling by the side of the road talking about the linemen – boy wasn’t right after that.”
He paused thoughtfully for a moment.
“Anywho, after the transmission shack you hook right following the shore of the river until you hit Eddie’s orchard then head back. You’ll pass his cornfield and follow that until you see the two terminal portables, then you check the parking lot and come back to the office to enter it all in the logbook. Just need to make sure there ain’t nothing out there that shouldn’t be.”
We continued walking in silence for a few minutes. “So what do I do if I find something? Are we looking for the Wilson boys or something? I thought they stopped causing trouble after you…”
“Well, you need to enter it in the logbook for one.”
“Bears? What do I do if it’s bears?”
He stopped. “Bears? What the hell are you rambling about? We don’t get bears this time of year. Oh, and be sure to bring your bear spray.”
“Even though there aren’t bears?”
“It’s under the counter next to the logbook.” He paused again. “If you see any wildlife, just take the truck out there and honk at it to get it away from the runway. Be sure to use your high beams, too. Very important. You see any people you get back to the office and call the Sheriff – don’t need to be a hero. You hear anything weird out there in the dark you leave it be, if it’s off property it’s not our problem.”
“Any questions?” he asked as we got back to the office.
A few.
“No, I’m good.”
“Great, Will’s in the control tower if anything comes up. No flights scheduled for tonight so it should be awfully quiet. Here’s the keys to the castle. Adios.”
He placed a massive key ring into my hand that had more keys than there were doors on the property and took off.
I sat down behind the counter, looked at the broken clock and sighed.
I was able to knock out the task list before midnight and had 6 more hours to kill before the end of my shift. There was no cell service, because of course not. I tried reading an old Town and Country magazine I found stashed under the desk and found most of the pages had been covered in circles and doodles by someone who must have been just as bored as I was on some unknown shift prior.
I decided to sweep up and clean the counters to keep myself busy and after I was done it was only 12:15.
I groaned.
The silence was oppressive. Outside the window was an empty, dark expanse with a slowly strobing series of red lights marking the flight line. I felt safer indoors but even then as I stared into the dark something felt off. If I turned my gaze from the windows I could see something out of the corner of my eyes. Branches swaying in the breeze.
There was no wind here.
12:34.
I pulled the logbook out from its shelf and placed it on the counter entering my start time, grabbed my flashlight and headed out into the frigid night.
The occasional whistling of the wind punctuated my footfalls. I passed red light posts every few yards on a never-ending runway. I kept walking for what felt like half an hour, losing count of the lights I’d passed. I turned back out of curiosity and still saw the slowly receding light of the air traffic control tower confirming that yes, all was well. After the runway ended I continued into the dark until coming to the boarded up transmission shack and the power lines that ran off into the forest.
I came the edge of the marsh and began following it. Minutes passed. I turned to get my bearings on the tower and found it’s lonely beacon, but I also noticed a void in the dark – not a blackness per-se, black is a color. No, it was a complete lack of color, a hole in existence out past the power lines. It was getting larger.
I picked up my pace.
I got to the orchard and looked back finding that the lights were out. All of them were out. And that thing in the forest was growing near.
I stood there and watched it for several minutes waiting for it to move. It didn’t.
I turned back now walking as fast as I could. After a dozen yards I stopped and turned around.
It was closer, I was sure of it. Much closer.
I turned and began to jog forgetting everything Gus had told me. It was gaining on me.
Now I was in a full-blown run down the flight line, glancing back every few moments, still unable to see it but sure it was there. The thing that had been watching me since I got here. The thing that drove a cold shock down my spine. This was it.
My legs pumped like pistons and the sting of cold air shot through my chest with each strained, gasping breath.
I passed the recently harvested cornfield, in which stood two perfectly still Deer judging me for my frantic escape.
It was gaining on me.
Finally I came to the portables. I slammed into the nearest door but it stood firm. I slammed my shoulder into it three more times and it didn’t budge. I remembered my key chain.
I pulled it out and started flipping through the keys. *too many keys*.
First key. No.
Second key. No.
Third key. No.
The fourth key worked, the tumbler clicked and I was in. Slamming the door back in place, I frantically locked it.
My hands were shaking and even though I was panting, I went to the window. The void cast long shadows across the field as it stood transfixed not on me, but on the deer.
“Shhhh” a man’s voice whispered from behind me.
“Oh SWEET JESUS FU-“ I screamed as a hand clamped down on my mouth.
“SHHH.” Sharper this time, commanding. “It’s me.” Will whispered, releasing his hand from my mouth.
“What..” I replied quietly as I turned to see him using his phone to maneuver the drone. “What’s going on? You scared the shit out of me. Nice to meet you by the way I’m..”
He smiled, “You gotta be more careful buddy, Didn’t Gus tell you not to go out into the woods?” Now that I could hear him clearly, his odd vowel pronunciation took me off guard. He’d fit right in, in Venice beach. Surfers. He sounded exactly like how I imagined California Surfers sounded. Very out of place for this part of the country. I shook the thought from my mind.
“I didn’t, I..”
He shushed me and pointed to the deer.
“Just…watch.”
I’d never seen deer stay still so long.
I strained my eyes to see. The shadows, tilled earth and wilted corn husks broke up the terrain making it hard to see what was hidden in plain sight. I’d see movement then have to dismiss it as wind kicking up gentle curtains of soil or the shifting of a shadow from the small movements in the night.
Slowly a thin sharp shadow moved, followed by another, then another. They moved in concert from that enormous void that had followed me.
The deer stood transfixed before it all happened at once.
A mixture of humanlike screams erupted as each of their bodies were slammed into the ground. Viscera painted the wind. In another moment the light went out and I heard Will sigh.
The wind whistled and died, but we could still hear it out there breathing heavily as it gorged itself. From where I stood I could only see a throbbing silhouette breaking the horizon as it went to work. A crisp snap rang out as it pulled limb by limb from the carcass. The throbbing of the shape slowed as a new sound arose. A contented hum made its presence felt through the rattling of the windows and doors and threatened to overwhelm my own beating heart.
The sound rose as the shape slowly moved closer.
“What do we..”
Will shushed me.
I jumped and stifled a scream as a wet, boneless appendage slammed against the window curiously. The doorknob rattled though this time not from the creatures’ purr but from it’s clumsy efforts to open the door and join us inside.
The ceiling creaked above us under a massive weight.
It groaned as if remembering something and suddenly began moving away back towards the trees. There were no footfalls, just the gently receding sound of a blissful purr.
When it finally entered the world beyond its movements melted into those of the swaying branches becoming indiscernible. The more I tried to focus on it the harder it was to recall its form or the impossibility I’d just witnessed.
Will smiled and patted me on the shoulder sadly, “Welcome to Murkintok.”

