2023.06.04 06:18 thebigwet87 So little stock in Sydney on the market! Will it change?
I'm at the bottom level of being able to afford to buy here; a house in the cheapest areas...but there is so few stock on the sale so whatever does come up, is selling for way way more than its worth..6 months ago when I started similar properties were taking a while to sell, but I didn't have my finance in order so couldn't buy. Will this shortage of stock change? Not sure if I jump in and buy any old thing to get in the market before prices rise and sell when I find something I like better or hold off hoping conditions improve??
A 3 bedroom wooden shack in North Parramatta quoted at 890 went for 1.2 and it was very very average..same house next door (but with one less bedroom) quoted at 950 in Dec 22 went for 875 a few months later

2023.06.04 06:17 BuilderTomorrow Please critique my education-focused road trip in the US south/southeast!
Good evening!
I'm in the process of planning a road trip for July that is education-centric -- specifically space/astronomy and US History. This is my first time planning a road trip with so many stops, so I would very much appreciate feedback from those who are more experienced.
I've set a goal of trying to have no more than 7 hours of driving in any one day. and wrapping up all the driving before it gets dark. Otherwise, I'm trying to be pretty flexible.
I'd welcome any thoughts! I especially like short "stretch your legs" roadside stops. If you know of any on this route, please let me know!
Day 1 Drive to Memphis
Check out Beale street for Dinner
Day 2 National Civil Rights museum in Memphis
Drive to Buffalo National River
Set up camp and take an evening hike, do some stargazing
Day 3 Canoe trip down the Buffalo National River
More stargazing and spend the night at camp
Day 4 Drive toward Houston, TX
Stop in Little Rock to visit the Little Rock Central High School national historic site
Stop somewhere north of Houston for the night
Day 5 Finish drive to visit Space Center Houston
Spend the day at Space Center Houston
Drive a little further south and spend the night in Galveston
Day 6 Visit the Galveston Naval Museum and Fishing Pier
Take the Galveston ferry
Drive to New Orleans with a possible stop to see the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge depending on timing
Day 7 National World War II Museum in New Orleans during the day
Sightseeing in NOLA that night
Spend second night in New Orleans
Day 8 Guided history tour in New Orleans
Drive to Selma, AL
Stop in Mobile along the way to see the USS Alabama
Day 9 Selma to Montgomery historical trail with various sights along the way
Visit the Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery
Drive on to Birmingham to spend the night
Day 10 Walking tour of major Civil Rights landmarks in Birmingham
Drive on to Huntsville to spend the night
Day 11 Visit US Space and Rocket Center

2023.06.04 06:17 dizzy_the_elephant is it just me or do zombies spawn WAY more often when you are driving rather than walking?
its gonna be difficult for me to explain this because im a dumbass but try to follow me.
so have you ever been driving from one city to another and while driving through a empty road in the middle of the forest to riverside for example you think to yourself "holy shit thats a lot of zombies spawning in the middle of fucking nowhere!" now do all of that cool holiday drive again but this time walking on foot. it looks like there isnt even a zombie apocalypse going on! i probally sound crazy right now but please someone tell me if this happens to you too
i noticed this for the first time when i was fooling around driving home from the military store up north from rosewood and managed to crash my car 50mph in a broken car. and when i had to walk back home like a idiot i noticed how apparently zombies spawn WAY less when you are walking instead of driving.
