I’ve been renting in a home that I love for the past few years. Recently, owners decided to sell. Only issue is I’m in med school and income is not consistent. 2 years left until I’ll have an income, but I’ve got ~$300k invested savings now. Home is around $7-800k. Can easily rent out rooms to cover up to half of the mortgage with $200k down. What do you think? The main advantage is I’m already living in it and I believe I can get it for about 10% under market. I have a 250 gallon tank and commercial pump at my house. I fill it with 91 non ethanol perfect for my snowmobiles, atvs, boats, and sports car. But even still, it takes me a year or more to go through 250 gallons. Does anyone else 'waste' that fuel to put in their pickups or regular cars that will happily run on 87 E10? I feel bad going to.the gas station when I have gas at home. But it's also $1-1.50 more per gallon for 91 vs 87. Thoughts?

Two weeks ago we got an invitation to a birthday party for one of our son's classmates (4-5yo) at an arcade. My son doesn't know him very well but wanted to go. The invitation said from 11-12:30 on SUNDAY June 3rd. I didn't pay close attention to the date, just that it was happening on Sunday but today is in fact SATURDAY June 3rd. We missed the party assuming it was tomorrow as his parents had the wrong day of the week om the invite.
I'm not gonna lie, it is an unfortunate mistake, but I'm fuming because 1. My son was so excited about going and is now going to throw an absolute fit when he finds out we missed it 2. The parents didn't even bother to confirm our RSVP via text and 3. We went out of our way to purchase a thoughtful gift and wrapped up etc.
What do we do here? I feel bad thinking many other kids didn't show up due to the misunderstanding. At the same time our family has no idea who this kid is and we bought a gift as the parents had formally rented a room and I assume got food etc so it was polite to do so. My thought is to just send the parent a text apologizing we missed it as the date was wrong on the RSVP and to save the gift for the next friend's birthday. Your thoughts?

January of 2020, my partner and I and, a mutual friend moved in to an old house that was for rent.
Beautiful heritage house, cheap too because it wasn’t furnished and the paint needed work. No garage or car port.
We adapted to the place fairly quickly in the first few weeks. Sometimes, we would chat with our land lady. Sweet, kind, considerate and showed interest in my wife’s work - a painter.
Lock down happened and we got stuck there. Crap, there’s no washing machine and dryer yet, had to hand wash all our stuff and air dry them.
Land lady was very helpful, provided us with clothes pins and allotted us space in the yard for our clothes.
Here comes her husband- the landlord. He’d turn off our water supply after we had filled the drums he provided for us.
Okay, doable but annoying. Then at times there was no running water for two weeks and we had to really budget our water. He said he doesn’t know why but he has control of the main valve.
Tried complaining to the local council but, they were too busy with the pandemic.
We toughed it out for six months. Until restrictions on lock downs loosened.
I was sitting on the porch just enjoying the view of the garden on a good morning. Landlord sits beside me and tells me stories of how he built the house with his father, inspiring stuff.
The way he ended it though was the last snarky remark he made. “Look at this house, it’s making me money while you young ones don’t have a house and are hard up. Well, no buying a house anytime soon for you though, given how low you rent this place from me.”
I just said yeah and continued to enjoy the view.
The very next day I turned in my two weeks notice to the land lady, we were moving out.
The land lord came out of his house and asked why we were moving out.
“Oh I was having my house built while we were here, it’s done now.”
The look on his face was indescribable. A minor win but, the satisfaction was great.

I (23f) am tired of being a babysitter for my bf’s(41m) kids. I feel so bad saying this but his kids (13 and 9)burn me out, especially the 9 year old. We have an awesome relationship and eventually would like to have kids together, however right now it’s hard on me when he takes off and asks me to babysit every once and a while. He’s a single dad, their mom only visits them 4 weeks out of the year. He’s also a business owner. I’m fond of kids, however his kids are rude and spoiled brats. Today we were all together and his oldest had a recital that the youngest didn’t want to go to. He asked me to take the youngest shopping so I did. But the whole entire way she complained about the cars on the rode, the traffic and more all in a nine minute drive. In the store she took what seemed like hours to find a few things and had a fit at the limit her father gave her. When we got back to their place I had to stop her from setting the house on fire. What bothered me too was that she wanted what I was snacking on. I’m happy to share but she didn’t wash her hands until I mentioned it, and then proceed to fish the salsa out with her hands and crunched her chop into the salsa bowl. I asked that she used a plate to avoid getting her backwash in the dish. I immediately stopped snacking and was grossed out. I’m not sure how to bring this up to him without he I’m getting upset, I just don’t want to be alone with her anymore. I’m not sure what I should tell him?