2023.06.04 05:00 awstechguy Friend keeps canceling on me

Hello folks, hope your enjoying your weekend this summer :) please read and share your thoughts 💭
I made a friend who’s from college where we used to barely chat but after few years we found a job in same city and stay in different places in the city. I had helped him in countless times in picking him from the airport and showing him around the city and also taking him out on weekends to hangout and chill around the new city. We also do talk about our highs & lows while we smoke, go out to hikes, chill around lakes, watch movies together and banter around. After a while he asked me to join for a long drive which I couldn’t join as I was sick to come out and he went around which is cool. Lately I asked him to join a road trip and he said ok and made the plan and canceled on the last min to join, which made me feel upset and told him that to inform me if there’s any problems to join but he didn’t while planning. Later after a week, I had a planned trip and he knew about the trip and told me he’ll drop me at the airport which I said thanks for his kind gesture but on the day to pick me he just bailed again. I usually don’t expect a return in any situation but being a good friend to him as we been through around same city more than a year he keeps canceling in last minute.
Can anyone advice on this situations please?

2023.06.04 04:53 Plutuwastaken i need help fixing a roblox ragdoll script

Keep this in mind, I have ZERO clue how coding works. I don't plan on really putting too much effort into learning code, because it wont be a main focus in my life. I'm currently attemping to make a ragdoll game similar to that of "Ragdoll Shotgun", since the original creators of that game seemed to have abandoned it. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to make a constant ragdolled body work. The closest I've gotten is a ragdolled body, but the torso holds up the flailing limbs. The plan is to have a move-able, ragdoll body with all limbs visible. It's in r6 exclusively if that helps. Thanks!
the code (it wont let me put an image of the code with the video)
local humanoid = script.Parent:WaitForChild('Humanoid')
humanoid.BreakJointsOnDeath = false
for index,joint in pairs(script.Parent:GetDescendants()) do
if joint:IsA('Motor6D') then local socket = Instance.new ('BallSocketConstraint') local a1 = Instance.new('Attachment') local a2 = Instance.new('Attachment') a1.Parent = joint.Part0 a2.Parent = joint.Part1 socket.Parent = joint.parent socket.Attachment0 = a1 socket.Attachment1 = a2 a1.CFrame = joint.C0 a2.CFrame = joint.C1 socket.LimitsEnabled = true socket.TwistLimitsEnabled = true joint:Destroy() end

This product has been third-party tested and verified for 99% purity, ensuring that you're getting a top-quality product.

What is Asleep (DSIP & Melatonin) Spray?

The Asleep Spray is a unique blend of DSIP (Delta Sleep Inducing Peptide) and Melatonin. Each spray delivers 50mcg of DSIP and 1mg of Melatonin, totaling 1.05mg per spray. This product is designed to aid those struggling with sleep disorders such as insomnia and narcolepsy.

The Power of DSIP

DSIP, or Delta Sleep Inducing Peptide, is a molecule that has shown significant potential in clinical studies to aid those with insomnia. It may potentially help increase the overall quality and effectiveness of rest and sleep. Moreover, it has been discovered to potentially help those with narcolepsy, a persistent neurological disease that causes extreme daytime fatigue. It's hypothesized that DSIP might modify sleep and wake cycles.

The Role of Melatonin

Melatonin is a neurohormone that the pineal gland naturally releases and is well-recognized for controlling sleep. The production of melatonin during sleep supports the circadian rhythm and normalization of sleep patterns. Current research has revealed other potential impacts, such as how exogenously delivered oral melatonin can affect mice’s spatial working memory and cerebral excitation.

A Word of Caution

It's important to note that the products sold by PureRawz, including the Asleep Spray, are intended for laboratory and research use only. All clinical research must be conducted with oversight from the appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB), and all preclinical research must be conducted with oversight from the appropriate Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) following the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).