this also goes for everywhere like cities and such. but its more noticeable on lone roads in the nowhere. this doesnt go for places you have already visited tho. only "unvisited chunks" can do that

2023.06.04 06:10 OhDatsStanky Cross Country Ninja - Day 4
| Out early and rolling! The bike was getting just at 60mpg yesterday but my first tank of the day sucked. 50mpg. Couldn’t figure it out. Next two tanks were both over 60mpg. All three running the same 70-71mph. Finally figured it must’ve been the elevation. Anyway, scooter was humming down through Beatty towards Death Valley. Forecast app said it would be 87. I showed up an hour behind schedule and it was 100 (at 1030am) and climbing fast. I changed clothes fast, chugged water, and evacuated. Glad to say though that the bike didn’t seem to mind. Cooling system kept up until I made it out of the valley. That place just looks life threatening. It was intimidating. Temperature cooled off coming out of the valley then heated right back up going into Las Vegas. Decided to check out the Hoover Dam, what a dumb tourist trap. Hari Krishna everywhere, waddling sunburned tourists pouring out of their Winnebagos, and everyone going nowhere fast. Saturday was not the day to go. Snapped a crappy pic and hauled ass. Was really worried about the clutch. Low speed maneuvering through the human cattle got something hot enough to make that hot metal smell. Engine and brakes were great, so I assume it was the clutch. Fortunately no damage. This is when the heat got me. Shut me down for an hour north of Kingman, and I was in bad shape. I think I had the beginnings of heat exhaustion. Recovered and made a run for Flagstaff. It cooled off and I had the best luck outrunning the rain. 625 miles. My ass is kicked, but the bike is ready for more tomorrow! Oh yeah, one last thing. I’m now getting 62-64mpg running 75-80mph. Granted it’s all highway, but what an incredible machine! submitted by OhDatsStanky to Ninja400 [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 06:07 mm9983 The kids told me what happened and I can't do anything
I (38M) broke up with my GF (28F) recently because of her infidelity and I can't stop thinking about her 2 kids (4M and 2M). We meet last year and officially started dating in Jan. When I meet her kids for the first time, I noticed that the older kid behavior was not normal. I come from a big family with a lot of nieces and nephews and I am normally good with kids. I didn't want to blame anyone at that time but me and her had a talk about the kids and she was not sure what was going on. I told her a trick which I use (play with them till they are tired and then when they want to sleep, ask them question. Their guards are down at that time and they mostly answer truthfully). She used it and the older kid told her that the Grandpa (Boy Father's Dad) was molesting him. It was night time but we still took the kids to Children's Hospital. I spend the whole night with her and the kids at the hospital. The therapist and social worker confirmed that something has happened and they took the matter to the police. Now, my Ex was/is a horrible Mom in my view. She was dropping the kids at the grand parents house because they were separated and she wants to party each weekend. From Friday night till Sunday evening she is high as a kite and partying with friends. Before we meet, she also had a BF (23M) who was also just into partying. They would drop the kids at grand parents or their dad's and would party all weekend. Now I might be old school but I believe a mother who is working all week do deserve some free time but every weekend non stop partying was just too much in my view. Then I was a upset that this was going on for 6 months and it was me who had to come and tell her that the kids are not acting normally and she needs to do something. By the way, the very next weekend she dropped them at a friend's house so that she can do drugs to "numb" her pain.
I think she never liked this about me that even though I can provide stability and sense in her life, I was not a party guy plus I hate doing drugs. Never done them in my life and no plans of changing that. I would show displeasure regarding her parties and she would argue with me that she needs them to keep her sane.
Now back to the case, police investigated both Grand dad (who is a Pastor) and Dad of the kids (will call him T). Dad was cleared immediate but grand parents are still under investigation without any major progress made.
To give everyone a distraction, I took all of them to a trip to Miami Beach in March. Boys never saw the beach before and they were super happy. We spent sometime at the beach and come back. But during our trip, she ask me if I can inquire more from the kids. In few short weeks, I got super close with the kids to a point that the oldest one was calling me Dad which was further making his real dad and mom angry (I never ask him to say that and even tried to stop him but he still call me dad). She knew both kids will tell me things, which they would never tell her so she ask me if I can ask for more details. I hesitantly agreed. I started with the youngest one who gave me some horrific details and confirmed that T also did the unforgivable act. I was besides myself and was seeing blood. I told her what they told me. She was upset at that point and told T that he cannot see the kids. This goes on for 2 weeks but she now wanted to find a place to drop the kids so she can party. At that exact time, police cleared T because he passed a polygraph test (I believe those tests are a joke).
So what did my GF do. She told T, who was homeless at that time that he can stay with her during the weekends and can look after the kids so that she can go and party. I was beyond myself and we had few fights. I told her, regardless what police has told her, I don't believe T one bit. But she defended him. In the mean time, she cheated on me with her drug dealer and I found out immediately. Things were already heating up between us so I called it off.
Now her new BF (who I suspect is a drug dealer), her ex husband T and kids are living with her in a 2 bed 1 bathroom house. She works 5 days a week (she has a good corporate job) and party on the weekend with her BF. Father has the kids.
I know those are not my kids but I just can't unheard what I hear and I still feel the trauma. I can't believe that she let T and then a druggie to stay at her house with her kids. I can't go to CPS because they will find nothing. Police already cleared everyone involved and I feel I am letting those poor kids down. I would have stayed with her just because of them, if she would have made it a little bit easier for me. But in the end, I was suffering every minute with her. The way she parents them and the abuse I saw in these short months, made me sad and sometimes I want to cry just because I feel so helpless. I can only hope for a miracle now because I can't think of any other option.
About her, she is 28 with 3 kids (1 kid was adopted by grand parents) with a good job, but in my view still behaves like a 19 year old. No sense of response, no sense of financial literacy and always consider her kids as a burden. In her view, coming home and reading them children stories every night and giving them food is more than enough. I am a single dad myself and most of my off time and weekends are spent with my kids, catering to their needs and taking them to sports/places. I know it's hard but we brought them to this world and it is our responsibility to make sure they are safe and taken care. It was just to unload everything I had in my mind. Thanks for reading and please ignore all my grammar mistakes. SORRY

2023.06.04 05:34 Bronze_Age_472 (Spoilers Extended) A Red Woman, A Second Son (who would be a Usurper Uncle)
Stannis:
You know this story.