Me and my ex were in a very tough place in our relationship for some time. After months and months of trying I finally decided it was time to end things. She was taking it extremely hard and she would go back and forth from sending me love notes to full out arguing, to crying.
One night she decided to go to her friends house to drink. The child was sleeping and I was asleep on the couch. After about 5-6 hours she comes back and all hell breaks loose. She comes in drunk and turns on al the lights in an attempt to wake me up and continues to try to get a response out of me. I grew tired of it and locked myself in our bedroom. She starts slamming into the door to try to get in, screaming and waking our child up in the process. She grabs our child and comes back to slamming into the door, announcing that she has our child now and I HAVE to open up. I pull up the camera on my phone to try to get a video or picture of her doing this when I open the door but fail. She sees the phone and immediately reaches for it. In turn I grab our child from her arms and start heading for the door knowing she is drunk and being aggressive I didnt see any good coming of this. Family lives down the street and I planned on just crashing there for the night. As I start heading for the door, She starts clawing at me trying to get the child. She completely tears my shirt from my body, and continues clawing and I do my best to create distance.... I have scratches and cuts on my face, back, arms, chest, neck and armpits. I get away.. call the police and they arrest her that night.
The next day I get served a PFA saying I threw her to the floor and refused to give her our child. Now Im homeless, cant speak or see my child or the mother until the hearing. The mother also filed for emergency custody.
She is spreading rumors about me abusing her to my job and the surrounding neighbors.. Im getting hit with court date after court date. And Im feeling hopeless... Has anyone even beaten a PO when the mother lied on it?

Hey guys my bad for not paying attention every day this past year (I admit I mute drumcorps during the off-season). But WTH is the deal with DCI skipping the Pacific Northwest this year? No shows in Oregon, Washington, Idaho. I’ve attended my local Portland / Vancouver show every year for the past 7 years and this year the nearest show is Bakersfield and Salt Lake City?? What did I miss? What’s the skinny?

I am officially 1 week free from Tianeptine. If you’ve seen my other posts, I was using around 10 grams a day for 5 months (but I’ve been off and on it for the past 3 years). I’m so grateful to be out of the worst of it. Today, I deep cleaned my house and actually feel pretty decent. It’s almost like I’m alive again. There’s anxiety, of course, and sleep is a bitch, but I’m managing. I still have gabapentin, clonidine and some Valium, but I’m trying to taper that. I’m supposed to start an out patient program on Monday, but I’m a little weary because it’s a complete abstinence program and I do drink an occasional glass of wine to unwind. I think I can it out though. Anyway, for those of you still in the early stages or debating to quit just know that it is possible. I feel like I can live my life again. I’ve also lost about 12 pounds, which is a plus and my face looks so much less puffy. Thank you to everyone who offered words of encouragement. I really appreciate it.

My cat is 2 years old, up to date on all vaccinations.
He got out of the house for a couple hours by pushing the window screen down, and since he's come back in, he's seemed tired. All day. He's just slept in the same spot. He's usually not a fan of pets or anything, and he's just been letting us pet him and seems to enjoy it. (Very unlike him) We recently noticed the skin around his eyes (eyelids?) are kinda red and look kinda irritated. Other than these things, he's fine. Should I be concerned? Maybe he has allergies??