2023.06.04 04:45 Python427 Kids Picture Book Series About a Gator and a Crane(?) Swapped At Birth

Growing up in the 90s I remember a children's picture book series about an alligator and a crane (I think) that were swapped at birth during a storm. The stories take place in a swamp, with other animal neighbors and friends, and--if I remember correctly--the kids were raised by the swapped parents. I remember the gator getting older and wearing a red tropical shirt, and I think the crane wore a blue one?
The books also each had a cool little map of the swamp village/neighborhood on the inside cover that listed all the locations and names of residents. I remember the bird (crane) egg being bright blue. I also may be getting some other books mixed up on this next detail, but I thought that each book was a different color, with that particular issue's summarization image on the front. I think I remember them being pastel pinks, yellows, etc.
This has just been driving me insane. I can't find it anywhere, but the more I think about it, the more details start to unfog themselves little by little. The major problem is my parents and siblings don't have any idea on what I'm talking about. Though, to be fair, I have an easier time remembering past details than they do, while being horrid with things that recently happened.
Any information or clue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

2023.06.04 04:41 Researcher_1999 Mystery Solved: The Real Reason the Cafeteria Bombs Failed (and Why a Diversionary Bomb Ignited When Moved/Kicked)

Mystery Solved: The Real Reason the Cafeteria Bombs Failed (and Why a Diversionary Bomb Ignited When Moved/Kicked)
The idea that those cafeteria bombs had any power whatsoever is giving them way too much credit.
Sure, the tanks were heavy, but that's where the impressive nature of these bombs begins and ends.
Disclaimer: This post in no way provides instructions on how to make a bomb or a timing device. This is an analysis of why their timers failed, which is basic electronic circuitry. While this post explains why the timers failed, it does not explain what should have been done to make them work. Their entire design was flawed. There was nothing they could have done differently other than make a completely different circuit, which will not be discussed in this post for obvious reasons.
Why did the cafeteria bomb timers fail?
If you know basic circuitry, it's obvious by looking at this photo:
Time clock
Most people have been told that in order to create a timing device out of a manual alarm clock, the hands need to be metal. Rumor has it, this particular model had plastic hands, which prevented the circuit from being completed. Plastic won't complete a circuit, it's true, but there are two reasons this doesn't matter: (1) there's a simple foolproof way to use a plastic hand anyway, but (2), their timers weren't built to complete the circuit with the clock hands.
How do we know this? There's no screw in the faceplate. Clock hands need to run into a metal post on the faceplate to complete a circuit. This is not how they created their circuitry. Their circuitry was 100% in the bells. Except they didn't actually create a circuit. They were given bad, bad instructions from someone.
Here's another clock and you can see there is no screw here, either.
Time clock