His name is Stannis. He is a second son. He is obsessed with his nephew, in particular this nephew's legal claims (to land, to wealth and power)*.
We the reader BELIEVE Joffrey is not legitimate, but that is not important. What is important is that Stannis is Joffrey's uncle. Joffrey is young (and the most vulnerable he will ever be in his life).
Stannis brings to the North a "red" woman. Men say she's essentially his "wife". She worships a foreign religion, alien and hostile to the gods of the North.
But he his not alone. As they say in star wars... There is another.
Tyrion.
You know this story as well.
Tyrion is a second son.
He is also an uncle. This uncle toys with the idea (but as yet does not commit to the deed) of murdering and overthrowing his nephew. He considers the murder of Joffrey and placing an amiable younger brother who he could rule though instead. A usurpation... You might say.
While we the reader are biased FOR Tyrion because we follow his POV chapters, I can tell you as an uncle it is NOT NORMAL to think about murdering your nephew. And if you doubt that Tyrion is a would-be usurper Uncle... Why else was he reading about Valyrian machines of war IN PEACE TIME (Robert's reign has been peaceful for over a decade now)? This is a clear reference to Shakespeare's Richard III who says he cannot enjoy peace time.
Richard III's famous "Winter of discontent" speech
"...But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks, Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass; I, that am rudely stamp'd, and want love's majesty To strut before a wanton ambling nymph; I, that am curtail'd of this fair proportion, Cheated of feature by dissembling nature, Deformed, unfinish'd, sent before my time Into this breathing world, scarce half made up, And that so lamely and unfashionable That dogs bark at me as I halt by them; Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace, Have no delight to pass away the time, Unless to spy my shadow in the sun And descant on mine own deformity: And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover, To entertain these fair well-spoken days, I am determined to prove a villain"
I admit however that this is subjective and that some uncles may have good reason to have these thoughts.... ;)
If we are to believe the results of his trial by combat, he succeeded in the murder of his nephew (for which he contemplated and threatened to do (before witnesses) and was formally accused).
Again, it does not matter if Tyrion ACTUALLY killed Joffrey. What matters is that he contemplated it. He threatened it before witnesses. And was accused. This puts him into the archetype GRRM has made.
What matters are Tyrion's incentives which place him in competition with his own young nephew. What matters is that Tyrion fits an existing pattern of second sons, who contemplate usurping their young nephews.
Lastly, Tyrion fits this pattern in another bizarre way. He married a red haired girl. A Tully girl to be precise.
The Bloodstone Emperor
The Bloodstone Emperor is a usurper. We know very little of him.
We know he usurps from his sister, the Amethyst Empress.
We also know he takes a Tiger Woman (aka a "Cat") for his bride...
Arnold Karstark
This uncle tries to usurp his nephew (the rightfull lord Rickard Karstark). He declares for Stannis on an attempt to get the rightful heir killed by his Lannister captors. Furthermore, once this rightful heir was killed it would make Alys Karstark the heir. She would then be married off to Arnolf's son.
We do not have many details about the Karstark family tree but it's highly likely that Arnold Karstark is a second son as well.
Arnolf is another example of these re occuring usurper uncles. For all we know he is also a second son... But we're not certain.
What's the point? What does all this mean?
J'accuse... Eddard Stark!
Who else took a red woman "to wife"? A Tully girl?
Who else took her North?
A woman with gods alien to the North... ?
Was she associated with "Cats" (You could call her a "Tiger Mom" by her personality type... Not for any weird reasons)?
Ned Stark... I accuse you of usurping your blood nephew Jon Snow. Or is it John Stark?
Jon Snow... Catelyn found it strange indeed that Ned declared the boy his bastard... "For all the North to see".
Jon Snow... They told you that bastards "grow faster" than trueborn sons... To hide your true birthdate...Jon Snow my boy, you know nothing... Not even your own birthday... Quite possibly you don't even know your true name...
Jon Snow... Who dreams of his place being in the Winterfell crypts... And not dragons or of Kindslanding or the Iron Throne... As would befit the son of R+L = J**.
Jon Snow... Who Catelyn and Ned Stark both dreaded as a contender for Winterfell against their own children. Why would they both dread this boy and his claims...? Unless they trumped the claims of the children of Ned and Catelyn?
Ned, Ned, Ned... You've been a bad boy***.
*I believe GRRM likes the usurper uncle trope. It's villanized in literature but it's very understandable from a human level. Consider; you are an adult man, a baby boy is heir to something valuable. Why not take it from him? He cannot defend himself or oven defend the thing of value (a lordship, a Kingdom, anything of value). You only have a small window of time to decide before the child grows to adulthood and the opportunity is lost forever. It's easier to understand than most "villains".