this is my first reddit post ever, so i’m gonna do my best providing all the details. so it’s started a little over a month ago, during prom night. our prom group was me, my best friend of 10 years, and her two other friends. prom was a nightmare trying to plan and me and my best friend got into alittle bit of an argument while planning it but nothing big. and we planned to go to a house party after prom, and i was gonna be dd (designated driver) because my friend and her other friend wanted to drink. one of the girls in the group wasn’t getting a ride home from me so i was in charge of getting two girls home, one of which being my friend. all three of us were supposed to have a sleep over after wards so it wasn’t a big deal for me to be dd. the party was supposed to end at 2am and we all agreed that we would leave by then. well around 2 am, everyone starts leaving and i began to get bored and hungry. but the two girls are still having the time of their life and they ask me if i’m ready to go, and i tell them “yes i am but if y’all are having fun, we can stay a little longer”. another 30 minutes go by and i’m trying to get them to start getting ready to go. and they refuse to leave. and at this point they are wasteddd and i don’t know what to do. so i just wait. FOR HOURS. finally i’m so hungry that i go ahead and leave to go get food, and i tell them that i will be right back, im gonna go get food. right when i get into the drive thru line, they start blowing up my phone saying they are now ready to leave and getting mad at me for leaving them. so i head back and pick them up and IMMEDIATELY they refuse to talk to me and are acting incredibly bitchy. but i ignore it and just keep talking to them in the car (bc it is a 30 minute drive) and it is now 4 in the morning. they start complaining about being hungry so i give them my food and ask them to please not make a mess, which apparently didn’t matter bc they got it all over my seats. so i was just upset and wanted to go to my own home and when i dropped them off i told my best friend that i wasn’t feeling up to a sleep over and just wanted to go home. she then got sooo mad at me and couldn’t believe i was “ditching her”. her mom was awake when we got there and she kept asking me if i was okay. eventually i got home which was another 30 minute drive. i was upset bc i felt like my time wasn’t valued and i felt disrespected. but later the next day, my friends mom texts me and asks me how i’m doing and says i looked upset the night before. and all i told her was that i felt like i was put into a shitty situation. later on, my friend texts me asking how i was put into a shitty situation and i told her exactly how i felt. she then proceeded to go off on me about how immature and selfish i was. saying things like i should be grateful she even let me come to the party and saying i should have just left. i didn’t understand this because SHE WAS WASTED. i made sure she got home safe. she said i was trying drag down her fun but the whole time i was waiting on her, i was in another room or outside. not once did i try to ruin her night, when she was ruining mine. so we fought a little back and forth and did not speak to each other for over a month. but in this time she had her graduation and her grad party. i felt like i was missing a big milestone for her and really did miss her a lot. i had multiple nightmares about her in this time and would have panic attacks. she was my best friend for 10 years and was once my step sister as well (not anymore). so last night, i texted her basically saying i wanted to get past this and that i loved her. i said she can take all the time she needs but that i wanted to talk this out and move past it. i thought i was being the bigger person but noooo, she took it very poorly. she said i should apologize after everything shes done for me. she said i gave up our friend ship and that i was immature and selfish. but i honestly don’t understand why i should apologize, im the one trying to salvage this relationship, not ruin it. i wanted to understand her perspective because i truly don’t understand why i could be in the wrong. but maybe i am? am i the asshole? whether i am or not, i’m not gonna continue to fight for a friendship that is clearly not wanted.

The State of Time is a relatively small and surrealist/sci-fi world building project that I started working on earlier this year. I aim for the project to take the form of a vaguely house of leaves styled "complete guide" to the State of Time, a fantastical, somewhat eerie and arguably disturbing albeit ultimately good-natured utopian society of humans who reside on Xanthys, a massive space station that orbits Earth at all points in time simultaneously.
Xanthys is chock full of ridiculously advanced technology and I'd like to share a few aspects of it.

The people of Xanthys posses knowledge and technology that enables them to easily transfer 100% of a human consciousness into another body, computer or hard-drive. This, combined with their mastery of cloning and genetic engineering allows the people of Xanthys to not be restricted to their birth bodies. Instead, the average "Xanthysian" actually possesses a multitude of bodies that they can swap their consciousness between at any time via a process that takes less than 1 minute.
Essentially, if a Xanthysian is dissatisfied with their birth body for any reason. They can commission a genetic engineer to make them a new and practically flawless body in full accordance to the clients wildest desires. If a Xanthysian wishes for any of their new bodies to be based on persons with inaccessible genetic codes or fictional characters who are either realistically or unrealistically designed. Advanced computers can analyze pictures of the aforementioned subjects and access a genetic archive of the human species to come up with an assortment of genetic codes that fit the clients desired body. When not in use, the bodies are stored in stacked hypersleep pods that are in turn, stored in a closet-like chamber within peoples homes.
Furthermore, if a Xanthysian desires a body that is non-human, vaguely-human, anthropomorphic, or thoroughly alien. The aforementioned computers can access a greater genetic archive of all life that has existed on Earth, once more, using advanced algorithms to create fully functioning genetic codes for what could very well be a completely new organism.
If one of a Xanthysians bodies require medical attention, they can simply transfer their consciousness into another body while the injured body undergoes surgery and If they do not have another body, their consciousness can be temporarily stored in a computer with this process effectively replacing anesthesia.
Xanthysians are both biologically and psychologically immortal. Although their minds are still subject to time and may degrade with age, mental ailments amongst Xanthysians are easily rectifiable, once again by uploading a persons consciousness into a computer and translating it into code which can be altered. Xanthysians can live indefinitely but none of them have made it to 1,000 years as they tend to grow bored with living after a few to several centuries and may choose to simply delete their consciousnesses from existence.
Xanthysians can record their dreams, edit them, replay them and share them. Their equivalent to video games involves uploading their minds into personalized, shared or multiplayer simulations that are so flawlessly designed, that they are nearly indistinguishable from a reality. Some Xanthysians may choose to spend significant periods of time in simulated realities and they can communicate with people in reality from simulated realities.
The State of Time is an anarchist or near-anarchist society. As a result, it has no concept of poverty or crime and because the SoT is extremely permissive, there is little to no incentive for prisons. However, in the extraordinarily rare event that a member of the society must be forcibly isolated or reformed, this is achieved via something called a "Mind Prison" in which an offending persons mind is trapped within a hyper-adaptive simulation designed to reform them.