We don't have any evidence that they tested their timers
If they tested their timing circuitry with any success, they probably did it out in the open (not in a closed bag) because getting a fuse to light with wires is not as easy as lighting it with a lighter or even a match. The electricity needed to light the fuse before the matches would even come into play. They used matches all right, but if they couldn't get that fuse to ignite with the electricity at first, those matches were never going to ignite to kickstart their "bombs."
Their timers did ignite when the alarms went off
These timing devices did ignite, but had no real power because (1) they built a weak, useless "circuit" that rapidly connected and disconnected the circuit continuously, and (2) their ignition source (and power source - 9v battery) was weak.
Below is a video demonstrating the power of their "timing devices" with a comparable ignition source to what they used (Keep in mind, in this video, the circuit is created properly, the ignition source is slightly more ignitable than what they created, this uses a much more powerful battery, and it still has no power):
https://youtu.be/lG8WWxGqojY
This is the amount of power their timers had to ignite those cafeteria bombs. Actually less, because of their ignition source, weak and intermittent circuitry, and weak battery.
Their circuitry did not have the power to ignite anything. It was dead from the start. Their setup was what kids do to ignite fireworks remotely when bored. My guess is they tested timers on bottle rockets and other things. Then, they tried to jump from igniting small fireworks with timers to massive bombs.
Was a diversionary bomb really kicked?
I don't buy the story that a diversionary bomb was kicked or moved and then it ignited. I think that's a cover story for why the bag only started a fire and didn't cause any kind of explosion. They already told the story that 2 separate cafe bombs failed because of a single loose wire (impossible and false). With the exception of their car bombs that were intentionally disrupted, it appears that all of their timers ignited at least to a smolder. If they told people this, they would have to account for why they only smoldered and two created a fire (one when shot in the cafeteria and one of the diversionary bombs). Based on the circuitry, they'd have to give away the fact that those cafe bombs were never going to explode, which would blow a hole in their story of why they never entered the school (pun intended).
How we know the clocks likely ignited properly, but were weak
Notice that you can't see the alarm hand in in the second photo. When this type of alarm goes off, the minute hand and small alarm hand overlap and the minute hand conceals the alarm hand underneath. The fact that the alarm hand isn't visible indicates this timing device ignited because of the circuitry. So, their circuitry "functioned," but it was weak.
The fact that this device ignited doesn't mean it ignited at the time set on the clock (12:48?). You can set these alarms for any time and then set the timer for any interval of time. They took the plastic/glass faceplates out, so it would have been possible to quickly and easily set the clock to, say, 12:30 and then set the alarm at 12:45 even if the real time was 9am, 8:33am, etc. With the hour hand at the 12, the minute hand at the 6, and the alarm hand at the 9, this timing device would go off in 15 minutes.
In the first image, the minute and hour hands are gone, but the alarm is set at 12, which means it was either set to ignite on the hour (if they set the clock to the correct time) or they used the 12 mark to make it ignite in a relative amount of time. For example, they could have set the clock to any time with the minute hand at the 45 minute mark (the "9") and that would give the timer 15 minutes before it would ignite. Since these clocks can be set to any time to make timing the ignition easy in chunks of 15-30 minutes, we will never know what time these devices were actually set to go off.
Dylan said it would be the most nerve-wracking 15 minutes of his life waiting for the timers to go off before they would start shooting, so they probably did set them for 15 minutes. If that's true, since they planted the bombs at 11am, they would have set them to ignite at 11:15, which makes sense, considering that's about when Dylan went into the cafeteria to apparently check on the bombs and then they started shooting right after.
And they wouldn't need to set the clocks to the actual time to make them go off in 15 minutes. They could have set a clock to 3:45 and set the alarm hand at the 12 and it would have gone off in 15 minutes. So again, we can't tell what time they actually ignited, only that they did ignite given their condition. The timers could have ignited in the bag at the right time and then fizzled out fast. In the video linked above, you'll see how hard it is to get fuse to ignite from this type of circuit, even when the circuit is made correctly and there is no lack of oxygen like there is in a closed bag.
How did they wire their circuits if it didn't involve the hands?
They set up their timers to complete the circuit with the hammer by ringing the bells. Don't worry, this isn't a functional circuit, nobody can take this information and use it. It's trash. However, it is a huge mistake a lot of people make when using alarm clocks to power DIY electronics projects.
Go back to the first alarm clock. Notice that there is only one wire connected to the bells - it's connected to the left bell. Notice the rest of the wire is out of the picture frame. Notice also that the metal hammer that rings the bells is missing from the clock. The hammer is either connected to an alligator clip on the other end of that wire and was ripped off the clock, or it completely fell out of the clock.
Also notice the duct tape on the metal bar that connects the bells. That's not there to hold the battery. The tape is wrapped over the space where they likely cut the bar in the middle.
Here's a video that shows the end result of igniting a very similar ignition source using the same type of circuit they made, but with 4x the battery power and at least 2x the number of matches to keep the flame going AND the person who created this is preventing the hammer from moving, so the circuit doesn't break 10x a second. This is MORE powerful than what they created, and observe how weak this is:
https://youtu.be/5yjeUDBeXJ0
There's your maximum oh-so-powerful, deadly, "could have taken down the library and killed 500+ people" bomb ignition potential right there.
It's completely understandable that the response that day was to be cautious of their bombs. However, there is absolutely no reason to perpetuate the idea that their bombs could have ever gone off or posed a threat beyond the pressure release valve filling the cafeteria with gas that would ignite, or the fire we see in the CCTV footage. There never could have been any explosions even if they had created a proper electrical circuit (this is discussed in a previous post).
The media is fully responsible for creating Eric and Dylan to be legendary school shooters and failed bombers, where they almost killed hundreds of people. Not so. That's not reality.
From the other post about this:
The puny fire we see on the CCTV tape was all they ever could have achieved. The "cafeteria bombs" were not bombs. They were heavy things that resembled bombs made by two people who were living in a fantasy world trying to play "bomber" when in reality, they had no clue what they were doing.
When Eric wrote about possibly leaving the battery out of the device and then putting it in when he got the bomb into the commons to avoid having it blow up right then, he was dreaming. That's not how timers even work. He was puffing himself up in his own writing/verbal expressions on the Basement Tapes to make himself feel like he was a badass bomber who knew what he was doing. In reality, he was just like every other teenager, struggling with life more than most, and he had no idea how to be a real criminal. He wasn't the type, but he tried desperately to step into that image to become somebody in death, because he knew, just like everyone knows, that people don't care until you're dead. At least, from his perspective that was the only truth he knew.
Now who taught them this circuitry? I know for a fact that other TCMers knew how to make timers that worked and were quite powerful. Why would they choose this specific circuitry when the other option is far more popular and reliable? Someone out there is responsible for teaching them poorly (and thankfully, because they taught them wrong). To my knowledge, this bad circuitry is not in the ACB, so where the heck did they the idea from?
Did they have a friend taking an electronics course who taught them things here and there? Michelle Hartsough admitted to teaching them how to de-powder fireworks to use the powder for other purposes, since her dad was a pyrotechnics guy.
Someone out there knows the answer. They may even be reading this right now. Perhaps.
Columbine is a great example of how appearances can be deceiving. This is true on many levels, but especially with those "bombs." Now why would the media push that angle so hard? The story that they could have killed hundreds and it's a miracle their cafeteria bombs didn't go off?
I still think it was to cover for the fact that they used a bomb protocol that day and didn't get everyone into the building fast enough. Maybe it was their only line of defense against being sued into oblivion. Tell the families, community, judges, and juries that you couldn't go into the school because the whole school was booby-trapped (give me a break - booby-trapped with crickets?) and there were deadly devices everywhere (you mean pipe bombs that blew off an end cap at best?) and nobody will question you if you're the expert. Of course they had to be careful. They could have been injured, absolutely. Their pipe bombs had some power, but not enough to kill people with shrapnel (what shrapnel? They mostly remained intact), and not enough to warrant the lack of entry into the building. But, that's hindsight I guess.
So get the media to remind everyone for months and years that these two teenagers were in total control of the school with massively powerful, super-deadly bombs everywhere, and make the scene sound more dangerous than it really was for all those officers outside... and it will be believed. Man, they're legends because of this.
But leak one evidence photo of a timing device that gives away the whole show (plus other details in the documentation about the components) and when people notice the details, the circus comes to a close.
Th-th-th-th-th-th-th-that's all folks!