**Jon Snow has nothing in common with Rhaegar. No songs. No prophecy. He's a little angry at being a bastard but not Rhaegar's famous "doom and gloom".
***All these years I wondered how Ned was a "Grey" (morally) character. GRRM famously once stated he only makes characters that are a shade of grey. There are no black or white characters, just shades of grey...Just like real life. But how would Ned be grey? Unless...

2023.06.04 05:33 shipworth Blue jerseys
I have a friend who traveled down to Miami for a game but couldn't get one of those blue jerseys because they were out of stock. Are they still available? Are they only available in the team store at the arena? I'd like to get it as a gift but it is elusive.

2023.06.04 05:31 feelinlikea10 Lurker here; I don't understand where the perception that Islam is becoming mainstream in Korea comes from.
I often see posts and comments that claim Islam is spreading through Korea and Japan, which is a complete lie (for Korea, I can't speak for Japan) - whether it be the kpop posts or Daud Kim videos. I'm guessing that these claims that Islam is growing in Korea come from non-Koreans because Koreans aren't active outside Korean websites and forums. So there are barely any Koreans on English-based forums and websites like Reddit. Even the
Korea sub is full of expats and not the locals.
Just letting y'all know, none of us know who Daud Kim is. His audience is Muslims from other countries, not Koreans, so the subscribers and views do not come from us. We barely knew who he was before the rape controversy, but even that controversy wasn't anything major. It made very little noise.
For clarification, I don't hate Muslims but have strong feelings against the religion. The thing is, Islam, will never be mainstream in Korea. We are a homogenous country with an atheist background and no ethnic minorities that distinguish themselves from the population.
We had thousand years of Buddhist and Confucianist influence, but most of the population is irreligious, with Christianity being the most prominent religion and approximately 20% believing it. But truth be told, the only reason why Christianity was able to grow exponentially during the last 100 years is that it attached itself to the Liberation Movement when Japan colonized Korea. So there's that. But still, a lot of Koreans are firmly against Christianity, and I can't say that their public image is good.
The current perception of Islam is very negative, with the middle east being known as the region that has no rights for women, and the only news we get related to Islam is about terrorism. When 500 Yemeni refugees came to South Korea, many people protested to kick them out of the country because of the "Islamic threat." They faced a lot of discrimination, so many ended up leaving Korea. FYI, Korea is very xenophobic and even discriminates against neighboring countries like Japan and China. We do not like "others," even the Korean-Chinese people (called Joseonjok), which accumulated over a million people in this country over the past thirty years. Anyways Koreans value their culture as something significant and try to exterminate anything "other" to the population, so foreigners or other cultures far away from East Asia (esp the Middle East, North Africa, or Islam) are seen as something that needs to be eradicated.
There were refugees from countries like Yemen and Afghanistan, but their public reception has been very hostile. Also, Korea is known to be the worst country for foreign workers, so when Muslims come to Korea to work in blue-collar jobs, there's a recurring joke amongst Koreans that they eventually resort to eating pork and start drinking. Many workers from North Africa (especially Egypt) believe they should practice Ramadan. Still, they get fired from these blue-collar jobs and can't work due to them not eating during Ramadan and being too weak to work. So they end up rejecting Muslim workers who don't participate. So they go to other places like factories, where the Korean factories are NOTORIOUS for underpaying and even trapping Koreans to prevent them from running away. Hell, they don't even feed 'em properly. The factories are living hell in a fundamental sense. So they become desensitized to what's "haram" like drinking and eating pork. When they become de-islamized, they return to blue-collar jobs and forget about Ramadan. Allah gave up on this country during the King Sejong era. Islam just isn't compatible with Korean culture and people.
Truth be told, we are a fucked country with a wildly conservative, racist, and xenophobic population, but I do not see Islam growing in this country like ever. If anything, it's the Chinese that will take over this country. So this premise that "Islam is growing in Korea" is just bullshit - it's the foreign workers and students that come here to work and study that's praying in the mosques. The Mosques in Itaewon are filled with foreigners, and less than 10% of the people praying there are Korean. 99% of the Muslim population are foreigners, so that should tell you everything about the lies that Islam is growing in Korea. They don't even account for 1% of the population. Muslims from the Middle East and North Africa aren't even the majority of foreigners living in this Country - it's mostly the people from China, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia that account for the majority. Most children with a non-Korean background come from Thai, Cambodian or Vietnamese mothers in rural regions (unfortunately, old men procreate through mail-order brides.)
Hope this gives you a little bit of a perspective that a Korean has about the topics surrounding "Korea and Islam."