Because Xanthysians can change bodies like they change clothes. I'm currently not sure how they'd be able to identify each other so I'll need some ideas for that.

The Autumn winds blew in from the north sending a chill down Galry's spine as he strode towards the river. After sitting vigil all evening at the feet of the Warrior, stretching his limbs was a welcome release.
Years of working for Ser Arys had lead to this moment. He had saved money and scrounged used armour. Galry fixed what he could, paid blacksmiths to repair what he could not. It took him years but he now had his own set of armour. It had been a fortnight ago that Ser Arys presented him with a Longsword of his own and told him it was time for him to take his vows.
Galry kneeled by the banks of the Tumblestone. The cloying scent of the holy oils, imparted by the septon, mixed with the leafy smell of the algae from the river. The ceremony progressed, with the call and response, the placing of Ser Arys blade on his shoulders, and finaly Ser Arys announced Galry as a knight. "Ser Galry of Tumblestone", the words echoed across the river and it rumbled without change, showing no recognition that its name had been stolen.
Galry was not born in a castle, or even a hold fast. He had been born to a seamstress from a town he never knew the name of. His mother always claimed that he was the baseboard child of some landed knight, but Galry had never found anyone who knew the name of the knight or had even heard of his house. That hadn't stopped Galry from becoming squire to Ser Arys, nearly 15 years previous, in hopes of finding his father on the road. What he had found instead was a love for tourney and adventure.
Ser Galry of Tumblestone is a 23 year old knight from the Riverlands. Bastard born he has been squire to Ser Arys since he was 8. I’ve got a few hair and beard mods installed and went into creation kit to edit him to my liking, but after I save my changes and load the game he still looks like this. Any advice? The changes loaded once, and then I went back into CK to remove a moustache from Brand-Shei, and Bryn is back rocking the look of my ex-boyfriend’s dad.

-Degree in music (some of you already know where this is going).
-Working in an unrelated field (shipping) and have been with the company for 7 years. I hate the job. I don't care for finding meaning or purpose in my work but holy shit I don't want to beat my body up for a living. My coworkers in their 40s and 50s have multiple joints replaced over the course of their time at this job and I don't want that to be me. Unfortunately for me I am a workaholic and I'm okay with that so I'm working 60+ hours a week with a solid amount of overtime, which leaves little in the way for other things (going back to school, minimal hobbies, etc.)
-I'm 29. A lot of my friends have gotten married, bought houses, are planning their families, and moving on to better things. Please don't give me the whole "stop comparing yourself" line because you absolutely should be comparing yourself to your peers. I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that you should be individualistic in your approach to your professional life. You need to be comparing yourself to your communal circles. And in my doing so I have found some new maniacal urge to make as much money as they do and to stop doing my current job.
-Why do I like music as much as I do? Turns out I have a knack for being in front facing public roles. I like being in charge of a moment that a lot of people experience. I get it from my parents. Both of them are pastors and I frequently saw them preach growing up so it's in me somewhere because monkey see monkey do. Back in college I chewed around music therapy for a while but decided against it because it would've required more schooling as my school didn't have a music therapy program. In high school my best classes, academically and intellectually, were my health science classes. I fucking loved those classes everyday. But that was high school. How much carryover it has for an old man like me? No idea.
-My current job did give me a 401K which gave me a love for financial markets. I see my music training kick in hard when I look at annual reports for publicly traded companies. Would I like to move into a finance role? Ideally yes but I don't know how to go back to school for that seeing as how I work as much as I do (it's an hourly role so working less financially hurts me).
I'm so fucking angry that my life is nowhere near what I wanted it to be when I was 21. I'm fine with being angry. What I'm not fine with is feeling like an embarrassment in my friend group because I'm almost 30 doing nothing worthwhile whereas others in my friend groups have created stable lives for themselves. And yes I know that I do sometimes get rosy pictures of their lives. But also consider this: I want some of their problems too. I'm not naive. You have to pick and choose your problems. I want some of their problems. I'm okay with some headaches. I'm not okay with my current headaches. I don't know what to do and how to begin changing into a path that allows for me to have a better life/a life that isn't a fucking joke.