2023.06.04 04:40 DewinterCor In defense of Edmure

In defense of Edmure.
Edmure gets clowned on alot by people and im of the opinion that's its incredibly unfair.
So I want to look at his blunder at the Fords and explain why it isn't actually a blunder, but instead is an instance of tactical brilliance.
Edmure is given the task of defending Riverrun and the Riverlands while Robb marches into the West and sacks castles. Edmure is then clowned for turning back Tywin's attempts to march west, Robb had intended to entrap Tywin and destroy his host.
But Edmure doesn't know this. No one but Robb knows this. This is a classic example of holding cards too close to one's chest, Robb blunders by not keeping his principle commanders informed.
Edmure on the other hand fulfills his task with flying callers. Let's preface by saying the Battle of the Fords is a direct match up between Tywin and Edmure. Tywin has 22,000 men and Edmure has 11,000. Tywin attempts on more than a dozen occasions to cross several different rivers with his host and Edmure successfully prevents Tywin from ever gaining a foothold and he inflicts heavy losses on Tywin's host.
I think it's an testament to Edmure's leadership that he was not only able to match an army twice his size but also completely invalidate Tywin's campaign. Tywin is utterly beaten by Edmure and forces to order a full retreat, despite having a 2-1 numerical advantage and the initiative advantage.
We should be giving Edmure the credit he deserves for this, and lamenting the misfortune of Robb's failure to inform his most powerful bannerman of the plans at hand. I wish people would stop writing Edmure as the incompetent lord and portray him more accurately as a Lord who cares and does the best he can to protect those he is responsible for.

2023.06.04 04:35 Legitimate-Gur-1622 fraudUP

Hi all! Hopefully this post gives you all of what you need to know about thredUP. I am an ex employee, I worked there for a little over 3 years and this has been the most toxic, unprofessional, and simply THE most laughable job I have ever worked for. I do not even know where to start…
Their mission: thredUP’s mission is to inspire a generation to think second hand first, which is great! They are promoting sustainability and the recycling of clothes. However, they are not true to their mission. They do not recycle, ANYTHING in the warehouses. Everything such as food waste, paper, trash, gloves, and everything else goes in trash cans and straight into the dumpster. In addition, their shipping methods make NO sense. For example, I ordered an item from Georgia and Pennsylvania (Keep in mind I live in GA), they send the GA item to PA for it to be PACKED then shipped back out to GA?!?!? HELLO? CO2 EMISSIONS!! I was flabbergasted — just imagine how many orders they do that to. They are hypocrites.
Leaders: Like I said, I have worked with thredUP for 3 years so I know the full run down of what goes on in that circus show. First things first, they do not give one single f**k about their employees. They have this facade of “we are a people first company” blah blah blah. They aren’t. Point Blank Period. I have heard out of area managers’ and operations managers’ mouths that they simply do not CARE for the people that are the reason they have that job in the first place! They overwork everyone from regular associates to the trainers/leads. If you go to them with feedback regarding ANYTHING, they brush it off, laugh it off, hand it off to the next person etc… the managers in that building are CLOWNS! Oh I forgot to mention how they are all in cliques, like it is so embarrassingly obvious and they are ALL SO FAKE. They do NOT know wtf is going on at all and when you ask them more questions, they get mad and now you have a target on your back. I have seen team members break down, CRYING interacting with these managers, they are the most unempathetic, tunnel visioned, and brainless individuals.
Leads/Trainers: This part of leadership is not terrible, they work with you and try to understand but there are some leads that are so far up management’s a** that they will do anything to make them look good for that promotion. Which brings me to another topic: favoritism! They do not even try to make it not obvious, it is insane! The trainers are decent but they also can be far up management’s a**. Speaking of training, it is terrible. Managers try to control and force-feed new hires so much information that it is concerning! Then when new hires forget because so much was given to them, the trainer is at fault…like WHAT?!?!? They do not allow flexibility for the trainer to do their job properly because management wants their hand in everything.
HR: Another circus show…they are also so FAR UP management’s a** that it is suspicious! Anytime you have a target on your back, HR is working with them to get you out of there…They will find ANY reason to get you out of there, ANY! From personal experience, I brought up a concern to HR regarding a manager and some other matters, and I got a disciplinary action few weeks later…NO ONE IS SAFE!! You can’t go to anyone in management because they are working together to make the lives of employees 10x harder than they need to be.
There is SO much more to be said but I will let another ex or current employees also voice their experiences here.
Moral of the story: Do not work here!Avoid it at allll costs!! I will no longer support thredUP from my experience and I hope you all stop giving them your money

2023.06.04 04:34 zxzxzxz19 PC won't connect to monitor

Before we begin, keep in mind i understand little to nothing about how computers, specs, monitors etc.
Anyways, recently i bought this PC from this site called Computer Lounge, i have had no previous issues or problems until now, i went away to stay at my friends place for about a week i came back to find that i had unknowingly left my PC powered on for an entire week (the switch at the back was on, not anything else)
Im not sure if this is the cause of my problem, when i natrually attemted to turn on my PC, there were no original errors, ran perfectly. That was until the moniter flickered to black after about 20 minutes. This brings us to where i am now, whenever i attempt to boot my PC i get a "No Signal" or variations synonymous with that depending on what monitor i experiment with.
When i first encountered this i tried to use a different monitor, though it led to the same result, my leading theory right now is that its a internal problem with the PC.
Ive looked online via google searches but none have worked for me so far.
ill provide information, photos etc about any of this hardware if needed.

2023.06.04 04:33 Stepparent_10 Advice on SM doing pick ups from HCBM when kids are on summer break since SO won’t be able to due to working all day.

A little background.
As a stepmother to two children aged 10 and 9, I am dealing with my partner's high-conflict biological mother who has made things difficult for us. My partner and the mother were never married, but they were together for nine years until he found out she cheated on him and got pregnant with someone else's child. He left her in late 2018, and she was left as a single mother with a newborn from her affair. The other guy left her as well. Despite this, she demanded that SO continued to help her financially with rent and phone bills, threatening him with child support if he didn't comply. She also demanded that he give her rides everywhere since she didn't have a car and refused to ask her other child's father for help because she wasn’t in a relationship with him.
My partner did his best to help her out, but she took advantage of his kindness and would often refuse her own parenting time that they had agreed on, due to her own plans and activities. There were instances where the biological mother had not been home on her scheduled days for drop off and my partner had to keep the kids for weeks. She would turn her phone off, ignore texts and calls so he was forced to keep the kids. She would inform him that she wasn't going home for the night and would be out. On other occasions, she would say that she was working six days a week and wanted to have her own plans on her only day off, leaving my partner to watch the kids during her scheduled time. He helped her a lot due to her needing a sitter during her work hours and her refusing to watch the kids during her time. She would also change pick-up locations for my partner last minute and make him wait for long periods of time during exchanges, causing him to be late to work, and miss other important commitments.
In 2020, she moved in with her boyfriend (AP and now they have 3 younger kids) . SO thought since she was settling down, she would stick to a schedule and be more responsible so they agreed to a 2/2/5/5 schedule, but she still refused to stick to it and it became worse because she would often make him wait for hours to pick up or drop off the kids. Or wouldn’t be home for the kids on her days. He even called the cops on her once when he waited over an hour to pick up the kids, and her phone was off. Her complex has gated controlled access so he can’t enter the complex. Additionally, at that time, she refused to drop off the kids to him when he asked, claiming that she didn't have a car, no ride and refused to take Uber or Lyft due to COVID. She only found transportation for her convenience & only decided to drop off the kids to him when it was convenient for her, when she had plans on her parenting time. She also threatened to not follow the schedule if he left without the kids for pick ups because she was taking too long to exchange. She threatened my bf with calling the cops on him for having a stranger she didn’t know watch the kids at his place during his time because he had to work.
There was a time when my partner asked the biological mother to help him watch the kids for a few hours a week while he finished his training for a new job, since she wasn’t working, but she refused. This caused him to push back his training due to not having childcare. During this time, his car broke down, and he was unable to drop off the kids to her. He asked her to pick them up, but she claimed she had no ride and refused to take a Lyft due to COVID.
When my partner finally put his foot down, she didn't pick up the kids until a week and a half later, leaving him to have them for two full weeks. During this time, she complained about not being able to pick them up and accused him of keeping the kids from her. She threatened to call the cops on him and interrogated the kids about whether his car was really broken down or not.
She finally picked up the kids after not having a ride, but conveniently told my partner she was dropping them off the day of which was only two days later when she was supposed to keep them for five days. This caused him to lose his job due to not having childcare in such short notice.
When she dropped off the kids, my partner talked to her and told her how much he and his mom had helped her with childcare in the past and how he lost his job because she wasn't willing to help him out when he had never asked her for anything. She kept telling him it wasn't her fault he lost his job, and she blamed him for not sticking to the schedule and not wanting to drop off the kids to her saying that’s why he lost his job. He was already stressed and had enough. She then went to his mom and told her he had no right to tell her those things because it wasn't her fault he lost his job. Overall, it was a difficult and stressful time for my partner.
After that incident he told her that she needed to provide transportation for her time since she had a ride to conveniently drop them off after not being able to pick them up causing a hardship for him. So the following month she started doing pick ups with Lyft/Uber because my partner was not helping her out anymore and by this time she had her second child with her bf. She had taken advantage of his transportation long enough.
In late 2021 she and her bf finally got a car but she doesn’t drive so she gets rides from him or Lyft/uber for pick ups. He finally decided to file for his parental rights and 50/50 legal and physical custody but didn’t go into any details of it in 2021, but she still continued to be difficult and never showed up to mediation or responded to the papers she was served.
Dilemma
Now, I am helping with pick-ups since my partner has two new jobs and is unavailable during the day. However, I am nervous that the biological mother will give me a hard time and make me wait or change pick-up locations during exchanges.
The biological mother would often call me out and insult me through my partner's phone conversations about the kids. I tried to reach out to her to establish a mutual level of respect and maturity, but she refused and refused to meet me, was disrespectful and blocked my number, saying she doesn't need to text me about anything.
I am looking for advice on how to handle pick-ups with my partner's high-conflict biological mother (HCBM) and ensure that I am treated fairly. One option we are considering is having my partner communicate with HCBM to let her know that I will be picking up the kids from her place only (so she doesn’t try to change locations and have me drive around and if she does, I will simply ask her to let me know when they are back at her house to pick them up) and let her know that I will only wait for 15 minutes to receive them. ( This is because in the past, HCBM has made my partner wait for over an hour for pick-up just for her enjoyment)
I want to avoid similar situations and ensure that HCBM knows that I won't tolerate mistreatment during pick-ups or at all. Any advice on how to handle this situation would be appreciated.

2023.06.04 04:33 arcadefire08 USD from option spreads in a CAD account = taxed twice?

Hi everyone, this topic is difficult enough to find resources on for just options tax treatment, but at least there is some information. However, nobody seems to be talking about what do I do with the USD I get from options and how do I treat it when I want to convert it to CAD (Canadian Dollars) so I can withdraw it.
As I understand, options buying and selling need to take the CRA exchange rate for that day. I need to convert the buy/sell price on that specific day, convert the USD gain/cost to CAD, and then similiarly convert the closing gain/cost to CAD, and subtract CAD with CAD to get each position's gain/loss. This is annoying but possible if I get paid in CAD, but not only do I get USD, the USD sticks around!
Secondly as I understand, I need to pay taxes on USD if I have it and try to convert it back to CAD. This totally makes perfect sense for USD that I have personally converted from CAD to. BUT what about the USD that I get from thin-air by option selling?
Normally, if I randomly get some USD, CRA would tell me it's income, but in this case, the USD as part of the options position would already be taxed in the initial paragraph. However, I most likely won't be converting the USD to CAD at exactly the rate that the CRA is telling me to use to calculate for the options gain for the day. Nor would I likely be converting it actually on the same day I exit each options position, and would just keep the USD for as long as I don't need CAD.
Here is what I'm guessing: when I trade a position, the USD that is related to that specific position immediately converts to an "USD investment" with a cost basis of the day's CRA daily exchange rate as the buy-in/exit cost. However, are we being serious right now? I would have to keep not only the CRA CAD gain/loss, but also maintain a continuous ledger of my USD position cost-basis as if I took CAD and entered into USD positions at the CRA daily rate every time I take an options trade.
Is there anyone with any experience dealing with this mumbo jumbo mess of rules that results from receiving USD with options? Is there an easier or more straightforward way? I get what I described may be the most straight-laced way, but is it arguably humanly acceptable to use an easier way?

2023.06.04 04:30 traumamauart I need advice

Hi everyone here. I've posted here a lot recently, view my profile if you'd like to see some of the posts I've made. I'm 22f and living in Orlando FL. I'm asking for resources/advice/any ideas for my situation. Basically I'm extremely low functioning, diagnosed with PTSD and CPTSD, and I have lost everything. I don't work, don't have a car, and don't know how to go about receiving therapy that I need. I currently live in a toxic environment and I don't know the steps I need to take to get my life back.
2 years ago I had my own appartment, car, well paying job. Ive lost everything due to massive events from prolonged trauma. I can no longer mask, I can hardly keep up with my personal hygiene at all, and I sleep over 16 hours daily. Ive tried contacting local crisis units, tried applying for affordable health care, and nothing has worked out this far.
Crisis teams have promised to "call me back" which hasnt happened, and applying for affordable health care has been a complicated process. And asks me to provide information that I do not understand how to provide and cannot provide, such as the incomes of the other people in my household. I can't ask the other person in my household, because they are a family member and I (rightfully) cannot trust this family member at all. I've tried just guessing to fill out the info but that doesnt seem to work. I live here out of necessity. I need help, I just am completely lost and don't know what to do.
I understand everyone here needs help and support. I dont expect anything to come of this, but if anyone has been similarly affected by CPTSD and has any advice for me that's why I'm posting this. Thanks for taking the time to read, thank you and I hope you get everything that you need honestly.

2023.06.04 04:29 Delicious-Bed6760 My PC monitor keeps blacking out and forcing me to reset. I'll give other information and fixes I've tried below.

My PC monitor has been blacking out and forcing me to reset for years. I’ve tried a number of things that don’t work.
First off; after not touching my computer for a couple minutes, it goes black, but It reverts back after moving my mouse, this is normal right? (This isn't the problem, just a side note).
Main problem: My PC monitor often goes black when I'm in the middle of doing something, and I can only revert it by resetting the computer with the power button. A few things: I hear and error message when it happens, but obviously I can't read it because it's black and when I reset, it goes away. I have tried taking a screenshot, but that comes out as black too. So far, this problem of going only happens when I'm playing video games, opposed to a google doc or YouTube.
Originally, we thought it was a problem with the heat. The fans didn't work, so we took off the glass and it still kept shutting off. Eventually, we figured that out because it was a cable issue, and for a couple weeks the PC did not black out. It started up again seemingly out of nowhere. I don't think heat is an issue. A possible issue could be the lower supply, which is what I read online somewhere. When I turn on my PC, the GPU and motherboard have a little LED that flashes res for a split second then disappears, I'm not sure what that means or if that is normal.
When the PC blacks out when I'm playing a game, I usually hear a error message sound, which is a high and happy note (I don't how to describe it lol). The sound in my game is strange. It keeps the background noises, but not what's actually going on currently. For example, when I play "dead by daylight" and it crashes, I can hear the character breathing and the sounds around me, but if a killer was chasing me and it shuts off, I can't hear him running to me or hitting me. It's very strange how the sound only effects some things and pauses others. When I'm talking the game chat or on discord and it goes black, I'm able to say "hey guys my screen went black, need to reset". After a small amount of time the audio cuts out entirely or glitches. The glitch only happened once or twice in a call, and caused the person to repeat the same sound over and over until I reset.
I overclocked my GPU a while ago using an app (MSI afterburner), but recently reverted it. The app had a feature to set the fan speed, so I set it to 100% and that's what I keep now.
Thank you very much for your time and effort in reading this post!

2023.06.04 04:28 toupee_fiasco I got fired this week from a small cocktail bar for being the only member of a tiny staff to openly address the manager’s many shortcomings.

I’ve just been blindsided and I’m incredibly angry, just looking to vent. Thanks in advance for reading, it’s long:
Also maybe this is more of an antiwork post, sorry if this doesn’t follow the rules
I should start off by saying I’ve never been fired before, and every other job I’ve held I has regarded me as a highly efficient, responsible, professional member of the team. I know my value, and refuse to be treated less-than.
I had worked at this bar for two years, which was opened three years ago by a first-time owner. She was a friend and previous coworker, and ended up needing someone to help in a pinch in the wake of the sudden death of her employee/mutual friend of ours. I was more than happy to step in. It was well designed and had the potential to eventually be a goldmine.
Year 1 was great and I met the love of my life there (I know it’s dangerous to date coworkers and that it causes issues for management, I should highlight that it is not the focus of any issue I’ve had with my manager [we’ll call her C]). I began to realize slowly that, given her having hired only friends to work in her establishment, there were very clear favorites, and that many times when we needed a “boss” we only had a “friend”. My work started to suffer because of her inability to communicate properly, the fact that she favored certain people for better shifts and opportunities, and that she had rigid ideas for how things should be run—regardless of whether or not any of the people who had to follow her guidelines were hindered by them. Things would be great for a few months, and then she would make a major change to “make things more efficient” that would make things MORE complicated, make us do MORE work, and make us LESS money. And almost every single time, it was ME who would take the brunt of the hinderance.
But all of that was manageable, given that I have a part-time day job and spend most of my creative energy being a touring musician. It wasn’t until I started to notice that EVERYONE ELSE in the bar was being offered better opportunities, being offered more spotlight on the cocktail menu and social media presence, being favored for making more money, and being given WAY MORE positive reinforcement that I started to push back. I started to push back on when decisions were made that forced me to do more work for less money. I began demanding that C walk herself through explaining things in detail that were poorly, or not at all, communicated to me. As I said, I know my value and I began to see that I was being treated with far less respect than anyone else there.
Everyone else was getting cocktails put on the menu long-term, everything the I sent her went nowhere. Everyone else was getting validation from her, paid in the form of being offered tastings, or Instagram spotlights, or promotions/better shifts. In one case, a coworker got paid in a vacation with her. I got nothing, and beyond that started getting penalized for minor things. My partner (whom is objectively the strongest bartender I’ve ever worked with in the 7 years I’ve been doing this) got switched off a slow night that we shared in direct response to the only time we’d argued onshift; when she got switched she was told it was because she’d make more money on the other night (which was true)—I was told that it was because we don’t work well together and we needed to be split up.
C and I would butt heads constantly, even though other coworkers of mine had histories of getting black out on shift and being sent home, or DRIVEN home by the other owner, or taking their clothes off behind the bar mid-shift, or giving hundreds of dollars of liquor away. And all I would do is ask her to communicate properly and ask that she thinks more critically about changes she makes that affect us negatively.
There’s plenty more worth noting, but it all came to a head when the other owner told me and my partner (who has been entirely in agreement with me about C’s faults, and has further fuel to dislike her, regarding her spreading personal information behind her back) that everything we said was in confidence when asked how things were going. I was honest, and told him in detail the ways I’ve felt slighted, and that it feels connected to the fact that I seem to be the only one to address issues with her to her face. My partner had more personal things to say about her regarding her integrity and reputation. Well, big fucking surprise: the co-bar owner lied. He told her everything that we’d said, but apparently spun it in a way where I was the one dragging c’s reputation through the mud, when I was only citing circumstances of unprofessionalism.
I went on tour for a month, during which C asked my partner if they could meet to address our conversation with the other owner—it never went further than that. A week later, C took my partner and another coworker out for dinner and drinks for an ENTIRE night to discuss cocktail menu specs (which is an offer I NEVER) would have gotten, the conversation was never discussed once—further my partner got an offer for a promotion. I got home from tour five days ago, and the day after I got back I got fired, with that conversation being cited as the specific catalyst.
I had wanted to leave a long time ago, and I know there’s a silver lining in being let go, but I’m still so angry. It affects my money, it affects my relationship, my potential ability to continue touring. Above all, it affects my reputation, which I have worked incredibly hard to maintain as a reliable and efficient employee. I have to face a huge friend group that is involved in that bar as the only person to have ever been fired from there, and not even for doing anything wrong. I’ve been humiliated, and I’m so uncontrollably upset.
If you’ve read this long, I appreciate you and want you to know you’re great at what you do. Keep going, even if everyone else is reaping the benefits of their work when you’re not. And above all: don’t work for bars your friends own. I lost a close friend because of their unprofessionalism, don’t let it happen to you.
